I had two gold mines built about ten years ago.  I built a Jewelry Factory 2 years ago.  I'm making no profits.  The Jewelry factory has no input while the gold mine is about making 20,000 combined.  The factory has been upgraded to all the possibilities and is well supplied with electricity.  I have two teamster buildings.  Why won't my factory produce any jewelry and profits?  The RSPC's or whatever cost me 14,000 a year, its a major economic drawback but i make my industrialists happy when i have.  Papaya, Gold, and corn are the only good things that i ahve on the island.

I am not sure but I think it takes a little while for the workers to learn how to make the jewelery. I have had the same problem - then all of a sudden I looked and It was making a profit - (one of the up-grades is the guild where they learn faster?)  Good luck - and make sure the wages are good - but I don't think they need to be any higher than some of the other  'educated' folks?!...

Angry
My jewelry factory isn't working either. I'm betting it's a bug.

The factory has been built for six or seven years now, and each year its output level fluctuates between about 1 and 6. It has all the improvements except the fine jewelry one, with housing and a (third, half-full) teamster office right across the street. The factory's income level is 0 for both current year and lifetime, and the net profit (lifetime) is -48,000.

Argh! Please fix this or else explain what I'm doing wrong. I sure can't see what it is.

In one of the scenerios I played I did get the jewelry factory making mucho pesos.  I placed it rather close to the gold mine..the teamsters picked it up at the mine and did a drop off and didn't need to take a nap afterward.

It took about 3 or 4 Tropico years for the jewery workers to gain experience. I also found you had to have a full compliment of workers in the factory to crank out those charm bracelets and earrings for Home Shopping Club.

I with you on that Cruiseden. I always have a jewellery factory, so long as there is gold to mine.

They make a loss for a few years, but after that they pump out the $. One thing though, the anti-pollution edict can cripple it, so be wary.  Smiley

Anti-pollution edict? I wonder if that's what's causing the problem...

My factory finally started working, but then stopped again for no apparent reason. Maybe it was that edict. I'll have to check it out. Thanks!

How I made money with my jewelry factory was to place it as close to the gold mine as possible, and get all the upgrades as soon as possible. After about 6 years or so, I was at a
-$70,000 profit, then, wham, it became a money making unit. I was ready to bulldoze it real soon, glad I didn't   Smiley

Jewelry Factory needs:
  • Gold ore delivered to input queue
    • Mine output picked up and
    • Carried to Factory rather than to Port
      • Miners and\or Teamsters will make the shortest trip possible
      • Trip from Mine to Factory must be shorter than trip from Mine to Port
  • Employees actually at work
    • Factory must be staffed
      • Factory without workers will produce only what one unskilled worker would
    • Workers must actually be in building to produce more than no workers
  • Output picked up, delivered to Port, loaded on ship
The original poster's problem sounds like the mine output was going directly to the Port rather than to the factory.

Caution: The mine will eventually exhaust the ore. That event is not evident from the animation, i.e. the miners keep on working but there is no output. So the player has to monitor the output - especially when the pit is really deep.

My advice: The player needs to be experienced in estimating the amount of ore available in balance with the investment needed for the fully elaborated factory. Otherwise it is easy to run out of ore just as your factory is ready to go full production.
