Awesome work! Although I miss the vivid colors of the Caribbean, I guess it's because it's alpha version.
How many times I wanted to "plunge" into my island streets, now I can (I will).

Yeah. So far we're keeping closer to the look of the original with its rusty corrugated metal sheets and mouldy concrete than to the (IMHO much more appropriate) tropical paradise greeting card look.

IMO, the screen-shots did not appear to be those of actual game-play. but more like those
that would be extracted from a trailer.

Is this correct?

I agree, it does look quite depressing....I hope there will be more color to it, Latin America is all about bright colored buildings...

Little late coming back to the party, but I gotta say, BRING IT ON. I'm so ready for a new Island to get thown off of, I can't stand it.  Grin
And I agree TeamStar, nice work on the grapical details, just need lots of colors. Yellows, pinks, reds, and that cool green/blue welcome of the water.

Too add, the buildings (especially in screenshot 3) look very very run down and are pretty much everywhere. I know the majority of the people are poor, but there is a middle and upperclass!

I agree with both of you, it does looks depressing and runned down, like there's been a recent hurricane. Caribbean it's all about La Fiesta, bring on the colors!

Oh yeah, I didn't even see him up there.....That's another thing, I hope there aren't rebel everywhere, like "infestation"... Unless these screenshots are from one bad/unpopular dictator....

I usually always seem to rule with kindness and fairness....it's entertainment or a fluke to see a rebel on my island...

Why is the greeting card look more appropriate?   It won't be realistic if there are not slums or at least more run down housing.      Call me a voyeuristic westerner but I like the corrugated iron chic look.

I like the rusty look too, but with more color! I see some water in one of the pics and I hope it's a swamp, not the blue-celeste caribbean ocean. Also it will be harder to spot rebels on rooftops...  Grin

... - politcal challenges can be, e.g. natives on your island - you can try to integrate them into your society, just taking their land might result in attacks on tourists or buildings. Again you can also use your military. ...

I was steamed when I first saw this crack-pot idea. Now I am twice steamed because I just stumbled over what might be its source.

Back in early 2001 there was a thread titled, "If you could add one thing to Tropico, what would it be?"
Padre_Matthias: I would add natives and/or Gullah villages who live out in the jungle and are not really part of your population.  ...

Based on reply #61, Haemimont seems to be taking full responsibility for the idea. Therefore, I am deleting the rest of this post because it doesn't make any difference and is off topic.

Adding natives on the island was our own idea and was not based on posts in the forum.

Say What?

lol, CK said something along these lines:

Besides economic problems, you get it again and again with the political challenges to do. There is, for example, the natives of the island, either in public life or to be a real danger maybe. Build around too close to or in the worst case in their area, it could happen that the natives or tourists Huh raided farms.

..., CK said something along these lines: ...

Actually, that is a quote copied from the German magazine. Anyone who looked at the screenshots saw the text around them. I merely picked out part of if that seem to have to do with the "natives."

Taking another stab at it, and based on what Seth provided:

Besides economic problems [to overcome], you get to do it again and again with the political challenges [also]. There are, for example, maybe the natives of the island, either [to intergrate into] public life or to be a real danger. [If you] build [your buildings] around too close to or, in the worst case, in their area, it could happen that the natives [will attack] tourists or raid farms.

'Rebel Yell' provided similar information in his summary of the German article previously in this thread.

First off the screen shots are really detailed and good looking.  But, like most, they seem dull in appearance.  Another thing I noticed is that the buildings appear fairly crowded. Now, I must admit, I have not traveled extensively in the Carribean, but the islands I have been to (Bahamas) are far less densely populated than the shots shown.  I am not sure, but I am guessing the images of Cuba and the European influence of the development team may have some impact on these shots.  Also, this appears to be fairly late in the game and that may have something to do with the population/building density.

I really think we can't go by those pics too much.  They look like early versions to me, and I don't even think the game is anywhere close to going Beta (testing and bug discovery).

Here's a link to some more pics ...

I am furious with these screen shots.

From the time that we first heard here that T3 was in production and I made some intemporate comments about Bulgaria, I have been castigated for doubting that a Bulgarian Studio might stub their toe on what the 1950's Caribbean was like.

Now they are going out of their way to prove me correct.

There is no way East European "socialism" can portray a small Caribbean island in the 1950's. It can not even look like Mexico City today.

The shot of a beach upsets me. The artist needs a lesson in geology or at least a little web surfing.

The "studio" has some things going for it in the plans for some parts of the game; some are very interesting to me. But they really need to get their act together on the art work. That is supposed to be their strong factor.

I sure don't want to buy a game about an island in the Caribbean that looks like Communist East Europe built on a pancake in the middle of a puddle.

hello i am a regulary reader of this forum and i like it soo much  Grin
Of course i played and still play Tropico  Cool
But i never registered me because i found it would not be nesassary.
BUT now it IS !!!

As i has read about the Screenshots and as i saw them i totaly agreed with you that there must be MUCH MORE COLORS  Undecided
And as i saw the new ones i was extremly afraid  Undecided Sad Angry Angry Shocked Undecided

So in my opinion there is still a lot of work for the Grafik designer.
They have to create more plants and rework the City the only thing i liked was the Cathedral (looks like the original one on Cuba  Cheesy)
Here is a Pic i found that shows how it have to be: http://frysingerreunion.org/1/Cuba/havana05.jpg
And some more that show the REAL caribic! : http://www.galenfrysinger.com/old_havana.htm

The second and third pictures definitely give off a Eastern Europe circa 1980 feel, although they also look very (uncharacteristically) industrialized so a new game would probably look much different.
