Depends on what you think of special, Metal. It's still another quality game in the DC library...which is now the king of shield-based shooters with this, Mars Matrix, and the Gigawings .

Well, of couse it's still SPECIAL... but no longer, you know, special as in 'this DC port is probably the only way you'll ever be able to play Ikaurga.' See what I mean?

  4. on the bright side, ikaruga will get the exposure it deserves and it'll be fun teasing GC fanboys by comparing the two versions and highlighting the DC version's benefits..

unless the GC version has extras the way RS had extras over the arcade version, i won't get too excited about it..

and a training mode??!! pff.. i can see it now:
    IKARUGA: EO

my DC preorder stands.. i simply can't wait..
    countdown: roughly 16 days
MK2 on XBLA plz - let the unfolding of gameplay begin!!

I was really into getting a copy of Ikaruga at one point, but then, it was announced for the DC, and lost that 'only for arcade' quality, you know?

  6. LOL..
let's just say that the DC version makes it possible for more than 4 people on the face of the earth to play the game..

I'd hold off on 'teasing fanboys' until both fully come out. Bastard.

Ain't it the truth. Now people know they'll be able to get it they don't want it as much anymore. "Oh yeah now its coming to GC I'll wait another year or two for the US version"

Its that absurb rare game/collector mentality.

I'm still as excited about Ikaruga as I ever was. More so even now that its nearly out.
3DO Serial No. 033693019 "Serial number brothers!!!......" *high five*

  9. Hmm if anyone read Xengamer's update on the game, they point out that the IGN Cube story is just a rumor, and the American Infogrames PR Rep hadn't heard of the game yet. Dunno what to think, but can't go wrong by keeping my DC pre-order.

First review of DC Ikaruga couresty of Dorimaga magazine: 9,8,9

They also have scores for Sega GT 2002 and GC PSO (very nice).

Famsitu also mentioned Gamecube Ikaruga in Januray 2003. *-neo

  11. Ahh The excitement is building!!!

Now, thanks to my good friend PaCrappa, I will be recieving a Modded DC along with my Ikaruga! No Damn Dirty boot discs for me!!! I was the first to reserve a copy from him & I can't wait!!!! My monitor is drooling in anticipation.

What?! Not straight 10s? I'm cancelling my DC preorder and reserving the GC one! I'm sure that version will be the RS-killer!

  13. syoo of DOA Online brought this to my attention:

    http://www.treasure-inc.co.jp/bbs/bbs.html

Hiroshi Iuchi explains the screen modes in the Dreamcast
version of Ikaruga. The original message is numbered 10137
in the BBS; I'll provide a machine translation.

    -----
About the vertical screen mode of "Ikaruga", since there
were those how many inquiries, I
    supplementary-explanation-do.

Although it has written to specification explanation that
there are two vertical screen modes, the 1st is [ "mode
which makes monitor length and plays it" 2 ? ] the 2 modes
of "a monitor rotates only cross key operation 90 in all
degrees on a screen with width."

It seems that most liquid crystal display monitors of why
or marketing have clockwise many things in which 90-degree
rotation is possible although there is much direction to
which it considers tying to a liquid crystal display
monitor using a VGA box, and comes. In this case, since it
becomes a vertical contrary even if it makes it vertical
screen mode, those who consider purchase need to take great
care and need to consider purchase. (Although it rotates as
mentioned above in inside, seemingly, there are some which
have a flip function in a monitor side)

but since it is not cheap shopping, a game play is carried
out in horizontal screen mode at once -- having -- "screen
    -- being small ... since it becomes " -- ?? -- since it
thinks that it is not late to consider purchase, please
inquire (Horizontal screen mode may actually be a little
hot on 14 type (less than [ it ] is included) television.)
I think whether since there is also individual difference,
    it is necessary to hurry.

and gentlemen Relations should talk. I am sad when Ikaruga
is looking at arguing owing to....
    -----

    This is what I gather.

On most televisions, rotated controls are needed if one
wants to play Ikaruga on TATE mode properly. But on certain
liquid crystal display (LCD) monitors, there is a flip
switch, so one could control the game properly with
un-rotated controls. Also, Iuchi warns that some LCD
monitors rotate the wrong way, so the screen would be
upside-down, so people planning on buying a new LCD monitor
    should note this.

Because it's expensive to shop for any new television,
those who want the vertical experience on an un-rotatable
monitor (I'm guessing giant ones and poorly-ventilated
ones) can play Ikaruga as if it's a horizontally-oriented
shooting game. This was included because some would
complain that the original horizontal mode with bars on the
side would be too small to see anything.

