Hi Tobyjo,

Did you download and install the v1.04 upgrade patch for the game? If not, you can find it at http://talonsoft.com/patches/godgames/tropico.html .

Also, is the label on the CD that you bought gray or blue?

I've found several PCs that suffered from this problem, and the patch has helped quite a few. As far as the CD label, the blue labeled CD seems to suffer less from this problem. I don't know what the differences are between the gray and blue label CDs, as they seem to have the same set of files on them (more or less). Could be the method that the originals were burnt.

The new 1.05 upgrade is supposed to solve Nvidia problems, it might help you... check for download link on the CafeTropico main page.

I have the blue label CD.  When I try to apply the patch it ask me to to overwrite files like normal and I overwrite them.  But when I right click tropico.exe and look at its properties it still says v.1. I've also tried the lastest 1.05 patch.  I still get the same error!! Angry

If you right-click and check the properties of the Tropico.exe file, it will still reflect "1.0" (even after applying the upgrade patch). The only place that you'll see the actual true version number is at the lower left hand corner of the main menu within the game (at "El Presidente's" desk).

You may want to contact Talonsoft for tech support. Their email address is techsupport@talonsoft.com and their phone number in the US is (410) 933-9191 (sorry, I don't know their international numbers).

Hope this helps,

Hi,

I thought I might have got further in the geforce 2 mystery by typing in find tropico.exe
Three different tropico icons came up each having different warning signs when I tried to launch:
1.     "cannot load libary mss32.dll "
In this one I actually the sun of tropico launching sign, but the warning I just said appeared.

2. "A required .DLL file, BINKW32.DLL", was not found.
This came up as soon as I tried launching.

3. Going on about my program performing an illegal operation, like the first post I sent warning

If this rings a bell to anyone then please say:)

well, I'm a programmer and to me that basically means it crashed. Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Unless they are coding in assemble that register dump is unlikely to help them.

Contact Talonsoft for help.

Hi from Russia!
I have a similar problem, like Tobyjo.
My computer is : Celeron 800, 256 RAM, Matrox G450 32Mb DDR Dual Head.
I try to launch the Tropico it says "Tropico has caused an error in Tropico.exe."   Huh
Why?
How I can play Tropico?
Please, help me!

P.S. Sorry for my English
