Welcome to the Forum!
Rain, rain - come today and every day!

You have to learn how to SCRIPT events.

  • Under your /programsfiles/tropico directory, create a new directory called "Events".
  • Under the events directory, create a folder called "MoreRain".
  • In this morerain folder create the textfile "Rain.evt" containing the following lines:
CheckFrequencyYearBegin
ExecuteOnlyOnce
GeneralEffect Addto Cloudrate 100

You may need to read a few other things available here.

.evt files are part of the scripting for a scenario. They contain the guts of the script. There may be several. They may interact.

Back to "basics" maybe?

I am very sorry that I did not speak so you could understand.

I think that to speak to your understanding, I have to know where you are starting.
  • How well do you know how to work internally on your own computer?
  • Have you read any of the threads on the "Scenario Editor, ..." Board here?

When you registered, you did not tell us anything about yourself.

Here is a link to look at that deals with how to change rain:

Sorry I am not a good mind-reader.

lol we are supposed to be dictator, not god, we cant alter the weather patterns, short of editing scripts like was said, but that is cheating of course, probably willl make things easier seeing as most crops benefit from heavier rain, and I dont think there are any drawbacks to rain.

In addition to changing the "cloud rate" by using a script which changes an existing map, it is possible to set the relative base level of rain when setting up random maps at the beginning.

When "starting from scratch" to set up the attributes of an island, the first setting is "Vegetation":
  • Barren
  • Sparse
  • Normal (the default)
  • Lush
  • Overgrown
.
These settings also set the base rainfall level at a parallel amount.

Therefore, you need to set the "vegetation" level to match the rainfall for the crop you wish to be primary on the island, e.g. 'overgrown' for sugar.

Also be aware that more rain does not necessarily equal better. I was playing Mike Cresswell's map 'The Ancient One' which includes an offer that boosts cloudrate by 100% ; instantly the whole island was a swamp! The ground was so wet I had to feed my people pineapple because I couldn't grow corn anywhere! (On the good side, you should have seen my farms pump out sugar after that - too bad it wasn't a rum scenario.) So be careful when messing with CloudRate, small Effects can have big affects!

Also, you weather meddlers out there should be aware that changing CloudRate does not have an *immediate* effect. It changes how thick the clouds are, but the clouds still have to generate at the edge of the map, move over your island and do that rainy thing. So a change in cloud rate will take a few months before you see any effect -- and a few months more before any change in your crops' growth will become noticeable.
