Alright here goes.....

I have surfed through every possible forum relating to Tropico 2 and have not been able to find any specific resolutions for the problem that many people seem to be having (including myself) about the problems trying to install and/or uninstall this game.

I have had Tropico 2 installed and running/playing with absolutely no problems and I played the game numerous times, enjoyed it very much.  I uninstalled the game a while back with no problems (or so I thought).

Now when I try to reinstall the game here's what's going on :

The install freezes at 100% and doesn't complete itself.... I actually let the "freeze" sit for over half an hour to see if maybe eventually it would finish the install completely..... it did not.

I clicked the cancel button (because it's the only button I have to choose from).... and of course then setup asks me if I'm sure I want to exit because the install is not finished.... I clicked "no" to see if that would help..... it just continued to be frozen.... so then I clicked "yes" and exited setup.

I attempted to unistall the program via Windows uninstall (obviously because I can't run the uninstall from the game disc because of the same repeated problems).  And when it attempts to uninstall, it whips through the process without showing any actual uninstalling going on and then tells you to click the "finish" button because "uninstall has been completed".

When I insert the disc to try to reinstall the game again.... it gives me these options:  Install, Register, Exit

So I click install...... guess what..... it only goes to the option to uninstall..... which of course takes me right back to the previous problem of it not uninstalling itself properly.

So I can't install the game and I can't uninstall the game.

I've tried cleaning out my registry of any and all bad keys, links, etc. etc., but that still didn't help.  And NO my cd is NOT bad.... like I said earlier, I had the game running beautifully before.  And YES I have more than the needed system requirements.  And NO I never had the original Tropico game, so that can't be the problem neither.

Now to top it all off..... I have searched all of my computer looking for any files/folders related to Tropico 2, so that I can physically remove them (in case that might be the problem).... but lo and behold, absolutely nothing exits on my system.... and yet still the game is wanting to uninstall itself even though there is supposedly nothing in my system for the game.

So the only thing I can think of now is that there HAS TO BE some kind of registry key that I haven't been able to locate, and maybe that's what's preventing the program from being able to install from scratch Huh

If anyone has some real suggestions/solutions to this popular problem, I would GREATLY appreciate it !!

Oh and by the way, please don't suggest reinstalling my operating system from scratch..... that just simply is not an option..... no game is worth having to completely backup my computer and start all over again setting up the whole system !!

Any true technical help would be wonderful !!!!

Thanks,
Brenda

Hi Brenda
Did you have a look at threads further down this board?
I had a quick look and this thread may be helpful - http://tropico.strategyplanet.gamespy.com/cafe/index.php?topic=6696.0 reply #13 it gives the name of the registry folder that might be causing your problem. Becareful though with your registry. Good luck and let us know if you get the problem sorted.
