Security Increased Around Miami Hospital
Terror Grips Small Caribbean Island

PEURTO AÑEJO CITY (AP)
As a midnight shutdown of all routes into and out of Tropico island approaches, media and political advisors have journeyed to the nearby island of Peurto Añejo where an emergency meeting on current developments is scheduled for Wednesday.

Members of the notorius "Mr.P Cabinet" have gathered at the exclusive Emerald Isle Resort & Casino here in Peurto Añejo City to discuss their options in light of the current developments on Tropico island.  After a cave-in on the island left one miner in critical condition, and the recent disappearance of Caddet, new developments have been disclosed which could link the mysterious "CowOnCrack" who has been suspciously absent from these meetings, and today announced that he will be "leaving", with no indication as to his return or his whereabouts.

In Miami, security around the Dade County Memorial Hospital has been increased, and a specially equipped helicopter is being flown in to transport the miner, "Spike", to an as of yet undisclosed hospital.  Sources within the hospital would not comment on where the victim is being transported to, but said that it would be to a hospital outside of the United States and would be done during the night.

In the hopes of resolving this escalating situation, the members of the "Mr.P Cabinet" have schedule a dinner meeting for Wednesday evening about the cruise ship Añejo Sunset which is run by the Emerald Isle Corporation of Peurto Añejo.  The Añejo Sunset has been chosen because it is not linked to the luxurious ships owned by Caddet.  The ship will leave port tomorrow evening and sail to an undisclosed location in the Caribbean.

In related news, riots and gunfire have filled the streets of Tropico as fear of the impending government investigation grows.  The final planes have, as of this writing, left the island and the last ship to be granted clearance has left the port.  Ironicaly, this last ship is the Añejo Sunset which has been called into service to extract 30 French and English tourists left on the island.

Well, I'm sure not about to leave.  Just because some of the rabble are influenced by this mysterious delphiakid doesn't mean solid dependable government workers are affected.

As for the, ahem, allegations that some of us are bought with titles and medals, well all I can say is "piffle".  All of my titles were fairly obtained as defined in the "Tropico Government Civil Service Manual" and all procedures were duly followed.

As for the medal, well, when someone with a rather suspiciously large knowledge of tanks offers you a medal, then, well, you'd better polish it and wear it proudly.  Although I must say it goes very well with my eyes.

Yes, the people in the streets are having their say!
They are starting to see the light of deception brought by the powers in charge!
eddy@work, I do not mean to be mean, but when you listen to their "Tropico Government Civil Service Manual" you become a pawn to their games, you must be you own man and stand up for what you believe in! I saw that other post, do not tell me that is what you really want.
Now CowonCrack has gone, too. All of these disappearances are adding up, we know something is up now!
We have several demands, on the poor living conditions we have to endure because of your filthy incompetence and greed, and here is our list:
The down in our pillows is of inferior quality.
The day-old bread (two loaves for a $1.00) is stale.
The tourists don't tip as much (heck, there are no tourists now).
Selma's girls are looking scuzzy.
The tank in the living room just doesn't fit the baroque decor of your hovel.
"The weather is here I wish you were beautiful
My thoughts aren't too clear but don't run away
My girlfiend's a bore, my job is too dutiful "
The dishwasher doesn't remove all the grease, because the water is not the proper 140 degrees.
The girls don't find me attractive, even though I am still a virgin -- unless I tell them I am gay (darn, how did that get in), but oh yeah, there is no homosexuality in Tropico! So you see, there is no chance for me! (calming down)
Sunday Mass is still mandatory (so, the Secret Police have an hour to bug my home).
We are continuously denied entrance to the tourist's beach, so we can not enjoy the high-class female tourists enjoing our beach.
And maybe we do need no stinking Yanquis.
I am tired of getting high from eating dinner -- the promise was "a chicken in every pot," not "pot in every chicken"--what is this, mind control?
That, and Spike still hasn't appeared publically.

Maybe tomorrow our little "street party" will be more organized, and then you will see more of our vision.

