Thread: Star Fox Adventures sells well in Japan.

  1. Star Fox Adventures sells well in Japan.

    http://www.gamesarefun.com/newspro/f...3607376,23912,

    from Gamesarefun.com

After only three days of availability, Nintendo and RARE's Star Fox Adventures for the Nintendo GameCube sold 135,700 units.
I'm surprised it did this well... I guess now Nintendo's probably feeling the pinch of letting Rare go. Ah well, Rare had nothing last year so it makes up for the long dev time...

    Also:

In fact, hardware sales numbers indicate that the Nintendo GameCube sold 13,000 units between September 23rd and September 29th, more than 50% more consoles than in an average week.
GC seems to have sold really well in September...

I read this on www.gamefront.de too, impressive given most of Rare's titles sold poorly in Japan. With luck this is the beginning of a upswing for Gamecube abroad and in the US. Prime and Zelda are definitely high points for the rest of the year. *-neo

  3. I'm wondering if this will have a trickle effect on the Xbox when Rare eventually releases Kameo on Xbox...

  4. ...this means that MS is probably gonna make Rare do a game for them that uses a very-similar engine to SFA.

  5. It will peak at 300K, hardly an amazing success.

I also think 6K per week for gc is low, the average seems to be more like 10-12K to me. Meh, no bother.

  6. Would it have sold as much over there if it had been released as just "Dinosaur Planet" with Rare's original characters? (whether on N64 or GC) I believe most of those Japanese gamers who picked up SFA probably bought it thinking of it as a Nintendo game, rather than a Rare game.
It seems that Nintendo forcing Rare to incorporate StarFox license did turn out to be a good idea, after all...

My sentiments exactly. StarFox sold this title, not the Adventures.

  8. Was Starfox always a big-name seller for Nintendo in Japan?

  9. Yea, Japanese gamers are blind and stupid, they couldn't possibly know what they were buying. They wandered in the store and the sales people took advantage of their super weak minds...

  10. WTF?
