Thanks! I had a good day. At least this year my birthday fell on a Saturday which means it wasn't tax day in the US. I volunteered to work half a day because I've missed some time recently and I also knew I would need off half of Monday. But then we only did a couple hours once we got there. Afterwards I went out to a late lunch with wifey, mom and sis. Mom-in-law made me a carrot cake with cream cheese icing, my favorite, and I'm eating as much of it as I can each day. No fizzies, but that's a personal problem that I've been able to keep under control for twenty-one years now. And no jumping. I hadn't really thought I would be able to jump this past weekend for health reasons. All in all it was still a good day. Almost forgot. No apologies necessary 'bean. I had forgotten yours too until I saw it on the main page list.

No wonder I forgot your birthday, it's the fault of the IRS! April 15th is a day that the American brain is programmed to ignore. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. Happy Birthday!

Thanks again everyone. I didn't report on my presents last time because I had to get off to work. But I did make a decent haul. I got some cash and a couple jump tickets, but my favorite gift is the wooden pen and pencil set from wifey. They're made from the remains of the trees that blew down in our front yard a couple years ago ( post and picture here) when hurricane Isabelle blew through. I had saved some of the wood intending to someday build a tricket box or such. Wifey got the idea to have the writing utensils made when she was given a wooden pen by a co-worker. He does nice work and our trees will now be remembered for a very long time.

No, I'm not a pen chewer. I quit that in fourth grade. I was mildly fascinated one day to find that I could stick a pen to the end of my tongue by sucking all the air out through the little hole in the back end. Unfortunately, in the fourth grade the science cirriculum hadn't included much about fluid dynamics in a vacuum.

Thanks, CK, for the recycle. I hope they keep coming too! Thanks, 'bean. Yep, I missed tax day two years in a row (so far)! And except for the rain and the water in the basement, it was a good day. I got another carrot cake with cream cheese icing. Thanks, Dave. I figure the 46 club can't be any worse than the 45 club was. I just hope the dues don't go up.

Happy 46th Birthday, 'Nut!I missed tax day two years in a row (so far)! What's 'tax day'? Do all Americans submit their taxes in the same day or it's the deadline day? We, the Portuguese, have the terrible habit to wait for the last day to submit wathever... not my case, though. Well... not everytime.

...What's 'tax day'? Do all Americans submit their taxes in the same day or it's the deadline day?... It's the deadline day; April 15. In earlier years, it was March 15 - the Ides of March that did Caesar in. Americans too tend to be procrastinators. In very simple terms, it is theoretically possible for individual tax payers to file their income tax returns from January 1 through April 15. However, practically, January is taken up with closing the books and gathering the necessary supporting documents. A great many taxpayers who have their income tax withheld by their employers from their paychecks, expect to receive a refund -- so they have an incentive to file as soon as possible. There really should be a book to describe all American taxes written for foreigners. It might reduce illegal immigration. Better poverty at home than poverty in America - perhaps.
