Thread: Ikaruga [DC, GC, XBLA, PC]

  1. I was aware of the DOT EATER rank yesterday, actually.
Interesting that Treasure intentionally crafted the stages
such that one can clear them just by...eating dots! There's
a web site which sketches a method for completing each
chapter with a DOT EATER ranking, which you can find here:

    http://www.geocities.co.jp/Playtown-...7/ikaruga.html

But there is a problem for dot eaters in Chapter 2. Look 1
minute and 5 seconds into SRS's Stage 2 superplay. There
is a row of five blocks that appear to touch one other.
One web site reports that you can move through the sides of
any two adjacent blocks and live. Check out the last
    comment in this web site:

I would like to see footage of that!

Now I would like to add my second bit to the chain of weird
    things to do in Ikaruga.

Meet VTF-INO. A few of you may know him for his 0-point
Giga Wing 2 replays and his sword-play footage in Radiant
Silvergun's Stage 3. At one time, he has been playing
two-player games of Ikaruga by himself--a double-player he
is. Details are at his web site:

    http://www.hidecnet.ne.jp/~vtf/IKARUGA.html

So, how are you going to play Ikaruga?

  2. Cripes, www.gamefront.de seems to have a Ikaruga news bit each day . Today's from what I can make out is Ikaruga is in the top ten most wanted or preordered titles at Amazon Japan. Gonna have to learn German methinks. *-neo

  3. The entire point of the post was to add a reality check to the hype around Ikaruga...
Well, it isn't quite as good as Radiant Silvergun, but it's still a tremendous shooter. I don't think anyone on this forum will be disappointed, that's for sure. Not as flashy as RS, but I know a lot of pure reaction shooter fans are going to love it more.

  4. From the way you hear some people talk, you'd swear they want it to play like Radiant Silvergun. We don't really need another Radiant. The game still holds up. Why try to out-Radiant Radiant when you can just have something comepletely new. Also, what I've seen of Ikaruga, it doesn't really look that shallow. I can see alot of time devoted to finding was to extend combos and such. Sure it's not as flexible as radiant, but that's not the same as depth anyway. Depth is in the subtlety, and I won't judge Ikaruga's depth until I spend some serious time with it.

  5. Let's put it this way, I own Radiant Silvergun and while it's an incredible shooter, I find ESP RaDe (which could be argued as a much more simple shooter) to be more fun and gets way more play time. I prefer the simple weapons and enemy layouts (RS has incredible bosses and tons of them, but I don't like the regular enemy patterns as much), and have a feeling I'm going to like that as well about Ikaruga. Chances are, I'll consider Ikaruga to be a much better, more fun, and more interesting shooter then RS is, but I'll have to actually play it before I say that for sure.

Oh, and I also found that I can turn my TV sideways, although there doesn't seem to be vents on the top (or bottom, obviously), just the sides, so I'm not sure how it'll handle heat. It'll also be a bit tilted upwards, but I'll find some way to deal (like maybe a stool).

I have a 27" Vega... besides being a bit heavy, it's got an odd back, so I don't think there's any practical way of tilting that bad boy. Too bad, too.
HA! HA! I AM USING THE INTERNET!!1

  7. Well, mine's a 32", hence my hesitation in flipping it. It certainly seems like it'll do fine, but I'll know for sure once Ikaruga comes out.

  8. In the case of ginormous TV sets, getting a dedicated smaller flipping set or monitor is probably the way to go. And a good investment all around, too.

I'm starting to sound like a broken record, here.

  9. Heh

I think I have posted about that a time or two also. =)

Totaly worth the money to not have to flip a cumbersome TV.

    JM

  10. Oh, I've got a monitor I can flip (19"), and another dedicated monitor that's permenantly flipped (20"), but I really want to see Ikaruga on a 32" screen.

Actually, I'd love to see it on a high-definition 40", but that's just wishful thinking.
