I'm doing Campaign 10 and I have 4 ships and docks now, but only 3 Captains. I can't seem to use the recruit Captain edict button as it is greyed out, even though I have well over $1000.00. Is there some other way to get a Captain? I'm cruising, but not capturing any Captains either.
It may be that you have over $1000 but less than $2000, and your other captains require $2000 (or more). $1000 is the minimum price.
That happened to me but one of my ships sank and my captain was captured but never came back.
As you know, such captains are supposed to come back. Unless the script provides otherwise.
http://tropico.strategyplanet.gamespy.com/cafe/index.php?topic=8371.msg184371#msg184371- You cannot promote any officer or pirate to Captain.
- Captains who were lost at sea in combat will return, usually within a month. They wade ashore somewhere on your island.
- If you have lost a captain due to a mutiny, or hand to hand combat/assassination (or hunger?) - then they are gone for good.
- If the game isn't offering any more captains - then you have had it.
It seems surprising that no one seems to have made a comprehensive post about captains. It seems somewhat 'logical' that while looking over the island, a new king would check out the captains available to him. But looking carefully at the manual and the strategy guide, I see no comment along those lines.
