hello. The instruction booklet states on page 11:

"The folder on the desk contains a number of dossiers of people who have desired at some point to rule an island such as tropico. Please choose the one that most accurately reflects you."

So, how do I get to this option? I cant seem to find it anywhere in game or in the options. Clicking on the folder on the desk does nothing. What am I missing here?

I believe the booklet means fictional or theoretical "people" in Tropico's faux history. When you create your persona, you become one of them.

I thought that just refered to the dossiers that you see on the desk next to the actual folder.  You can choose to play any one of the dictators that are shown, with characteristics similar to their own.  Or you can choose any dictator's dossier, then edit the background, rise to power, characteristics and flaws to create your own.

Welp, I found it. Seems you can't have a dossier if you play a scenario. You need to make a random map, then and only then will the game let you pick your characteristics and such. Wish they would have made this more clear in the in instruction booklet.

One thing I've been afraid to attempt is changing the name of the dictator.  When you click on the name under the photo, you have the option to change the dictator's name.  What I'm curious about is does this name change become the "default" name change forever, or is it only for that particular game and it will revert back to the original the next time you create a random map game?

Anyone know?  Huh

If not you, then who? If not now, then when?

No Brian, it doesn't hurt anything at all.  It just seems to reset to the original name after every game.
