Well once again I thank the readers of this forum who are still around after all these years. You're wonderful!  I've been out of work lately so putting in a lot of Tropico hours.  I've now completed half the scenarios in the Mucho Macho Ed. Not all to great reviews mind you. But I guess I'm in a bit of a hurry as I'm worried you'll all disappear someday!

Anyway, so I've tried many variations on EcoTrop, the gold mines, the airport, the logging, the farming, just hotels.  The major problems I encounter is staffing my construction offices.  I can't get anything built in any reasonable time!!! I've got diplomatic to reduce costs, I've got immigration, which seems completely useless.  So I'm always struggling for money as even my school and college don't produce many students and I have to buy graduates.

At best, I've managed to have 5 hotels, mostly inhabited by slobs (I've tried high prices, manual and auto) I've built the eco attractions but they are always empty no matter how I price them. and the most eco tourists I've seen at any point in time has been 9, yes a scrawny little 9!!!!!!!!

THIS IS DRIVING ME INSANE, IT'S MY WORST SCENARIO TO DATE!

And I've not yet been allowed to survive the entire thing, I've always been booted out around 1995, either by 1. unhapiness, 2. coup, 3. rebels  !  I'm at a complete loss.

Ooohhhhhh can't anyone help me, I've made ever so little progress, I made it to 20 ecotourists and 30,000$.  I had absolutely no leeway, no regular income (only some papaya/logs/tobacco, I gave up on the gold as it's distant location meant huge time wastage) and construction is EVER SO SLOW. I've been following the Brady guide closer and keeping the hotels closed til the last decade in order to focus on construction needs as the immigration office doesn't help me increase workers. And I've even tried paying huge salaries, AAAAARRRRRRRRGGGHHHHHHH

You need atleast 10 hotels and that world geographic package edict. That should be more than enough to reach the goal .

There is a thread on how to beat it somewhere but the method advocated never worked for me.

Man oh man, I'm so depressed. Answer all three posts:

YES I tried with and without the drilling offer but nothing ever came of it after the offer?

The most hotels I've been able to afford to build is 5.5... yep, not even 6.  My only forms of income are basic entertainment, 2 logging camps, and the first free hotel. I've kept the other closed (Brady strategy) and opened on other tries, but I've never been able to build more than 6.

I've tried all the methods advocated in the SINGLE other THREAD discussing this scenario.

Start your tourist industry right from the get go. Your rise to power gives you a free hotel. Place it south of your main city (Upwind of your farms).Enact special building permit edict and anti litter ordinance. Build a construction office right in your tourist area. Construct two other hotels around a pool site . Convert three farms to tobacco. You will have to keep building hotels. Aim to get around 13 to 14 by the end of the game. If construction is slow add other construction offices . Be sure to have apartment complexes near your tourist area when your labourers get tired . Contruction will be slow but I found that the political difficulty is realy low cause I managed to get away with NO elections and NO military for a resonanle amont of time .By 1975 onwards start building banks and hiring bankers (after a college of course). I had 5 banks fully staffed by the end of the game and  reached the swizz bank requirement quite easily. The momment you get your 13 hotels enact the world geographic package. Be sure to enact it at least three years before the end of the game.

Well inspired I had another go but only managed to equal my previous best ($72k Swiss, 40 eco tourists) and could get nowhere near 13 hotels although I think I could possibly improve with another try on the same lines with more construction offices.

Don't understand the low political dificulty - as soon as I failed to call an election I had troop revolts and then a street uprising with 2 years to go Angry Angry Angry

I'd love to build extra hotels, it's just that the tourists don't seem to come in numbers, even though my environment is beautiful, and so I LACK INCOME and have to build a income producing units (logs and gold), and I've also done the tobacco farm bit.  You managed with only tobacco and tourism as outside income?Huh

Yup tobacco and tourism are more than enough. The democracy expectations are low in this scenario.Take advantage of this by not givin them elections hence keeping their expectation low. A wage hike and the mardi gras edict  should counter the threat of an uprising.

I agree with the tobacco, but also add cigars. Cigar factories have practically no pollution and add a good chunk to your cash.

Here is an older thread with some ideas:

http://www.the-nextlevel.com/tropico/cafe/index.php?topic=6549.0

Eco-tourists are a subset of rich tourists, so in addition to building your bank account you want to do everything possible to encourage rich tourists to visit, and minimize the slobs. Normally this would include a 1st-class-only airport, but if I recall correctly this island is pretty mountainous (? -- it's been a while now).

Hope this helps.

Well, progress on Eco Trop is happening ever so slowly, I've played a dozen times (with all your variations) and actually had one near miss, but it seemed fluky as the hotels earned much more money on that try than any other. There's some butterfly effect somewhere in there that I'm missing!

But anyhoo, when I get too pissed off at EcoTrop, I try others, and got IT'S MY ISLAND on the 6th try and FISHED OUT on the 4th try, woopie! Close though, only 13 months to go.  I needed slight micromanagement around 1957-58, to keep a couple of disgruntles from Rebelling on me, but other than that it was just persistence all the way, apt/corn/doctor/hotel/ over and over again! And of course I was a nice prez and won most my elections cleanly  Grin

Back to EcoTrop, back to the grind as the Tropicans say  Cheesy

I played this a few years ago and finally beat it, but I don't remember how I did it.  Replaying it and having problems also.  Like you I'm having trouble getting enough workers to come to the island.  Hotels sometimes stay empty a couple of years because workers don't come and yes, I'm paying a good wage.  I'm going to try the tobacco farm thing to get income going.

Another problem I've noticed is not many of my people want to go to school.  I'm paying a couple of teachers, but students are few and far between.

Well I've been bed ridden the past few days, so I've played another dozen times since Sunday. I came close on three occasions, got 64-69 ecotourists and 85,000 $ +/-. I think I've had some measure of success by starting off with a church and baby edict, figuring that would help my population, but then I noticed once I hit over 200 people, numbers weren't steady, and although the food numbers appeared good, there were enough unhappy eaters to actually leave the island, mostly the educated.  So I've got a new starting set up. I get the church/edict going, then lots of fishing and construction offices, then I start alternating between hotels and schools and infrastructure. Income mostly comes from coffee and tobacco, I tried logging and lumber mill, and also cigar factory, but those tries were far from successful, so I'm back to resource based income, but the hotels do provide a fair bit of income as well.  So by end of 80s I've got most of my hotels, then by mid 90s I start building shadow cathedrals, then in 97 the geo edict, the ecotourists come, but I still don't have quite enough cash to make the bar!  OHHHHHH I so want to be done with this scenario!

Even with the near successes, my last three tries have been flops as I'm pushing other percentages to get more money, Once again am faced with failure, aaaarrrrrhhhh!

SUCCESS!!!!!
No industries, all income from coffee and hotels (6R+3L). Issue all cost lowering edicts early. All environmental edicts late. Cut all expensive jobs in last 2 yrs. Keep happiness (home-health-food-rel-elect) up first 25 yrs, cut off elections last 20 yrs.
Thank you for your support
Goodbye to this thread, finally!!!!

Glad to hear you made it.  I did to.  Like you I went for coffee and hotels.  Held off on the National Geographic edic until the last few years combined with an ad campaign.  I got the cash with four banks and the special building edic.
