T3 needs a naval force to keep its shores safe.

Probably one light house should be automatic. If the sea has a reef, El Presidente should have the option to upgrade that light house and build others (also upgradeable) to provide "life-saving-services" for ships/boats in distress.

These few government sailors would be very loyal to El Presidente since their duties would be so light. They would greatly upgrade the "row-boat" escape which indignity El Presidente sadly is subjected to from time-to-time.

That is to say, there would be two "losing" trailers: T1's standard rowboat which would play if El Presidente fails to provide a "coast guard", and a new T3 trailer with a semi-functional powered boat manned by a friendly two man crew from the "coast guard".

By June 21, I was already disallusioned, and in the fall-back mode. T3 was something I had not expected.

Certainly, a Coast Guard aspect is an excellent idea! I'll third that motion!  Grin I think that the Navy could act in a similar aspect as the Army. Well, ok obviously, but what I mean is, perhaps the light houses -- or better yet -- Navy piers could have Admirals much how the Armory contains Generals. Each Armory houses 3 Generals in T1, so why not have either a Naval pier or a light house that houses 3 Admirals. And as with the Generals, each Admiral housed at the facility allows for the creation of 3 sailors. So 3 Admirals equals 3 sailors. Just as each General in T1 allows for the creation of 3 soldiers (for your Guard Towers.) Know what I mean?!  Cool

Oh, and perhaps there could be an option to upgrade the currently existing wharfs. Why not allow for the etrance of larger yachts and even large cruise ships carrying even more tourists (like Royal Caribbean Cruises for instance.) The addition of an airport allows a greater number of tourists to enter the island by plane already.
Perhaps some sort of requirement has to be met, a certain number of buildings have to be constructed from the Tourist options on the tool bar in order to gain this option. It'd be nice to see large yachts in addition to the frieghters, Coast Guard vessals (presumably), and small fishing boats that already exist in T1 and Paradise Island.  Smiley

... Know what I mean?

Indeedy we do! Except not admirals -- it has to be commodores like your local yacht club.

I certainly hope T3 greatly increases the maintenance costs for the "Government" class of buildings which are (with all their employees) a dead weight on the economy. That might restrain El Presidente's ego a bit.

A really classey idea: Double the charge to the Treasury for the pay of all employees in >Government< buildings and credit half that charge to El Presidente's retirement bank account.

Cruse Ships come with T4, and another $50 purchase.

T3 is going to have a TIME LINE EDITOR to control anachronisms.

WOW! I really didn't understand the Bulgarian\German meaning of that term. To control the "time line" of the game, T4 will add the cliché of all the German games such as the ANNO series == RESEARCH to unlock new buildings. That fits in the Caribbean like the often mentioned "turd in the punch bowl."

Perhaps you could provide the reseach on when the "cruise lines" began operations.

Frankly, I think that editor will totally reorganize shipboard arrival of tourists, e.g. some will come on freighters. Additionally, air service should be available by sea-plane from the very start.

What a hopeful idiot I was!

Hey Coconut Kid! How's it goin'?  Cool Well, I must sincerely thank you for taking the time to read and respond to some of my thread posts. Granted, not all of my suggestions, ideas, comments, etc. are necessarily or completely fesable -- they're just things that came to mind.  Smiley
Pertaining to your comments about the origin of cruise liners, I know only very little. The first vessel developed for such a commercial purpose was the Prinzessin Victoria Luise, completed in 1900 (and it was on the Hamburg-America line, if I'm not mistaken).  Wink
But not to get off on a tangent -- for our intents and purpsoes (i.e. the Caribbean theme), I think that the Royal Caribbean International brand came into existance in 1968. Princess Cruises came about 2 years earlier. And Carnival Cruises came into existance in 1972. And lest we forget that 1970s program: "Love Boat?" Hehehe! So, let's say that perhaps by the late 1960s or early '70s, once you get your tourist infrustructure in place, such cruise lines can be made available at Tropico's ports!  Grin

A parting shot.

It was an uploaded picture of a Caribbean nation's naval boat. Naturally lost in the move to a new server. You can find a similar one quite easily by searching, eh?

I like the idea of a coast guard/navy for Trop3, but would expect it to be part of a (possible) future x-pac.

I'm currently having a difficult time... imagining what functions such a force would have.

... I'm currently having a difficult time imagining what functions such a force would have.

In my initial post I gave a bare thumbnail after recognizing naval functions would be minimal.
  • First, an alternate losing trailer.
    • Escape in an "upgraded" rowboat
      • A small "put-put" type fishing boat of questionable sea worthyness
      • A couple of "loyal" guards in addition to your "advisor"
    • One of several END trailers including the "State Funeral" El Presidente's death of old age
  • Second, aid to navigation in the form of a Lighthouse building
    • It could improve the frequency & regularity of freighters
    • It could also be a sight-seeing attraction for tourists

It now occurs to me there could be a patrol activity. T1 scripting allows "placing" numbers of Unemployed and/or Rebels at locations on the island to represent illegal immigration (although they can't be distinguished from other residents so far as I know). The single fully staffed Coast Guard Station would operate a regular boat patrol (circuting the island) which would reduce or eliminate such scripted activity.

Additionally, I don't see any reason they couldn't  join the army in defending the Palace. With unquestioned loyality, they would likewise oppose coups.

And thank you El Malo so much for your strong support for the navy.

The Light House building would be the employment building for the government Sailors who would have avatars only slightly different from the Fishermen.

I continue to be surprised that the Bulgaians have such a mechanical, dull, gained from the internet impression of life in the Caribbean nations and what tourists going there find attractive.

How could they know that light-houses are attractive to Americans? Are there romantic light houses on the sea shores of Bulgaria? Oh, but by looking at the Caribbean on the internet, They know all.

But they needed to make a new avatar for fake Native Tropicans. They serve well in one of the non-functional tourist attractions.