[steps back and rejoins the rabble]

Injured Miner Moved To Secret Location
Cabinet Members Prepare For Meeting
[/b]

MIAMI (AP)  At 11:30 a.m. a representative for the owners of a tropical mine where a cave-in trapped the now famous miner, known only as “Spike”, issued the following statement:

“We are disturbed the course of events which have followed the cave-in on the island.  Several of the owners were not even aware that an accident had occurred, and not until media attention was focused on the rescue attempt did the owners agree to meet to discuss their possible liabilities in this matter.  The mine, as you know, is a profitable source of gold and bauxite.  The mine supplies much of the bauxite that is turned into aluminum in factories in the southeastern United States, while the gold is shipped to Europe where it is turned into jewelry.  Our interest in this case are both financial and humanitarian, since we have had no update on the status of the individual who was trapped in the mine.  We do not, however, have any record of a miner named “Spike” on our payroll, and have consulted with our foreman on the island to learn that there were no workers scheduled to be in the mine at the time of the cave-in.”

Sources in Miami reported that the miner “Spike” was moved during the night to an undisclosed location.  His condition has not been revealed and officials at the Dade County Memorial Hospital are not commenting.  Camera crews on the scene were blocked by police from taking any photographs of the cave-in victim, although a cancelled press conference with hospital staff has been rescheduled for tomorrow.

In related news, the panic which has struck the small island of Tropico has quieted during the day, as police and soldiers attempted to calm the crowds gathered around the presidential palace.  Schools and businesses were closed and all citizens were urged to
remain at home.  The government has not made an official statement on the next step they will take in their investigations, but it has said that a state of martial law will remain on the island until further notice.  As a result of the closure of Tropico island to the outside world, the tourism industry has frantically begun rerouting travelers to new destinations throughout the Caribbean, although the closure of the island combined with the recent Comair Airlines strike has begun to put a strain on Caribbean tourism.

The cabinet of Dictator “Mr.P” has assembled on the nearby island of Puerto Añejo.  An emergency meeting will be held tomorrow aboard the cruise ship Añejo Sunset in the hopes of finding a solution to this crisis.  Many members of the cabinet hold political and
financial interest in Tropico island and are hoping that they can return to business as usual very soon.  One source close to the delegates has informed us that several of the members are anxious to learn more about the mysterious “Spike” and his involvement in
these events.  An open invitation has been extended to all members to attend the dinner tomorrow night, but at this time not all delegates have arrived.

“It is unclear if everyone is concerned about the same issue,” reported Cram, a key advisor from the Department of Educated Guesses.  “Everyone wants to know how a seemingly random event like a cave-in could have erupted into such a political disaster.  We know there is a connection between the cave-in and the disappearance of Caddet, but we don’t know what that connection is!  We’re hoping that this meeting will shed some light on the topic.”

On Tropico island, rebel forces have begun to make demands of the government through their apparent leader, known only as “Delphiakid”.  Rumors are now also surfacing that US Government workers may be involved in a plot to overthrow the Tropico government, and that these workers are attempting to quiet suspicion by creating needless piles of paperwork to be completed in triplicate and filed.  Several government agencies are currently under investigation for possibly accepting bribes and gifts from leaders of the Tropico government.  The members of the Mr.P Cabinet will not comment on these allegations, but have suggested that they cannot discuss these issues effectively until all three Tropico dictators are present.

Hey all - I hate to feel as if I'm "posting in the wind".  I don't know how I got started with these "articles" but I'm enjoying writing them... I'm just curious if anybody is reading them (except for Delphia and Eddy who are playing along).  Feedback and comments would be appreciated.  Should I keep it up?  Thanks!  Smiley

Brian, you're filling in wonderfully for the absent Caddet.  Do you have a degree in journalism or have you been hanging out with Julia.  Wink  Oh, sorry Caddet, hope you're not listening.

I managed to sneak into the secret location where Spike is being held and though he is unable to speak yet, he slipped me this note:

Quote

I am hoping that instead of these silly gause badages that cover me head to toe, you will have them use yankee dollars to wrap my many wounds!
Regards,
Spike

So at least his mind is clear, if his body is a mess.  Hope this encourages everyone out there rooting for Spike.

