I've got a huge hole from a 50 year old gold mine that I have since leveled.
A few trees are starting to grow in this area.
It is near my tourist area.
Are there any particular buildings that may benefit from being built in a big hole?
Fountains?
Fill it up with flowers?
Or should I just shut my hole and keep playing?

Doesn't sugarcane like to grow in wet areas (ie. holes)? Or does the ground stay too polluted even after mining stops?

I have seen Tropicans erect their own shacks right in the middle of an operating bauxite pit. I'm not sure I understand the thinking since there was other available space nearby, but the miners seemed happy enough to continue digging away even with the shack right there.

Yes sugarcane grows in wet areas. I'm more inclined to make it into a mini garden. Look pretty and gets rid of the pollution too.

Re. the shacks on mining area, they don't mine under the shacks but I have seen some times when the shacks sort of prevented them from digging the surrounding area. ie the shack shouldn't sink, so they didn't dig the ground around it.

Has anyone else noticed this?

The best use I can think of for the old  hole is to continue mining the ore there that caused it in the first place.

Madame's suggestion to make it look pretty is a good one.

Other than shack land, old mining areas are pretty useless. For some reason, no matter how deep the hole is, it doesn't become a wet area even up against the beach.

My advice is to use the editor and level it. Planting grass woundn't hurt either.

If you order a building to be placed overhanging the edge the construction workers fill the hole in before begining the new building. You can then cancel the building or not. It's a good way of re-mining an area when the hole gets too steep and slows production down too much.

And here I thought this thread was going to explain the benefits of firing those 50-year old women I keep finding working at the Cabaret...

Evenin!

   Okay, let's think this thru...

You have a cabaret with 50+ year old women...

You want real life examples?  Cheri's at 30th and Leavenworth in Omaha NE.  Showgirls I in Fort Wayne IN.  I could go on, but then I would have to vomit profusely...

   Happy Happy!  (I think...)
