Well of course you remembered it oh "Anciwent One".  I agree with against Date Ranking. Why, Morticcia would probably be a Peasant or Rebel, and she's contributed a LOT to the forums. The way I see it, keep as is, or keep it on Member Profile. |

One thing that people have left out is that the current ranking system works as a motivator! In order to get to a higher rank, you must pooooooost. For those who abuse the poooooosting, well, i believe it was already mentioned. But anyway, it encourages us to take a more active role in the forum.

Ok, this is very simple.
Ranks mean that people (even peasants and tourists) post.
When they post, I get to paddle! People get to yell various pro-rebel and anti-rebel slogans. Other people yell misleading and often conflicting advice to the rebels and to me. Still others set up betting pools on mean tiome between paddling, method of rebel discovery, the number of kicks in the ribs Bast and Aphrodite use to wake me up, and the exact paddle I use.
Add in the merchandising, television rights, video game sales, and the ever important strawberry fizzy industry and it is clear that the ranks must continue!

(This is a modified re-post from another thread:)Two issues: 1) I just found the mini-poll, and noticed that there was no alternative for my opinion about ranking: Keep the ranking, a good ranking system tells visitors something about the credibility of a posting from a member. One way is to base the ranking on a combination of; a) time as a member. (longer is better) b) number of posts that add some substance to the board or discussion. Posts that are there just to say hi and add another posting to the members count shouldn't. (more substancial posts is better) c) number of substantial postings during the last week (or other suitable time frame). Motivation: a) tells if the member can behave him/her-self and not be thrown off the list. b) tells if the members postings are worth reading, and adds some credibility to the member. c) tells if the member has been active lately. There are several passive members, that rarely contribute but enjoys reading what other think. Some of these have been active in the past... 2) Here are somesuggestions for an updated title system. The "points" roughly represents the current number of postings, but should rater be a function of the factors mentioned above. I like how you used the different jobs. Take the current rank of Peasant that the board has now. "Peasant" seems like such a depressing name. How about "Commoner"? Yours are much more fun. Hmmmm, about the showgirl thing though.

Nonsense postings add nothing and should therefore not be counted. The real problem is to filter out which postings that qualify. Adding the time factor as well (together with the "Retiree" attribute) should also act like a damper on to useless postings. An induced rate of valuable postings is nothing to stem, but a welcome addition to an otherwise slow message board. (Just check out the "Scenario Editor" section to find out what I mean.) 2) We could always replace her with ... A Lumberjack! "... jumping from tree to tree in the mighty redwoods of British Columbia, with my best girl by my side..." Nudge, nudge, say no more...!  Oh, and if gender is a problem, then we'd better remove soldiers, priests and bishops as well... Cheers Olle |