*eddyatwork looks around some of his subordinate's desk during lunch break*

What in the world?!?

Hmm...I'd better make a few copies of this and forward them to the dictators.  I wonder who on the island can read Cyrillic?

whirrr...whirrr...whirrr...  There, some copies made, now I'll mail these, and put the original back on the desk.  Wait a minute!  I don't remember hiring anyone new, yet there are three new desks here.

The nameplates read

Viktor Ivanoff
Alexa Badenov
Boris Chernenko

This case is getting stranger and stranger.

Your police have detained several of my compatriots the previous night in dispersing our group.  In fact, I saw my brother's cousin's third uncle's son particually roughed up.
These events were not created by the "cave-in", the cave-in was created by your increased aphaty on our conditions.  That and the fact that we have lost our leader Spike. Then, you demand money from us to "heal" him.
Also, why was my group not invited to your meeting.  Is it that you do not recognize our existance as a group?  We are good enough to fall in mines for you but not to speak?
My "Daddy shucked that sugar cane,
One day he fell dead"
Why should the same fate await us?

That, and I am still skeptical of any news until I actually see Spike. These supposed "notes" are becoming tiresome, all I see is lies from those in power.

Maybe what eddy@work is finding, will give us some clues on who really is running Tropico.

Miner's Condition Improving
Cabinet Members Set Sail While Situation
On Tropico Island Stabilizes

MIAMI (AP)  An edict from the Department Of International Affairs confirmed that the United Nations will not become involved in the situation on Tropico Island.  The island has been under martial law for two days following a mass exodus of tourists and non-native civilians, and officials refuse to comment on when martial law will be lifted.  Hotel chains, historical sites and recreational parks are closed until further notice.  It is unclear how this action is related to the near-fatal cave-in which occurred on the island a few days ago, but government officials state that a full investigation into the cave-in is underway, and island security cannot be compromised by allowing foreign influence to interfere.  This morning, a Russian gunship, the Baltic Sea, was steaming towards the island.  It is unknown if this is a show of force from the Russian government, fearing for embassy workers unable to escape the island before the curfew a few days ago, or if the pro-Communist members of the island government solicited the aid of the former Soviet Union in this matter.

Citizens on the island detained for questioning will be released "after they are carefully screened for details in the circumstances surrounding the cave-in", stated a member of the Tropican police department.  The combined forces of the CIA and FBI are investigating similar cave-ins in Cancun, Jamaica, and Puerto Rico.  A bauxite mine in Puerto Añejo has been closed pending a safety inspection.

In a related story, new information has been disclosed revealing the whereabouts of the miner “Spike”.  He is now believed to be connected to the current state of panic on the island of Tropico, although it is not clear how.  A representative from the Cafe Tropico, a covert information-gathering society, has stated that Spike is recovering from his injuries and will be able to make a statement to the press soon.  This representative, who wished to remain anonymous, has confirmed that Spike was moved from Miami to a private military hospital within the United States.  Although the representative could not comment on the exact location, sources report that security has been increased around several military hospitals in the Washington D.C. area.  Doctors at Dade County General Hospital refused to comment on this report, stating that they are unaware of Spike’s location or his current condition.  One doctor did comment that during his stay in Miami, Spike was at times “delusional” and may be suffering a mild case of amnesia.

In other news, the cruise ship Añejo Sunset set sail this evening for an undisclosed location off the coast of Florida.  A spokesperson for Dictator Mr.P, former general for the Tropican army, stated “we are hopeful that the emergency meeting will shed light on the strange happenings in Tropico, and solve some of the mysteries... such as the complete shut-down of the island, the disappearance of Caddet and CowonCrack, and just who ‘Spike’ really is!”  The cabinet members, assorted staff and advisors, boarded the Añejo Sunset early this afternoon, and will be attending a dinner meeting tonight.

