I'm now getting disturbing visions of people mispronouncing Hagane as "Ha-gain" and Shinobi as "Shy-naw-bee."
God damn.

There are too many EE-ka-ROO-ga threads.![]()
i dont know why the Radiant vs. Silvergun thread was closed... honesly, the thread was going in the wrong direction but i was gonna psot this there...given the proper amount of time and right posts it would have gone places...anyhew..i spent the last hour getting "intimate" with Ika...
simply stated. ikaruga is the "less is more" philosphy, pefected.
2 buttons, a trigger and a joystick....red & blue....dance with the bullets, not against them. amazing.
where RS failed, Ikaruga succeeds.
:Brief Review
The RS vs. Ikaruga threads were closed because they cluttered the boards and were pretty useless for now (most folks here are still waiting for their copy of Ikaruga). We don't need a dozen threads covering all the aspects of a game; that's what the official thread is for.

At the same time it gives me this strange sensation of complexity, despite its simplicity. At times I almost feel like I'm playing two shooters at once, overlayed on each other.Originally posted by MrKasualUltra2000

So far I'm really sucking at it, but I'm loving it. I haven't gotten this enthused over a game in a long time. For four hours I played, which is alot considering I really couldn't afford the time.
Just about my only complaint is your combo count being displayed down on the vmu. Too hard to look down there. Which is nothing more than a nitpick.
Am I right that there's only one kind of chain? From the looks of the chain meter, it seems it.
I play Ikaruga on the gxtv in my room (since I don't have vga or a commodore monitor) and on the widescreen tv in the living room. On the latter I play it like a horizontal shooter, and I think I like it more that way. Maybe its just the bigger screen, but I seem to do better with it.

the chains are kinda tricky, im trying to figue them out as well...i hit a 32. thats me highest.

The impressions thread was informative, helpful, and relevant. Two threads about comparing the two games is pointless, because like I said a few posts above, not many people have the game yet and those that do have played it for two days, so it's a bit early to say which is better, yes? I was getting many complaints from others about too many Ikaruga threads and was asked to lock or delete them.
Christ almighty, folks.
i forgive the middle finger.
my sarcastic personalty doesnt come across well on message boards.
I apologize if my pic pissed you off, it was inspired by dog$'s classic pic when someone accused him of not having played Guardian Heroes. I never use smilies cause I think they look retarded, but maybe I should just to underline the sarcasm.
Anyways...Ikaruga's a gem, isn't it?

Are they any different than the artwork on the DC Ikaruga disk/GD art rips?
Actually it's more like "ee-KAH-roo-gah" but the japanese don't quite stress sylables in the same way, but it's an approximation.Originally posted by Technosphile
Hey:
Well, after picking up my copy last night and speaking with people at length about it, I have come to a conclusion: everyone says "Ikaruga" differently. For example:
*ICK-ah-ROO-ga. This is the most common way I have heard it said.
*I-ka-ROO-ga. This is how I was saying it at first.
*EE-ka-ROO-ga. The general consensus is that this is how it would be said in Japan, so I have been saying it like this since last night.
Which is "correct"? How do you say it?
-Technosphile
frog's right.. i'm pretty sure the KAH is the stressed syllable..
MK2 on XBLA plz - let the unfolding of gameplay begin!!
Ikaruga is definitely pronounced i-KAH-roo-guh.
Well... I finally got to chapter 4 last night, and I hate it. In other news, today I'm going out to get a VGA Box, so I can finally rejoice in the sharp tate goodness... 88mph Spoiled me last night
when you do a bomb, does it do more damage to opposite colored enemies? I can't tell. Mostly because it tends to wipe out all the pions no matter what, but I'm mostly wondering on the bosses.
Yes...
Try doing it in black mode on Stage 1 Boss' first form.
You'll see what I mean.![]()
you do double damage to enemies/parts of enemies of opposite color. helps alot on the stage 2 boss.
I've never been a tate fanatic, despite my love of shooters. Well, after playing the clipped, lame-assed, letterboxed original mode, I'm on a high-priority mission to get a new VGA box and a flippable monitor. Enough is enough.Originally posted by Chux

"Fiends! Animals! Bastards!"
Last night I had Ikaruga dreams. I woke up in the middle of the night and my brain could not stop switching colours and dodging/sucking up bullets.
Ikaruga kicks arse!![]()
The chains work by defeating three enemies of the same color. During the demo of the game, the ship would destroy all white ships on the screen before blasting the black ones (and vice versa). Either that or shoot three ships of one color, switch to another color, and repeat. Right now, I'm more concerned of surviving the actual stage instead of going for combos, but I'm sure that'll change once I get better.Originally posted by MrKasualUltra2000

And to mirror what others have been saying, Ikaruga will be the main reason I purchase a DC VGA box.

I haven't recieved my copy yet (expect it on Monday or Tuesday) but I'm a more than a little curious about the control setup. Specifically, I'd like to know what the default is and what options they give you for customization. I'm hoping the standard shot is executed with the trigger on the standard pad, otherwise I might have to break out the ascii ft pads (have arcade sticks but never even tried shooters with them- I mostly play fighters in the arcade so thats the only reason I bought them to use at home). Any info is appreciated.
Control is fully customizable. You won't want to use the trigger for shot, though.
