Can someone give a list of the requirements for running the factories?
Whenever I build a factory, it never makes me profit.

hi Sancho:

Factories are kind of tricky. Here are some hints that might help.

Basically you should have enough raw material for the factory to work with. Two sources of raw material per factory is generall a good guideline. The exception is the lumber mill, it can manage on one logging camp with the improvments implemented.

Don't expect to make any profit the first few years you build a factory. Plus you will take a hit in your exports because the raw material will no longer be exported. It takes a while before the factories start producing.

Implement any improvments you can to  the factory. They will speed up production.

If you have an airport and foreign ministry, you should try to send trade delegations frequently to up the prices of your finished goods.

The industrial advertisement edict which you can use once you have a television station raises your export prices for a short while. This also helps.

Lastly, make sure that your factory workers live close to the factory. The factory will produce as much as one worker's output when there are no workers in it, but the more the workers, the better the production.

Hope that helps. Smiley

Remember, your factory workers need to have a high school education. Make sure you have a steady stream of high school graduates to replace those factory workers you die. Usually, this isn't a problem, unless you have many factories and a low population. Only the naturally sharp cookies will want to go to high school.

Good advice!
Don't forget to put a marketplace close by as well, so the workers don't have to go far away to get food.

Cheers

Evenin!

I wish there was some edict that would install 'Motivation thru fear', where you would shoot some Teamster slash Construction slash Dockworker, and it would make them all work.

Not work faster, but just work.  I'm not greedy...

And I could live with the small hit on liberty that you would take...

dont let factories fool you, you never loose as much cash as it says you do. the only money it cost to keep a factory running is the upkeep of the factory and the workers wages. the resources that they show as a negative is really just $ that hasnt been refined into a more exspensive product
