As far as I know there were talks with Daniel Indart to write the score for Tropico 3, but so far nothing is certain.

I have been listening to my music CDs of "The Daniel Indart Project" for all the previous Tropico releases.

Commenting as a listener with no other music skills, I can say with some assurance that the deep key to the success of the music - especially to listen to it again and again without boredom - is the quality of the voices. They capture exactly the mood of the rhythm and instruments for each song.

While I think it is valid to question the coverage of all the range of Caribbean music in terms of key instruments and special styles, there can be no doubt that Daniel Indart's music is an essential part of Tropico.

If the developers of T3 go with some other music consultant, author, or producer -- they take a great risk. Mr. Indart deserves a significant 'royality' from T3 one way or another.

Of course we also have to consider the contribution of Lou Bega -- David Lubega (a.k.a. Lou Bega) (born April 13, 1975, Munich, West Germany) is a musician famous for his song "Mambo No. 5". This song is a remake of the Perez Prado instrumental from 1952. Bega added his own words to the song and sampled the original version extensively.

In the computer game Tropico, Lou Bega is one of the characters a player can choose as their dictatorial persona. He was included as part of a licensing deal that also saw Bega's song "Club Elitaire" integrated into the German release of Tropico. Also, in the Ubi Soft/Disney Interactive video game Walt Disney's The Jungle Book Rhythm n' Groove, Lou Bega participates in a challenge with his namesake. The player dances as King Louie, attempting to dance to Lou Bega's rendition of "I Wanna Be Like You". Doing so will unlock a video of him with children dancing to the aforementioned song. Bega also wrote the theme song for the French cartoon series Marsupilami.

Lou Bega works as a co-lyricist for the German Euro-Trance band Groove Coverage.

His third studio album, Lounatic, was released on May 10, 2005. The first single released was "Bachata" followed by "You Wanna Be Americano" and "Conchita".

"Bachata" ?? Gee whiz, that sounds a lot like the Tropico radio station option 'Baja Bachata', eh?

I hope T3 retains the localized sound-effects which are activated by the areas in the close zoom-in that the player is looking at.

I remember that 'Cafe-Dave' posted a comment when he discovered the "3D sound" by accident.

Who knows what the developer's music director will find on the cheap just down the street? We have seen what the art (visual) director likes.

By their answer on their board, Kalypso really doesn't care. To tell the truth, I don't either.

With the economy headed down the drain, this game is really going to have to be a super-star to pay off the cost. Let alone make a profit.

While we have had some recriminations about the music here, it seems that the Haemimont upgrades to the visuals should be matched by similar upgrades to the sound track in all its aspects.

While Daniel Indart's music was one of the defining aspects of T1, that should not mean that he should get a free ride for T3.

Since the first publication, a lot of Caribbean and "Latin" music has come to wider attention and availability. Hopefully, Haemimont has a music specialist who is exploring the wide variety of themes which can be linked to the game play. Yes, simple repetition of a series of songs won't do with 3D visuals.

The themes of the songs (vs localized sound effects) of the soundtrack have to be keyed to gameplay major events. The Election Year! The Mardi Gras! The 'Headliner'! Sports Events! Rebel Assualts! Uprisings! and so forth.

So the music part of the soundtrack has to be more than just a "happy up-beat" series of entertainment singing.

I suggest that the Haemimont music specialist may wish to look at the new thread "Tropican Film Fest" which has some links worth following. Well, at least I think so.

I think it would be better to keep the traditional island music, but i definatly wouldn't object to some Bob Marley, Peter Tosh or Jimmy Buffett(I think they used an instrumental version of his "I Can't Be Your Hero Today" in T1)

What would you definitely object to?

Do you mean T1 traditional, or historical island tradition?

Vodou chants are island traditions.

Perez Prado and Esquivel are fantastic additions to the possible Tropico 3 game. It should all be instrumental though with the latin voice thingy that they do. I honestly wouldn't mind having many of the original Tropico songs in there. I never get tired of them.

Attention !

Have any of you who trip-off on suggesting your favorite artists, etc. thought about the additional cost of the game you are suggesting because it will have to provide royalities to your famous suggestions?

From what I've seen and read about the game development, they will probably pick the Ivan Milev Band to do the music Roll Eyes

The Flight Of Krali Marco
© 2006 Ivan Milev Band (822543000121)

Ivan Milev Band opens the boundaries for an amazing journey into the depths of Bulgarian and Balkan music. A legendary performer, accordionist Ivan Milev has established the rules that govern Bulgarian Folk Music throughout his 30-plus year career. He is the mastermind behind Ivan Milev Band, having gathered a group of musicians from Eastern Europe to record a landmark album of Balkan folk music.

Ivan is an accordionist of incredible virtuosity and technique, and his vision of combining multiple ethnic styles has produced tunes with daring key changes and dizzying tempos. Battling solos between the veteran accordionist and his apprentice, violinist Entcho Todorov, deliver energizing performances of Bulgarian and Balkan folk music.

