Three new shots released by Kalypso are all over the internet. Kindly note the "early development" part in the announcement.

Wow! Thanks, Lyubo_Haemimont!

So far, it looks like they've tried pretty hard  to not lose the original feel of Tropico 1, based on these shots.

However, the new graphics add in a whole new feel to the game.

   Keep up the good work!

@ Lyubo,

Thank you for the link!  Wink

Observations:

I'm glad to see the ground is not pancake flat.

With buildings that size in towns that closely built, you will surely need to add a fire brigade.

In shot #3, I was surprised to see so many tiny dish antennae. That's very new technology, I think. Either it is very late in the game or anachronistic.

Anyone want to take a bet that the screenies have absolutely nothing to do with the actual game.

They are just something that their art department put together... to hype the game.

Does T1 look anything like the scenes portrayed in the game's opening?

Wow, those look lavish and gorgeous! But yes, the question is still, gameplay or cinematic screenshots?

... With buildings that size in towns that closely built, you will surely need to add a fire brigade. ...

And I see fires are a noticeable part of GA:R !

And do I love Fire Brigades !!

For Caribbean Islands (in simulation), you do not have to create an elaborate (new) building. Just add a small garage onto the Police Station building.

Then add one or two slots for employees "segregated" (last to left to be filled last) which when staffed would activate the Fire Brigade Station part of the building.

You don't need a different set of avatars; the Police Officers do very well. Oh, it would be nice to see them wearing those lovely brass Roman style helmets when they drive out the really antique fire truck and unroll a length of hose to squirt water. But that is probably just too much icing on the cake.

Unless the island is really huge1, there is no need for elaborated zones of response. Every active fire truck responds to every fire in an "urban" building (in T1 terms = no response to category "farms & mines" or to housing below 50* quality level). A second fire which occurs before the first is put out causes confusion -- as it should. This is not a North American fire fighting simulation.

*Reverse quality level of Country House & Tenement.

1 Without any idea of the size of the island, it's hard to guess about fire brigade zones. I'd like not to have them, but they may be necessary. Perhaps they could be the same as the Patrol Zones of the Police Officers from the same building to reduce the coding.

Once again, a late in the development cycle, thought for discussion.

Here are my comments on those three new images:

1.) I am absolutely happy that there are paved roads and automobiles this time. This useful aspect of the game will make it easier for me to move troops, goods, services and civilians to various points in the island at a much more rapid and realistic pace;

2.) I really like the new look of the apartment complexes in the next "Tropico". It looks "luxurious" and it meshes well with the overall environment that the game is based in. That does not mean that I have stopped liking the "Soviet" look that the much larger tenements happen to have, however.

I also like the fact that the apartment complexes have six levels instead of three this time. It would make it much easier for me to house my fellow Comrades in quality-based, high-density housing, that is, once I get my hands on the game when it is released...

3.) I am impressed with the new look of the other buildings and the look of the avatars. It helps to enhance the game's replication of our reality, that is, in relation to the Latin American and Caribbean regions.

---

The above comments are, of course, dependent on whether or not these images are from the opening sequence of the next "Tropico", but, from what I can see, that is, at the moment, it does not look like that it is from the opening sequence of the next "Tropico" and that the aforementioned images are from actual gameplay.

To join the screenie line-up.

We are beginning to need some sub-category boards for T3. Maybe Screenshots would be one.