Cram, who has recently been promoted to Primary German Interpreter for the Department of Educated Guesswork, said that the department is intercepting several coded messages from various locations within Europe, which seem to be intended for Tropico island.  It is uncertain if these messages are linked to the rebel “Delphiakid”, who is suspected in an attempted overthrow of the Tropican government.  Delphiakid reportedly holds resentment towards the “Mr.P Cabinet” for being excluded from this evening’s dinner meeting.  Mr.P’s spokesperson admitted that Delphiakid was not on the guest list, but claims this was as a result of paperwork error, and that Delphiakid’s insights would have been appreciated by the entire cabinet.  Eddyatwork, a top ranking administrator for the government, stated that he is investigating this situation, and will present his findings when he returns from the meeting.

In a seemingly unrelated incident, fire destroyed the construction site for the new Department of Educated Guesswork in Puerto Añejo.  The building was only twenty-five percent completed and laborers on the scene said that the fire was caused by faulty electrical wiring.  The Director of Educated Guesses could not be reached for comment, but one member of his staff reported that the Director is not so certain that the fire was an accident.

Right, my invitation was “lost” in the paperwork…just like Spike was “lost” in the mine, like Caddet is “lost” from public view, like the newly found papers by eddy@work was “loss” in the fire.
The only thing I see that is “loss”, hombre, is your control of the situation!!!
I see you guys have started to lose control, and so you start by shutting some of us up (by disappearances), then you lose control more (with the street riots) so you install martial law in the streets of our once peaceful island, and now, since you are continuing to lose control, you have ran to your big boat, in the comfort of your own surroundings, hoping that we can not get to you.

But we will, we already have some more nice news. I hear that there are others, that you don’t even have control of your own cabinet anymore. That some are targeting others for assassination.  And we have nothing to do with this one.
So watch it, or you may have your own “Cuban Crime of Passion” which shall be “messy and old fashioned--yeah that’s what the papers did say.”

And whose to say that the Russian Ship is not coming on your plea to help.  Is it because you know you cannot handle the current crisis? Why do you assume that we have anything to do with it?  Is it not the guilty that makes accusations first (actually I should probably scratch that one). But still, I think you need help more than us right now.

Except that I still want not your news, but I actually want to see Spike.

Miner Taken During Covert Operations[/size]
Cabinet Member Injured Aboard Cruise Ship
Soviet Presence Increases Off Tropico's Coast

BETHESDA, MD (AP) - Insiders at the U.S. National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda have confirmed that Spike, the miner rescued from a cave-in on Tropico island, is missing.  At approximately 11:28 pm military vehicles surrounded the hospital and moments later the mysterious "miner", still wrapped in bandages from injuries sustained in the cave-in, was taken from the hospital and rushed to Dulles International Airport where he boarded a chartered 767.  Reacting to a tip from sources at the Tropico Times, news crews began to surround the hospital located in Bethesda, Maryland.  Hopsital staff were alerted to the incoming media barrage and an undisclosed government agency moved in to move the miner to a secret location.

Our staff has been in contact with the Tropico Times in an attempt to consolidate our information and we hope to able to prepare a press conference by this weekend.  At this time, no staff from either hospital involved in this case has been willing to offer a statement on the bizarre circumstances surrounding this case.  You can view the latest edition of the "Tropico Times" at http://skyboom.com/kdwright/TropicoTimes.html.

In related news, a Coast Guard helicopter was summonded to the cruise ship Añejo Sunset just after nine o'clock this evening.  Preliminary reports are sketchy, but indicate that a guest aboard the ship, possibly a high ranking member of the infamous "Mr.P Cabinet" has been injured.  The Añejo Sunset is continuing on it's voyage and now plans to sail north to dock in New York on Sunday night.  The helicopter has not returned from the cruise ship but authorities are stating that there is a fully trained medical crew on board the copter and that they may be performing emergency surgery on the ship, if necessary.

Authorities in Puerto Añejo are now worried by the presence of a second Russian warship off their shores.  The ships are strategically positioned to block aid to nearby Tropico island, but officials on Puerto Añejo are fearful that the ship's presence may aggrevate already unstable conditions on Tropico.  Police and military authorities on both islands are now searching for the rebel "Delphiakid" but fear he may have already fled to the U.S.[/color]

To the Ministers and Dictators of Tropico:

Well, this is getting worse and worse as I go along.

