Occasionally, as I watch over my enlightened populace, I hear the death rattle of a departing citizen. (or Yanqui dog, I suppose) However, I often cannot locate said citizen to discover why they passed on. The Almanac gives me how many people died, but not who they were or why they gave up the ghost. What is the best way to track down my dear and departed?

There are two ways:

  • wait for the buzzards to circle
  • watch for the coroner's van

Grin not really (obviously), you just have to get good at spotting them in amongst the hustle and bustle of dictatorial life!

A little known aspecta bout the banana tree tarantula I noticed, on a recent game - if you watch closely, one of the legs points to where the last person died. Find two or more tarantulas, and you can triangulate to the deceased position.

The trick is spotting the tarantulas, which tend to be elusive. I found it much easier to spot them after I've played for a few hours straight.

Go into the almanac, click on wages, if anybody who is not homeless, retired, or a child but has zero pay is, well, dead. Click on that person, and then click the "magic eight ball" to center on them.

There is no way!  What Chris says works only for the citizens in the workforce. So if the recently deceased is a Baby (Infant), Child, Mother, Student, Retiree, or Rebel - they will NOT show up on the lists\ pay-page on the zero line. Only some of those on the zero pay line will be dead; all Unemployed show there (there is no such avatar or sort for "homeless" - shacks are too easy to build).

However - finding individuals only to read "why they died" is useless. That sentence is sheer verisimilitude. Except for starvation, assassination, or combat - death is the result of the tolling of a date created when the unit was created (call it 'predestination' if you wish). The random events causing mass deaths (storms and epidemics) do not leave bodies strewn about. Therefore, the only reason to look for recent deaths is to keep tabs on your key positions - Doctors, Engineers, etc.
