Hello,
I have a question i didn´t found before in the forum...
It´s about Tropico 1 and my population
My happy "little" Island now has 1400 habitants (Freemode) but there´s a problem,
I want to raise the population furthermore but the stats have mistakes;
like i have 60 birth, 30 death, 0 emigrants, 6 immigrants and my population stats
decline from 1450 to 1437...thats pretty annoying

Is that a kind of limiting the population? or a remediable bug or sth?

Thanks for any help

Happy to have you visit the Cafe!

To do "trouble shooting", there has to be a few questions:

Just for curiosity, what edition & version are you playing?

1400 habitants (Freemode)
I hope I can take that to mean, you are playing a "random island" rather than a pre-designed scenario.

When you say the "stats have mistakes", you are referencing a page in the Almanac? If so, did you cross check the total on that page to the total in the "Circle Window area (lower right of the screen)?

There are probably only a couple of threads on the topic of large populations, and they only discuss maximum numbers. I can not recall any which discuss population errors in the Almanac. So, frankly it is probable that no one has ever before cared to question the game's bookkeeping on that point - so it is not a documented situation.

Also, there is some limited evidence that the game tends to become unstable when some size parameters are pushed.

Additionally, I have no idea of the sequence in which the engine runs its counts and its updates to totals. It is not beyond possibility that you actually have 49 emigrants who have not yet been posted to the Almanac because, although they have gone to the Port and disappeared, a Freighter has not docked to trigger an update to the vital statistics. (Speculation on my part.)

It seems that way back in the advanced development, it was decided not to artificially limit the population because "game-play" would seldom expand the population beyond the engine's capacity -- so as far as I know there is no internal limit mechanism.

a remediable bug or sth
I don't know what sth is. There is a bit more to be done to identify your experience - in a single game - as a "bug" rather than just a "sport" error in that game.

That's not much help I know, but it's the best I can do singlehandedly.

Hello,
sorry for my style of english, i´m a german...
I also have problems to understand everthing you said, so you shouldn´t suprised
if I repeat questions or talk strange o.s.  Grin

As answers to the questions: it always happens, not for curiotsity, i play tropico gold 1.53...
And yes I cross checked the totals and the problem is not only shown in the Almanac, so not only a
statistical problem...I have acitvated every possible option to raise the birthrate and every year
masses of my people "disappear", although the stats are positive balanced

The thing with the not yet gone emigrants can´t be the solution because I have acitvated the option
"Nobody leaves living" (i don´t know the english version display) and have 0 emigrants every year

Apart from that, thanks for the fast answer

note* s.th. = a (german?) shortcut for 'something'

This is an international forum for all who mangle the the English language -- especially the British and those who think real words can be compressed onto cellphone text messages.

I finally remembered the phrase that I meant with "just a "sport" error in that game" -- that is to say:

Individual games can be subject to having the code corrupted so that particular game does not play correctly. I have had several examples -- before I knew what I was looking at.

I know it is a pain in the butt, but the best advice is to give up on that game and start another.

Sandbox mode in this game is not error proof.

I tried to start a new game...but it´s the same everytime
Also in every saved game...it seems to be a mistake on the game?
Do you also have that problem or are there exactly countings of the people?

If nobody else has that problem, may i have to reinstall it

I have never tried to run my population to such high numbers and I have never tried to audit the Almanac report on population.
