Hail to the Sovereign, The Lord General Pinochet

« on: 08/06/01 at 03:04 PM »

I "arrested" the leader of the Enviromentalists. I had like 60 soldiers and 10 policeman. To make a long story short I had everything nesesery and so I clicked on the Arrest Edict and then on the person. Only two things happend.  She appeared in the inmates column and hand cuffs appeared over her head. She was a year later walking  around thinking "If I look at that bird, I'll stay free".  I thought What the heck, you are free.

Aren't the prisoners supposed to be inside the prison, not walking around on the streets?

Napoleon-- I don't believe prisoners stay full-time in the prison.  It is just treated the same way apartments or houses are treated by regular folks.  Yeah, it is strange.

Goddess-- You have to use the arrest edict and click on people to put them in prison.  Your city's cops come arrest them, and their new home is the slammer, either making license plates or being reeducated (having their respect increased).

Thanks bhar, I had prisons but never had anyone put in jail. (then again I've never used the arrest edict)  That's strange, that people can't get arrested by the cops on their own.

When they're "in jail" they have no conact with people on the outside even if they ARE outside, they can't vote, and their opinions don't matter for seven years

 I've had prisoners escape.

I've also had prisoners who I accidently let go because I shift-clicked them without realizing it would set them free.

I might have an answer for your first post. How the lady you put in jail was walking around saying if she looked at the bird she'd be free?  Well I put this teamster in jail, his name was Bob. (In honor of Teamster Bob here)   Wink And it took him a year to walk his big butt all the way to the prison. And on the way there he kept saying things like:

"I wonder if I can overpower the guards..."
"I wonder if my family has forgotten me..."
And then there was the bird quote

And he wasn't even at the jail yet! So my point is (yes I do have one) that they act like they're in jail, even if they aren't there yet. And if your chick was like my Mr. Bob, then it could take them ages to get there!     Kiss

Funny - I just arrested three people.  All were apprehended by the police, followed them to the prison, and are still in the prison a year later.  I have the prison setting to Use Convict Labor, and they still stay in the prison.

Awful things can happen when you randomly shift-click on stuff.

We have jails because it provides Tropico with 2 high-school level jobs, and thus El Presidente has to pay the fee to get them here, stimulating the world economy, and the guards in Tropico pay rent, eat at restaurants, and visit nightclubs, all stimulating Tropico's economy.  That's why we have jails.

They are also great for getting even with them uppity tropicans.  May not change much but you feel better.

They actually do come in handy in cutting down incidents of protesters.

Yes but you can't throw rebels in jail (I tried, also tried to put cows and children) I think you should be able to throw those rebel scum in, and have an option to have a evil looking man from China come in and torture them till they spill their secrets (among other things)  Wink  Wishful thinking  I guess

Anyway, I think it always should have been an option to torture and arrest rebels and try to get secrets out of them, not just kill 'em.  And jailing cows and kids and tourists would be kind of nice too, although i'm not too sure what it would accomplish.

That's usually the only reason I throw someone in jail. If I have a troublesome faction  leader or significant other I eliminate him/her Grin.

To expand on the point made, Yes -- you can issue the Edict with a Jail on the map. BUT the Jail has to have at least one employee before the Policemen will actually 'arrest' the unit. When the assigned Policeman contacts the unit to be 'arrested', the "overhead" goes away and the two of them have to travel to the Jail. When the arrested unit actually enters the building, the Policeman is released and typically goes home to sleep.