I have found fairly strong evidence that there is Soviet involvement in the bureaucracy.  Apparently they have generated incredible amounts of bogus regulations and forms to bog down administrative affairs in a sea of red (heh heh) tape.

Furthermore, I have seen deliberate attempts to sabotage the economic assets of the nation and of the wealthy business class.  I can only speculate that this is to drive the price of stocks and commodities down in order to make a hostile takeover easy.  This may also destabilize the international monetary balance as well although this is only idle speculation and should not be taken as an educated guess.

Further with that last point, I have checked with some friends in the Tropican financial sector who shall remain anonymous who have seen large blocks of industrial stocks being purchased by foreign investors.  This cannot be healthy for the economy.

Even more disturbing is the obvious tampering with communications lines.  In addition to "scheduled outages" at odd hours, there seems to be deliberate cutting of lines to the American embassy and to other American interests.

Clearly this plot is more complex than I expected.  My efforts to investigate are being hampered by the dissappearance of almost 2/3rds of my staff.  I cannot blame them as there are many soldiers in uniforms I've never seen before roaming around the government complex here.  So far I've been left alone, although they do make crude remarks about useless paperweights in my presence, obviously to frighten me.

This is all the information I am able to give to you.  I'm afraid that conditions are rapidly deteriorating and that if I do not leave for my safehouse I will never get there at all.  I will attempt to provide assistance when I arrive there.

VIVA EL PRESIDENTE!

Your obedient servant,

eddyatwork.

Search all you want, but I will not be found.
I am the cream of your coffie,
I am the cool wind of the night,
I am the shadow of the bright sun,
I am the ripple of the ocean waves,
I am the steam of your kettle,
I am a whole bunch of other cheesey comparsions meant to scare and itiminate you!!!
And while I have alot on you, you have somethings of mine.  You have the whereabouts of Spike, and now as well Caddet.  Or is it not you?  Is it your "ally" Luke pulling all your strings.  Playing your hand for you.
You say Spike has been missing as some type of news flash...he's been missing from his people for the last few weeks! Because I still have not seen Spike publically.
Keep up the good investigating work, eddy@work, and do a good job of hiding yourself, because you can see everyone who thinks they are friends of the government powers, end up missing.  [Jeez, it is getting worst than the Clintons]
Just look at the latest incident on their ship, another "accident" I persume, or has someone started to take you out of your own cabient?
Meanwhile things at our once nice island has gotten bad, we have no tourists, we have bad weather, and we have your martial law.  This is causing
"Parents fighting with their children, and the Congress can't agree
Teachers and their students are all jousting constantly.
Management and labor keep rattling old sabers
Quacking like those Peabody ducks. "

But we still have trust in each other, something I do not think you have anymore.

Hi.  This is a great site!  I've been following this board ever since my sister and I came to Tropico Island, just after Christmas.  I never registered until today, so I want to introduce myself.  I already know most of you quite well.

My name is Rachel.  Though you don't know me, most of you would recognize me, cuz you've seen my picture.  I only registered because I have some messages, and I couldn't post them any other way.

To Mr. BulletSponge:
You posted my picture at the thread you called eye candy.  When I posed for the female rebel character sketches at PopTop, they assured me that my face would be changed enough that I couldn't be recognized.  You should NOT have posted my original picture without permission.  And you shouldn't be so crude in your labels.  Eye Candy is degrading.

To Mr. Brian:
I really like your stories, but you need to check your facts a little better.  You'll see what I mean soon enough.

To Mr. Caddet:
Your "newspaper" is so cute!  You even put in some real stuff, just to make it look real.  But can't you do any better on the way it looks?  It's kind of hard to read, and the font stinks.

To Mr. Delphiakid:
You are right.  Mr. Spike is in danger.  So long as we keep him well hidden, he should be OK.  If we're found, he could be in real trouble.

To anyone else following the disappearances:
It seems that Mr. Spike has really disappeared.  I haven't seen him logged on for quite a while.  Mr. Caddet, on the other hand, was only gone for a few days.  He was on the board again Tuesday night while I was reading, and he's on right now, as I write this note.

