Well, I'm disoriented...

« on: 10/03/01 at 05:33 PM »

Hello all...
I guess...I just don't know where to start.  I made a fool of myself yesterday, and I will never forget that.  I was considering leaving the board for a while, but I have to set this to rights first.  The only thing that I could do worse than creating this whole problem is to further it by running away from it.
I'm sorry for the mess I caused.  I got overly competitive, and tried too hard, yes, but there is truly no excuse.  I cannot plead ignorance, because I understood at least part of the situation before I began posting.
I'm sorry for causing whoever has boycotted this board as a result of my actions to leave.  I implore that you will return, I will make sure that it never happens again.
I'm sorry for putting up one word posts and...mindless drivel...(yes, I remember using that phrase a long time ago when I was but a high-minded peasant)
And most of all, I'm sorry for souring people on the board.  It should be fun, but I fear I took that away from many of you.
If there is any way for me to gain your forgiveness, I will try...
If you want me to, I will delete this account, to begin with.  I do not know how much it will be worth to me, having the emperorhood that Joe so aptly referred to as a cardboard crown.

Timmy,

Apology accepted!  (it was very sweet!)

We're all guilty of irrelevant dribble to some extent here....so don't delete your account.  You're very welcome to play with the rest of us (if I can be so bold as to speak for all)....

I've called off the cannibals.  Will you turn off the bludgeonator now so I can come out of hiding?

Timmy.......first and foremost...apology accepted. Secondly...it was more then just one person...it became the in thing to do out here for a few days. Forget the cardboard crown...its only a title and only means you have posted alot... that and a buck will get you on the subway. No need to go deleting your account. At points the majority has to stand up and say no more...and thats what we did...we put our foot down...its called policing ourselves...and is the sign of a strong community.
With all that said....pooooooooooooost away .....in moderation..LOLOL!!!

An apology is due from me too.

I encouraged Timmy by egging him on. I also resorted to some bogus posts as well. After making that big speech as a peasant that I would not resort to such tactics, I did it anyway. That was hipocritical of me. Hipocracy is dishonorable. When all is said and done in this world a man has only his word and his honor. I take these things seriously.

Numerous posts have also mentioned that my heavy handedness is disturbing. That, unfortunately, is the culture I chose to live in. My world has always been harsh. I picked it, I'll live with it. Obviously not all people subscribe to that philosophy. This board is for your enjoyment, not your torment. I will not be changing my feathers at this stage of life. Therefore I must leave. I will finish the work on the poll, post it, and turn it all over to Robbo to send to PT. He will let you know what and if they respond.

Thank you for your time.

Timmy, that was honorably spoken, and your contrition seems sincere. As they say, repentance is the first step to forgiveness.
While I hardly feel worthy to pass judgement on anyone, I do forgive you as well.
If I were your confessor, I would assign you the penance of going back and finding all your one-word posts and removing them.  Cheesy
But I'm nobody's confessor, so obviously that's entirely up to you. Wink

I've seen this same thing happen on a dozen different message boards. People get caught up in the frenzy and sort of take leave of their senses for a while. Eventually they get ahold of themselves, everyone settles down and things get back to normal (relatively speaking Wink ).
I'm glad to see you're returning to an even keel.
Welcome back. Smiley

Junta_Joe:
I'll try to keep this simple. Please don't leave.

I've learned so much from you; both in the game-related boards, where your insight and strategies have helped immeasurably in my effectiveness and enjoyment of the game, and in the OT threads where you've provided many an illuminating glimpse into aspects of life which most of us will never experience, but sorely need to be aware of.

We need opinions from all points of the spectrum to form a well-rounded and considered world view. Personally, I find your perspective to be every bit as valid and authoritative as those of your polar opposites on this board.
Nothing carries as much weight as the voice of experience; it takes force on both sides of the beam to keep the scales in balance.

I know this board is nominally about Tropico, but here I've also gleaned much knowledge about politics and attitudes around the world, as well as a much-needed smile or hearty laugh during the times of leisure or loneliness.

Besides, if I may quote from the Holy Scripture (i.e. "Monty Python's Big Red Book"):
There's no point in taking any of this seriously, you know. Wink

We've all made our share of bogus posts (except for MadamPresident, but she's a special case Wink ).
We've all had our moments of hypocrisy.
We've already lost too many bright and convivial minds from this forum.

Say it ain't so, Joe.
Please, don't go.

I feel guilty at this point.  As you all know, for the past few weeks Joe and I have not at all been getting along.  We've had quite a few arguements that have taken the turn for the worst in our relationship.  Recently he has decided not to speak to me and in return I have made a foolish comment that may have further ruined the situation.  Joe, if I have had any part in your descision to leave, please let me know... let us all know.  If it will in anyway make you reconsider your resolve, I will make a public apology to you...

I am also willing to take the blame for the recent events that have cast a shadow between not only our relationship, but also that which you share with others.

I'm truly sorry.

I will now leave this thread to create an apology thread.  Embarrassed Cry

Timmy,
It has been brought to my attention, and rightly so, that I have singled you out while expressing my anger about the recent spate of frivolous postings. At a time when several of the forum's members were engaged in the very same activities as you, I only unleashed my anger in your direction. No matter the status of these other members, no matter how many times I've seen the board go through the same things in the past, and regardless of my reasons for singling you out, my actions were wrong. I know that I was wrong and I know that I must apologise. It is the only right thing for me to do, and I should have done so long before now. I am sorry for my actions and angry words towards you. I'm a grown man, and despite my sometimes volatile temper, I should have known better. I should never have singled out you, or anyone else, to bear the brunt of my anger. I hope that you will accept my apology, even at this late date.
I also know that it couldn't have been easy for you to apologise. For this I have a deeper respect for you.
I will also now apologise to every member of the forum for my words and actions and any part that they may have had in precipitating the uneasiness and unpleasant debates that have come to pass. To all of you, I am sorry.
However, I will not let this chase me away from the community that I have come to enjoy so much. It doesn't help us when we lose long standing and respected members, or any members for that matter, as we have recently. It saddens me to see them go.
Again to everyone, and especially Timmy, my sincerest apologies.

I think that considering all that has gone on over the past few weeks in the world, we're all under quite a bit of stress, whether we recognize it or not. This seems to be showing itself here in the form of little hissy fits - has anyone noticed how many of us jumped up and down last week and screamed about something?  (myself included)

So, to all who are saying they're sorry - it's ok....I'm sorry for having my hissy fit also - but you know....I'm glad we were able to vent among friends and have them remain friends.  What's the old saying? A friend is someone who knows who you really are and still likes you.....

And now I think it's time for a big ol' group hug.... Grin
