Of all critics that I’ve read over the Internet (and I’ve read all of them), the most valuable one I think referred to the lack of action you get as the Pirate King yourself. I mean, all your captains and their crews appear to be having a great time in the paradise island you prepared for them. Meanwhile, the domestic tasks of slave driving and party planning keep you enclosed in your palace, depriving you subjects of your cheerful and somehow menacing company.

Thinking about this, I came to wander if it would be too much trouble to introduce the Pirate King as a stunt character pacing around the island, much like a captain without a ship would. He would use the island’s accommodations as any pirate of his rank (free of charge) and would display the statistics for his own loot, drink or wenches satisfaction.

Moreover, there could be a victory condition associated to HIS happiness level, instead of his captain’s, which, by the way, was excessively uncomplicated to achieve due to the former loot sharing quotas.

Plus, it would be comforting to watch him go disgruntled when things don’t go his way (frigate sunk, island cover blown or something like that).