For everyone concerned about Mr. Spike:
Relax.  When I read about the worry over the cost of his treatment, I talked to my sister.  You know my sister.  You kicked her off the island a couple weeks ago.  Her name is Pamela.  She and her husband are both doctors.  Since they could get information about a patient like Mr. Spike, they contacted the Naval Hospital and arranged to care for Mr. Spike at a secure location.  I'll be his nurse during his recovery.  Don't worry, he's in good hands now.  We expect that he will be able to use his hands well enough to send a message before the weekend.

As Director of Educated Guessing I cannot place the welfare of my staff or myself in jeopardy by involving us in these mysterious events any longer.  Upon my return from the Añejo Sunset my department will be resuming its normal activities.  I will no longer be posting information pertaining to Spike, Caddet or the cave-in.

We look forward to finding out what is actually happening, but we'll leave the fact-finding to someone else.  We'll stick to the guesswork we love. Smiley

Sincerely,
Brian

Well, Rachel, I have very limited methods for accomplishing the publication of the paper.  The biggest limit is my computer skills.  By the time I could learn the stuff I need to know to do this right, the game would be out.  Then it would be pointless.  Sorry if you can't read it.  I could e-mail you the files.  They seem to be more readable before my web site gets them.

Heh, heh.  Don't worry Caddet.  Newspapers are supposed to be hard to read.  It looks more authentic that way.  I like it.

And to Rachel, welcome to the board.  You seem to know too much for your own good.  I would watch your back if I were you, and don't associate with that rebel Delphiakid.  He's one of those Penguinvanians you know.   Roll Eyes

Watch this one, fellows.  I think she may have some secret affiliation with Spike besides being just his nurse.  In fact, maybe she is even posting on his behalf.  Maxim, what's your theory?

I was right to be afraid.  Even Brian has suddenly backed off.  First he was asking if anyone actually read this, which I think was an early cry for help.  Now he suddenly is just dropping things without even an explanation.  Maybe it was those "military advisors" I saw before I evacuated.

I've heard some whispers that Spike is still alive, but let's just say that only the parrots in the trees know who told me.  I will not give up the fight, but it would be prudent to remain in hiding for a while.

All I will say is that if those russian spooks try to change the toner in the photocopier, they'll get a big surprise.  Heh heh heh.  And there are other little pleasantries too that they will encounter.  Just because I am a cowardly flatulent dictator (wannabe) doesn't mean I can't engage in guerilla warfare.

So Pamela and her family are 'treating' Spike. Are they, in any way, responsible for the cave-in or his actual disappearence, or did they just come on the scene later on?

What are you plans Rachel? Has Spike done something to offend you or your sister? You do realise it was not just he who wished to boot your flaunty sister off the island. You really should not take our disliking of your sisters (or your) looks to heart, you personally have two wonderful contributions to make to society as does your sister.

You or your sister don't happened to be married to someone called 'Bulletsponge' do you? I understand he has a liking for the female members of your family and even sponsored your sister when she visited.

Shed some light on the subject Rachel, if that is in fact your real name........

The plot thickens, for the first time in my life I am at a lost! I did not see this coming!
Brian, don't back out, don't run scared from this post like everyone else! Are you to say, you too are afraid of your own governmental forces?
But I can not blame you.
I have notice a newer state of panic, a "Desperation Samba" out there.
So now I see there is a
"Full moon in my eyes
I wonder how in the [heck] I got here
Without a disguise
Should I take this last step
or turn myself around
or follow my intuition into that border town"

And so I do....
Welcome Rachel, we are in a time of mass hysteria!
It is nice to see another person lying about where they have Spike. Because, as I have said before, I still have not seen proof of Spike, because I have not actually seen him.
So what are you plans, who are you allied with?  I would think twice if I would try to ally with the government.  Look at the previous people who fell. First Spike, then Caddet, then CoC, then ... you?
I could happen, so you better watch.
And we still don't know who was the latest to get hurt on the cruse ship.

[now you must look at the sky, for it is time to say good-bye]
