Today Tropico... tomorrow the world!!!

« on: 07/14/09 at 06:25 PM »

So far, they have provided some interesting thought and speculation.

We again gaze upon, a well-developed island infrastructure, call it Miami... on a flat, boring island.

Hopefully, this was just "bad luck", with the random island generation.

Someone, that I discussion the building sprites with... gets physically ill looking at them.

I've also heard grumbles, about not enough Caribbean influence on the buildings.

The feeling that I got is not Caribbean, but South Florida.

It is tropical, dangerous, depraved and ill-moral... close enough for me  Grin

Since we have only seen the "uber-urban" building sprites... who knows about anything else.

I'm sure everyone noticed that the screenies were not from game-play, it was a just a well-done map.

I suspect, that the successful integration of the interface, to the game platform... was just a few hours old.

Designing "purty" maps, is a big part of my T1 time.

Hopefully, we will get some screenies, of a more humble Tropico, sometime in the near future.

I did find the interface to be less obtrusive, than with T1.

As you say, when you look closely they provide lots of material for thoughtful speculation.

The one that shows the Motel selected for example.

Taken in context of all the previous screenies, it seems clear that there will be several varieties of motel buildings. I reviewed other, older screenies and it's all the same building. It can look very different from different angles.

The white line showing it is the selected building indicates the size of the "footprint" needed for vacant space to build it -- including 1/2 the roadway it fronts on. It appears a couple of minor parts of it (the sign gas pumps & snack-shack) intrude on the sidewalk area reserved for the very few people who walk about.

Additionally, it is clear that vehicles go anywhere except the rock piles. It seems certain that spaces between buildings get automatically filled with wonderfully smooth and even paving stones. That feature doesn't leave much room for landscaping. Sad, no wonderful tropical flower beds to soften the urban environment. The people will have to drive their cars out to the undeveloped jungle to see flowers or cactus.

You say South Florida. It seems much more like Arabia to me.

I don't really like the idea of roads being filled in between buildings.  It just screams ugly to me, I like having flowers and trees everywhere on my island.

That's wrong, assen says on the Kalypso forum :

Vehicles travel only on roads. If you insist otherwise, I'll call Lyubo to wave his hand in your general direction!