Ivan Milev Band is the vision of two musical talents and two friends – Ivan and Entcho, that see the potential of Balkan music extending far from the Eastern European region and thrilling audiences from different cultures and musical backgrounds around the world.

In the summer of 2006, Ivan Milev Band released THE FLIGHT OF KRALI MARCO, a unique and ambitious recording that attempts to unify Balkan Folk Music in a way that has never been done before.

From just about any angle, the history of the Balkans is rich with power struggles, revolutions, and hardship. Very few geographical areas have witnessed so many cultural mutations and regenerations. Though blood and war was often at the center of these changes and this ever-evolving area, one cannot overlook the unique creative expressions that have surfaced as a result of this rich and diverse land.

Instead of demarcating these boundaries, THE FLIGHT OF KRALI MARCO, embraces them. Instead of saying those people are not a part of my history, it sees its history all throughout the Balkan region, expressed by the many cultures and ethnicities.

It is no doubt wounderful music, but I suspect that Haemimont will restrain themselves in the sound-track selections.

Listening to the previews, it seems to me that Haemimont would probably choose the high-energy tracks and not use the low-energy tracks as a way to make the music sound more like the "traditional" Tropico pieces.

The Mad Hatter:

There's a great Ray Stevens bit I heard way back when on the Dr. Demento show, called "The Pirate Song."  The gist of it is that the dread pirate captain Long John Blackbeard Peg-Leg Patch-Eye Hook wants to take his crew pirating and looting and treasure hunting, but one crew member refuses, singing a chorus of this...

I want to sing and dance!
I want to sing and dance!
I want to be a pirate in The Pirates of Penzance!
With me silver buckled slippers and me tight shiney pants,
I want to sing and dance!

Happy Birthday Old Friend !

Arrogant Worms, "The Last Saskatchewan Pirate"

Now I wonder if there is a verse about Pirate Dancing in Saskatoon? It would probably leave the ladies in a swoon, if not the Pirate himself.

The song's about a prairie farmer who loses his land and takes up piracy. The Arrogant Worms are a wonderful, proudly C*n*di*n band, with quirky tunes with titles like "Carrot Juice is Murder", "I am Cow", and "Jesus' brother Bob".

Here is the full text of "The Last Saskatchewan Pirate", for your enjoyment.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Well, I used to be a farmer and I made a living fine
I had a little stretch of land along the C. P. line
But times got tough, and though I tried, the money wasn't there
The bankers came and took my land and told me, "Fair is fair"
I looked for every kind of job, the answer always no
"Hire you now?" they'd always laugh, "We just let twenty go!" (Ha ha!)
The government, they promised me a measly little sum
But I've got too much pride to end up just another bum

Then I thought, who gives a d*m*d if all the jobs are gone
I'm gonna be a pirate on the river Saskatchewan! (Arr!)

Chorus:
And it's a heave (ho!) hi (ho!), coming down the plains
Stealing wheat and barley and all the other grains
And it's a ho (hey!) hi (hey!), farmers bar yer doors
When you see the Jolly Roger on Regina's mighty shores (Arr!)

Well, you'd think the local farmers would know that I'm at large
But just the other day I found an unprotected barge
I snuck up right behind them and they were none the wiser
I rammed the ship and sank it and I stole the fertilizer
Bridge outside of Moose Jaw spans a mighty river
Farmers cross in so much fear, their stomach's are a-quiver
'Cause they know that Captain Tractor's hiding in the bay
I'll jump the bridge, and knock 'em cold, and sail off with their hay

{Chorus}

Well, Mountie Bob he chased me, he was always at my throat
He'd follow on the shoreline 'cause he didn't own a boat
But the cutbacks were a-comin' and the Mountie lost his job
So now he's sailing with me and we call him Salty Bob
A swingin' sword, a skull-and-bones, and pleasant company
I never pay my income tax and screw the GST1 (Screw it!)
Prince Albert down to Saskatoon, the terror of the sea
If you wanna reach the co-op, boy, you gotta get by me! (Arr!)

{Chorus}

Well, the pirate life's appealing but you don't just find it here
I hear in north Alberta there's a band of buccaneers
They roam the Athabasca from Smith to Fort MacKay
And you're gonna lose your Stetson if you have to pass their way
Well, winter is a-comin' and a chill is in the breeze
My pirate days are over once the river starts to freeze
I'll be back in springtime, but now I've got to go
I hear there's lots of plunderin' down in New Mexico...

1 The GST is C*n*d*'s national 7% sales tax (aka the Goods and Services Tax).

Captain Carrrghter his self. And I'm sure he would promote the Arrogant Worms for a part in the sound track of T3.

BTW, the C.P. line has reference to the Canadian Pacific railroad, for the benefit of strangers to North America.
