i wasn't aware there was already a gameshark for GC.
The online ranking will fall apart anyway, thanks to Gameshark.

MK2 on XBLA plz - let the unfolding of gameplay begin!!
this is unclear to me.. is only the US version cancelled, or both the US and jap versions?
MK2 on XBLA plz - let the unfolding of gameplay begin!!
Wading through a hundred pages....not a good idea.
I have two big questions. How likely is the GC port becoming? I know there are rumors that it'll be out in Japan but not here, That it may not even come out at all, etc. Where's the truth in this, or better yet, when is the GC Ikaruga supposed to come out?
Second question is - how good is Ikaruga, honestly? From a shooter fan to another, but from a shooter fan to one who's pretty strapped for cash and doesn't need to buy something he'll play a few times and then retire for 6 months.
Reason I ask is I know where I can get a DC copy right now, but I don't know if I should wait, or if I should even get it at all, DC or GC.
If you don't like shooters in the first place and your not the kind of person who goes for high scores, beating the game in one credit, and chaining, don't get the game. Because once you beat it (which will take under an hour) there isn't much else to do.
Otherwise, yes, this is one of the best shooters I have ever played with amazing boss battles and a great gameplay system. Get this game now!
Domestic only, apparently. The import is good to go for the 15th, I suppose.
Yes, Ikaruga is a good game. If you like replaying games to improve your skills, Iky is for you. It will eat your ass raw the first few times, but you'll find yourself gradually improving over a long period of time.
It's a shooter unlike any I have ever really seen or played, so if you're looking for something new, get it.
Plain English.
i would go for the dreamcast version, if only for the godly vga display. it's not clear if the cube port will support progressive scan.
Is this thread huge or what???![]()
If I can add my $0.02, I think that Ikaruga is well worth getting for anyone who loves a challenging game. For me, it's all about maxing out my chains.....aiming for higher scores each game. However, there's NO way I can go through Stage 2 w/o losing ships....I just can't. Challenging, for sure.![]()
It's all about the New York Islanders!!!
EGM suggests Ikaruga isn't coming out in the US, I expect the game will come here eventually (guessing summer or fall).
As far as ports go, the Gamecube version has a slow mode (game runs at 50% speed) and the internet ranking board. So if you don't plan to mod your Cube, you're really not missing out on much by picking up the DC rev.
As far as Ikaruga the game, I love it. Unlike Radiant Silvergun where you have to learn chaining to get anywhere, Ikaruga can be played as a pure blaster or a chain-a-thon. Beautiful graphics, a very fitting musical score, and great design and artwork. My only problem is it's length, but that's a minor fault. *-neo

Too long or short?Great games always have a habit of leaving us wanting more.
I tought i read somewhere.. that it was coming here in May...
You may have, but thats not exactly true anymore.
Its perfect lenght for me, I still tend to crack when I enter the final boss, But even when that happens I know that it just takes 20-25 minutes to get there again, if it had been like RS and say 40+ minutes I would have been really pissed.
Not to say that I don't want to kill someone when I one time had 3, yes 3 bloody seconds left of the last boss.
Valgar:
Where is your final score btw?
I'll go get it right now, been playing RS so much.
Fourth place here I come...![]()
If you don't already own Ikaruga, chances are it's not worth your time.Second question is - how good is Ikaruga, honestly? so far here's what i have:
all of chp.1
all of chp.2
kiken's chp.3 run, which goes up to about 40 seconds past the part where it actually says 'chp.3', so i'm missing the latter part.
(*side note: kiken's video was done in TATE mode, so it's sideways when you look at it on your PC, but i ran it through an editor to shift it 90 degrees around.)
kiken's chp.4 run, which goes just past the big satellite IIRC.
i also have some other dude doing the rest of chp.4 on an arcade cab.
and all of chp.5
the only part i'm really missing is the last half of chp.3

I don't mind the length myself. For MUSHA, BL, or TF4 (or more recently Zanac Neo), you've got to set aside an hour if you plan on beating them. It's nice to have some "Quick Fix" games like Ikaruga, Gekirindan, etc.Originally posted by neoalphazero

from gamefront.de (courtesy of babelfish):
Infogrames confirms Ikaruga for the USA 27.01.03 - Infogrames confirmed the publication of Ikaruga in the USA in a press release. The Shooter is to come in April on the market. Whether Ikaruga appears also in Europe, is not well-known yet.
right.. this was already announced and we've seen the kick-ass US cover art, which looks infinitely better than the japanese box art..

From GA, Atari press release.
Uhm there is nothing updated right, still some slowdown or have I missed something? Those already familiar with Ikaruga will appreciate vital game upgrades such as enhanced graphics
Thats just too quteStunning graphics and intense gameplay make for a powerful sensory experience and fans of Ikaruga will agree that this is the best space battle ever.![]()
Yea why doesn't anyone ever brag around here? The competition is to silent most times....and private passwords that lets high scorers post their accomplishments on the official Ikaruga Web site and establish bragging rights within the worldwide Ikaruga community!
i wasn't aware that the game was actually confirmed for a us release. it seemed to be informed speculation until now. oh, and yes, the us boxart is much better.Originally posted by johnk_

But seriously, some times I just wished that Ice would say "look you just suck, stop playing the game its just embarrassing when you drop by this thread", that would sure as hell motivate me. I only participate in two highscore threads at the moment and one of them has seen better days, but it doesn't seem like a competition most of the time.
But thats only one way to improve your score, another is of course to talk about strategies. Most threads seems to do well in that aspect.
But yeah, sometimes I would just like to picture that diamond from Ikaruga being Valgar and scream on the top of my lungs "die Valgar die, I'm the king of this thread, and remember this isn't FC, I will fucking remind you about my accomplishment, biatch!".
#Valgar was just an example, I don't see him as my rival![]()

ah, i just need to figure out what the hell's happening in chp. 4..
the start of chp.5 is an insane boost to your score, but i can never reach that far on 1 continue..
MK2 on XBLA plz - let the unfolding of gameplay begin!!
You chain that section with the rotating laser thing right? It makes things so much more simple, I used to just blast my way trought it and die atleast two times from suicide bullets. Can't maintain a decent chain trought chapter 4 though, I break it two times, first when I encounter the first boss and the section after that just plays tricks with me, how am I supposed to be able to chain all three rows of enemies?Originally posted by johnk_

yea i figured early on that blasting through that part wouldn't work because of suicide bullets, so i'm still working on chaining everything.. i'm getting better at it, but it's just too complicated with the enemies, the streams of bullets, and the bullets coming from the enemies added on top of all that..
is the reason you break your chain because of the boss iteself?? i wasn't aware that the parts of that boss counted towards your chain... in any case, i can't tell which parts are shooting white beams and which are shooting black..
as for the section after that, i'm pretty sure you can't get all 3 rows...
i just concentrate on the middle, and when i've got it backed far enough up, i move to the side a little to take out the extra enemies moving vertically
