Yeah, I didn't notice any seams (and if there were any, at least it wasn't as bad as Silent Hill 2, where entire floors and enemies would light up in the darkness thanks to all the breaking), and it's much easier to see the text and insignias on the bosses. Not to mention all the other small graphical touches and the chain text on-screen.
Unlike MGS, which looks absolutely hideous in high-res but is gorgeous in low-res. God, I still get nightmares about watching the opening to that game at 800x600 through an emulator... *shudder*

Now that Mario is finally behind me I can turn my attention fully to Ikaruga. I was playing a bit over the weekend and my non gamer/causual gamer friends saw me playing in TATE mode. They were curious as to why the monitor was on its side, and actually sat down to play a round or two. I'm happy to report they liked it and thought the black/white mechanic was a clever innovation. There's hope for games yet.

I am now permanently setup for VGA TATE gaming, as I procured my wife's old PC monitor from her parent's house for the duty.
Now today at work I find myself picturing all the PC monitors turned counterclockwise and wondering how they'd look with Ikaruga blasting away on them. Sad but true.

I honestly think Ikaruga is the best shooter I've ever played. If not, it's definitely way up there. Pretty much all of my complaints about RS were addressed, and all the things I liked about RS remain intact, and the new stuff is all welcome. Too good.
Easier to see low poly counts and jagged edges and stuff that you don't really notice on the TV. Not that it isn't still gorgeous. The texture work is downright scary.Originally posted by Tsubaki

Also, while I know that two-player shmupping usually isn't the best, I find Ikaruga's two-player to be quite fun. The color setup is probably the reason why, and it seems that you need more cooperation than the norm.

I got this game last Friday (thanks bbobb/VGD) and have been playing it all weekend. I must say that this is one of my favorite shooters of all time. The concept is totally original and involves so much strategy it's truly frightening. The sucker is difficult as all hell too. Shmup genius is Treasure!

As for Dot Eater, I once got that ranking while on level 3. I was dying continuously and eating up credits like mad, but on my second to last one I died and when I respawned I didn't fire any shots and the boss ran out of time. Gave me the ranking, mysteriously enough.
I think there's a bit more to Dot Eater then there seems.
It's looking like VGD is your best bet, though you also might want to check with Pacrappa and see if he has some copies.any suggestions which website i should give my money to?