If I'm wrong on anything, please let me know.

  14. OK, but it'll still have proper controls in TATE mode, right (IE: no crappy reversed controls like in U.S. Raiden Project)? He's just saying they added an extra control option for the high end/LCD display users?

Yes, it'll still have the proper controls.

  16. Yep, guys i did order two copies. And admittedly selling at least one somewhere down the road is in the back of my mind. Thanks to all the information along the way, and to this forum and people for providing a source that is what the true gamer looks for......

  17. Thanks for all the info, Bernard.

  18. So only 13 more days now, does any one know what the cover looks like... I found this one on Himeya.

  19. A few bits of mangled info. Gamefront has a news bit regarding Ikaruga on PS2. From what I can make out it's a quote from Treasure saying the game would be too hard to reprogram to PS2. There's also something about the Radiant Silvergun ship mentioned, but I've no clue what it says.

Are you talking about this piece of news from gamefront.de:

    ---
    MULTI

will man überlegen, ob eine solche Neuauflage Sinn macht.
    ---

Machine translation leads me to believe that there are no
plans to port Radiant Silvergun onto other consoles. Megawa
is aware, however, of the concern from Treasure fanatics.
As soon as Treasure's current projects are completed, the
company would consider such a port.

I'll consult with a native German to verify.

  21. i don't think it'll happen.. where would they port it to?

    *edit*
and BTW, ikaruga was officially announced by Treasure for the GC today.. it'll be released under infogrames' Atari label in january..

i'm sad but happy at the same time.
MK2 on XBLA plz - let the unfolding of gameplay begin!!

  22. From Magic Box:

    - Treasure mentioned there won't be a PlayStation 2 port of Ikaruga, due to a big difference between the Naomi and PS2 hardware, many of the special effects would have to be reprogrammed.

This makes me laugh after all the people on some of the other message boards who said Ikaruga "...has to be be done on the PS2 since it has more power." (way back when everyone was praying it'd get a home port on ANY system) Not denying the PS2 has a little extra hardware juice, but you get my point. Looks like a lot of PS2 zealots (people who slam the DC and worship Sony) are gonna have to buy either a DC/boot disc/import DC or a GC. Heh heh.

they'll do that..... or they could just ignore shooters and other good games completely like they did when they all bought a PS2 back in 2000..
not that it's any of my concern..

This thread is bloated enough, can you two post your petty system-war bullshit somewhere else please?

And yes Werewolf, that cover is the proper Ika DC one.

  26. i would like to know who has read through all 70 pages of this thread.

  27. Shinobi128: Well, I've kept up with it the whole time, so I have. But I haven't read through in one go, if that's what you mean.

  28. I think I've read it all, as it came up - not all in one shot if that's what you were wondering.

It's hard to believe my post started all this talk

I also propose that we appoint someone to maintain the Ikaruga high score thread once the game arrives. We need someone to update the thread on at least a daily basis, and I don't want some yahoo starting a high score thread and never returning just for the sake of being the first to start the thread.

Finally, I propose that this thread be ceremoniously closed some time after Sept. 5.

That was always my intention...however the high score thread I think will need to be firmly held to score related/strategy discussion and score posting.

    Agreed.

Perhaps the creation of an "Ikaruga impressions" thread is in order, reserved specifically for thoughts on the game and other non-strategy or score-related posts? Although I suppose that would simply spawn another mammoth thread I'd rather not see.

Umm why? A impressions thread would probably have 300-400 messages, part of the reason this thread got so big was a massive amount of speculation in the first months.

And closing the Ikaruga thread is definitely a good idea as it has become a bit cumbersome to navigate. *-neo

  37. I think Mode7 should maintain the Ikaruga high score thread... That's his kinda thing and he makes them look so purty, too!

Closing this thread probably would be a good idea, sleeve. But another one is sure to pop up and grow to the size of... well, something quite large... when people start posting impressions and whatnot.

    Yea...

  38. [

    According to Famistu:

    Ikaruga Dreamcast: 8/10/10/8 (36/40)

    *-neo

  39. 36/40 ain't bad.

If I could, I would print this thread in its entirety. Never before have I witnessed such a rollercoaster ride in anticipation for a game. Unlike other "game tales" of this ilk, this one has a HAPPY ending- plus we may well get a domestic release (GCN) to boot.

I want to read this thread years from now- and cherish the memories...
