I want a Gunstar Headdy/Dynamite Heroes next!
I have it, guys. It's... amazing. Since most of you reading this thread will be getting it, I don't want to spill too many details. I don't want to spoil it. It's not Radiant Silvergun, but Radiant Silvergun ain't Ikaruga either, if you can absorb that strange bit of logic. Great, great opus for DC. *Weeps with joy*

We've already spread to two. It's only a matter of time before we get a good reason for one to be in the Sound Off! board and stay there.It\'s almost like this game needs its own board.
I was talking to a gent from one of the web order import stores. He said Ikaruga's PREORDERS surpassed their best selling imports ever by SEVEN TIMES over. So I can only imagine what VGD and NCS are dealing with O_o .Originally posted by Mr_Furious
bbobb,
Can you divulge the number of pre-orders VGD has received? I'm just curious how heavy a demand Ikaruga actually is. It's getting a lot of attention on various message boards so I'd like to gauge.
Impressive, and through this all I still wonder if Treasure planned a DC port or they caved to the fans (props to Johnk's petition). In ethier case I think things turned out damn good.

Awwwwww fuck, are you serious? Dammit! JapanVideoGames is like an hour and a half away! why didn't I preorder with them? WHYYYYYYYY?
*goes off to bash his head into the wall until its time to go to College tomorrow at 7:30*
In other news, this morning, there were 0 Ikarugas on eBay, now theres 6.
Ok, so with all this preorder madness, anyone have any idea on the initial production run? 100,000?
Actually, it's about ten. And when we wake up tomorrow morning, it will be to the God of Videogames laughing at us.Ok, so with all this preorder madness, anyone have any idea on the initial production run? 100,000?
I knew i should have stuck with the 20,000 i put in originally![]()
Anyone looking for impressions may want to tread GameFAQ waters. Seems honest enough. (Though, sadly, the theory proves itself once again). Oh hey, if you look through the topics here, you can find someone calling himself "ECM" that states tate is derived from rotate.
As far as the sales go, one thing that I'm looking forward to as the result of all this "madness" is to see what actual impact the import market has on Japanese sales, if any.
Meanwhile, a new shooter is coming. I better be in the Top 10 scores, and you all better make me suffer to get there.
Its like Christmas right now, the only problem is that Santa haven't given all the children their gifts yet, oh and I'm gonna put all my efforts in the Ikaruga highscore thread too, top 3 is my goal, make it second place behind Mode 7 :jest:
I have even got a tv just for Tate mode.
Btw soundtrack, are they planing one? When does these things usually show up?
By this time next week, everyone on this board will be talking and playing Ikaruga.
By this time next year, Ikaruga will be one of the most poo-pooed games here- right next to Sunshine, FF8, EA, Square, Treasure in general, and Sega.
*sigh*
But you know what really sucks the big one? Trying to find time to play Ikaruga (gotta get on that score board, you know) at college...
@#$%$ $#% @#$.
w00t! I just got an e-mail from VGD saying my order has been shipped! w00h00! Friday cannot come soon enough!
Playing games in college? Just don't sleep. That's what I did. My roomate did not appreciate it, but...
People will think you're weird if they see you playing Ikaruga.
"ewww, that game is so dumb. I only play GTA3"
No shipment confirmation from NCSX yet, but hopefully I will have one by then end of today.
With any luck, I'll be joining the rest of you and be playing Ikaruga on 9/9/02 - a fitting close to three years with the greatest console ever, my little Sega Dreamcast

Seriously, you're right. It does seem kinda cool to be playing this at the 3 year mark. Too bad my 9/9/99 DC is broken![]()
I'm not so jaded yet. I think Ikaruga is pretty relatable. Pretty graphics go a long way. I honestly think Ikaruga could even be commercially viable if it comes out here on GC. Maybe I'm just naive.Originally posted by Zerodash People will think you're weird if they see you playing Ikaruga.

In the mean time, waiting... waiting..
I'm expecting my DC RGB rig AND Ikaruga on the same day... Double yippee!

Well, the spine looks pretty nice.
And the artwork isn't so faded.
I won't talk about gameplay either, as the arcade version has been reviewed quite a bit.
This game MUST be played in VGA (and of course in vertical mode). Of all the games that run in VGA mode, it's only rivaled by Guilty Gear X.
The detail in VGA is ridiculous- the backrounds are as detailed, if not more, than Radiant Silvergun's. The explosions, lighting, and particle effects are amazing- and look so much better than in the videos. The large enemies and bosses are extremely detailed- there is no way you can see all of the detail with a/v or svideo.
All the menus are in english, but some of the dialog-explanation type boxes are not. Also you can choose between normal and trial mode, which I'm assuming is DC and arcade mode. Even though it has them written in japanese when you start the game, there is a voice that tells you in english which is which.
There is also an appendix option on the start screen, that has a bunch of ???? for unlockable stuff. It also keeps track of play time like RS.
Its fun.
And go get a VGA box, they are no more than $15 and you can get them at a lot of places.
If you have any questions go ahead and post them. I feel obligated to answer any, since I was fortunate enough to pick it up today.

And of course the backrounds in Ikaruga are realtime whereas RS are not.
What on earth are you talking about? There's no way RS isn't real time. FMV on the Saturn doesn't look anywhere near that clean. I'd bet anything that RS's backgrounds are real time polys.
Sorry I didnt clarify. I meant realtime as in realtime 3D polygons. I thought most of the levels in RS were 2D scrolling backrounds?
steam: Mrs Esterhouse
Last I checked, the backgrounds in RS are a mix.
The cityscape stage is made of polygons overlaid on a flat base.
The Moon boss background is clearly a rotating flat picture.
Many other portions are a mix of polygons and flat bitmaps
RS's backgrounds are infested with immense parallax scrolling, sprite rotation and sprite scaling, with some 3D from time to time. And yes it's all realtime!! (hence the slowdown)
It's saddening to see that there's already a pirate rom of DC Ikaruga for download on the interweb.
*sigh*
!
My copy just arrived and is ready for pick up. I'm tempted to go grab it, but I have quite a bit of work to do. Maybe I'll just finish my day, savoring the idea of playing the game at my leisure tonight. Hard to believe it's sitting there -- from rumor to reality. Pretty neat how things work out sometimes.

Listen to this man, he speaks the truth. Ikaruga+tate+VGA=bliss. The difference between standard tv and VGA is insane with this game. You'll never go back, you'd spit on your tv you would. It's games like these that makes me wish DC would have been pushed as far as it could go. I know the system must have plenty of other tricks up it's sleeve too.
Oh and it seems credits are time released so some of you will have to play it legit for awhile before you pansy out and give yourself continue world.![]()

as far as i know, the quality of the vga adapter actually doesn\'t have much of an effect on the image. more expensive adapters usually add features, like a monitor pass-through.Originally posted by J2dfanboy
