So, is this where one goes to try and slip back into a posting mood without being out of context?

Or should I have started a sing along?

Hello everyone.

Hi. It looks like we need this. All the political animals have been let loose in the nightclub.

Hi, Georgie. Yeah, I've been looking in regularly hoping to find some light-hearted fun. Not much of that going on lately, here or in my real world. I've been working back into a posting mood, but there hasn't been much going on that really catches my interest. I try to stay away from the serious stuff most of the time, that's not really why I visit here.
Well the sing along I had in mind was the one I posted about hunting. But when I got here there was already that other thread and it fit in nicely there. I had heard it on the radio, WVUD The Voice of the University of Delaware, last Tuesday morning. I figured if I started it here someone (Maus, at least) would have heard of it. But then, when I got here, there was that other thread where it fit in nicely. So, I got two posts out of one idea. Gotta love that. I considered dragging Eating Dirt back from the bottom of page two, but there are so many stories to go in there that I don't know where to start. And if it's anything like real life some people get a bit tired of hearing nothing but skydiving stories from me.

Well, come around often so that it will not be taken over by a few political animals.

If you're tired of skydiving, why not do downhill skiing? I was watching the winter sports and skiing last night. It's great seeing the Norwegians and the Austrians fly off the thing, whatever they call that.

Oh, I'm not tired of skydiving. Shocked It's just that some folks are tired of me telling them about it. Huh Personally, I can't wait until my next jump. Hopefully that will be on March 11.
I noticed your count when I was looking at the pictures you posted. Making emperor isn't something to just think about, it's something to post about.

How does one make sure that the parachute opens in time? Is it attached to the plane by some hook?

There is a system in which the ripcord is attached to the plane. It's called static line. However, that is not what I do. I wear an altimeter on my left wrist that tells me my altitude above ground level. According to the restrictions of my A License (the first of four basic levels) I must deploy my parachute at no less than 3,000 feet above ground level. This is usually after a sixty second freefall. Deployment consists of throwing out a small pilot chute that is stowed at the bottom of my backpack. That small chute in turn pulls the main closing pin that allows my main parachute to open. Of course, this in no way guarantees that the main chute will open correctly or in time to prevent a bone crushing impact with the earth. But that's why we train for emergencies and wear a reserve. Smiley

Oooooh, this is feeling a lot like an Eating Dirt post. And the start of the jumping season is only two weeks away! Grin

They call that a "ski jump."

I always think I'm going to go in there and catch up on every jump I've done. However, that's not really likely to happen since I've made about 50 jumps since the last report. But I couldat least post the highlights of some of the more memorable ones. That would rescue the thread from page three of The Night Club and maybe give us more to post about.

As long as I'm catching up....

Sorry TeamStar, the only video I have of my jumps is the very first one and it's on tape. I have asked at the dropzone about getting it transferred to dvd, but I don't know how big that file will be. No doubt, too big to post here. I posted one picture of my first jump. It's on page 10 of Eating Dirt. It's an image link, but don't bother clicking. That old site of mine is dead and gone.

I took a camera with me on my first jump with my own gear, but the pictures didn't turn out very good. I did post one on page 29.

Light-hearted fun for Privateer0. Perhaps you know other folks who have invented new ways of "eating dirt?"

Elections? Who needs elections?!

I've always wondered what it was like to jump. Me and my roommate planned to do that for a while, but never got to it. And now I'm not sure I want to do it for fear of worrying those close to me too much. But the concept is still fascinating. Smiley

So, Railnut, what IS it like?  Wink

I think Railnut can't answer anything else than "you'll have to try it to know". So, you and your roommate stop finding excuses and jump! Cheesy

LOL. Nooo. It's extremely dangerous for me to do now. And I'm not referring to the fact that I'd be falling out of an airplane and plunging a few kilometers down, either. I'm talking about the fact that my girlfriend will hurt me once I land!  Wink

Once, one of my girlfriend's MOTHER jumped. She wanted me to jump to, but I said no. I guess she wanted to embarrass me... Angry I didn't marry her daughter to retaliate.
