I don't know how this would fit in to the game but here it goes.

(If you have played mall tycoon in the past then you know what I'm talking about)

The way research would work is through the Collage. When called upon the Professers in that collage would try to devise a solution to a problem (Eg. Instead of an ugly pit mine ,the professers could make the miners able to use tunnels to extract ore thus less enviomental damage).Depending on how skilled the professers are ,how many students are in the collage and how much money you fund into it it could take a couple of months or a year or more.

Well I tried so.......

Welcome to the Café and thank you for sharing your views on Tropico mining industry with us. This should go into the "Suggestions for developers" thread, though.

As TeamStar says, welcome.

Just to clarify the "Research" concept, the very popular German game series Anno (1602 A.D., 1503 A.D., etc.) used it extensively.

The schools were at two levels, After they were built, by spending money in combination with attendance - a series of 'research steps' could be taken. Those steps generally opened-up construction of additional buildings.

My point is that the concept is well known to European game developers.

It could be adapted to T3. However, the developers might not find it consistent with the theme of Tropico. After all, Tropico is a back-water, small island which is home to a "tin-pot" dictator. The schools are merely glorified trade schools and not sophisticated academic research centers. The kind of improvements you seem to have in mind are more likely to come as foreign aid from the US or the USSR.

If there are not open pit mines, there would be no annimation of mining. That's no fun.

Well, yes -- T3 may have all sorts of views. Some maybe off the map such as peeping into buildings or whatever.

In my opinion, that's a distraction from this game into some kind of adventure with no map.

Think of mine tunnels (Underground view) like this:
"El Presdiente's Money Making Ant Farm  Wink Smiley Cheesy Grin"

P.S A little off topic but I think there should be caves in T3 or any underground space where rebels could stronghold until the next attack.
