This is an error message I get when trying to run tropico, I can get into the menu part of the game but when I get to the 3d part and try to play the screen will go all black and I get a message pop-up that says:

D3D error in file ", line 1407, 'undefined'
error code 1: #-1414922010
error code 2: #-2147024882
    continue?

when I select no it crashes to the desktop and is gone, if I select continue it goes through a few more lines of errors then crashes, entirely.

I have win98se, asus a7v266 w/ K-7 1400/266, Prophet DDR-DVI, Creative SB live value, and the latest directX from MS and all the right drivers for my sound and vid cards. quite a mystery to me.

Try reinstalling DirectX.
There may be problems if other drivers are installed after the installation of DirectX.

Cheers

i heard that microsoft supports its product for five years... Win 98 + 5 = 2003. DirectX 9.0 and 9.0a i beleive no longer support Win98.
i have the same problem with D3D. I think i'm gonna apgrade to Win XP double my RAM and install Dx 9.0a
cheers.

DX 9.0 has been a mixed bag from what i've heard. thats why i don't have it Smiley

uninstall directx (run a google for the program that does it) and then install 8 again. or better yet, install the one that comes with tropico (forget which) and see what happens then.

98 + 5 = 2002. 98 is an inclusive year. so you won't get any support from microsoft for Win98

another thing worth considering (although its prob not the cause of this problem), is that sometimes when i'm in hardware mode and hover over the military base, I get a D3D error message which is similar to the one you are getting. Some sort of hardware rendering error of the building is occuring.

Are you running Tropico in hardware or software? If your running it in hardware, try it in software (load the 'safe mode' exe and change the setting in the game options).
