you know what would be nice to see in these type of games? a more dynamic system of interaction. like, instead of a fountain adding X points to the beauty of an area, base the effect on what else is there. so, one of our little tropicans would say:
"a fountain, it is nice, but it looks out of place next to that tenament"...
"look, they planted some trees near that fountain. it looks a little nicer"...
"ah, a shrubbery (from roger, of course). now, this is a nice area. i can bring the kids here"
but, if you keep adding past a point, you get diminishing returns. is this a good idea, or am i just wasting your time?

Actually, I think it's rather a good idea. That way, a park with trees, bushes, and a fountain would have a more beneficial effect than the same items scattered over an area.
I like the concept! I wonder if we could get something like that in a patch/add-on?

Hey, if we get Boucaner's Mom in the add on, then I want both a Soylent Green Factory and a Rat Milking Farm!

Just wasting our time. I'm wondering if we could get your mom in an add-on. January, Really if you don't have much to say, don't say it (refering to this and several of your other untasteful/unrevelant posts) -:(

Boucaner: I thought your idea was a good one. If you took the time to arrange an area in the form of a park or such it had more value than just the sum of the parts. It would also carry on to a greater area (because of all the people talking about what a great time they had there).
rfnagel: I am with you. I have quit completely a number of forums recently, primarily because of all the stupid slamming that goes on. I like kidding around and all and I have done my share of slamming, but never for someone just offering an idea or asking a question. I have no idea why some people are not happy unless they are tearing into a fellow human.

Slamming is one thing (which usually tees me off too), but this is another alltogether. Look at some of his other posts: http://www.cafetropico.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=tropico&action=usersrecentposts&username=JanuaryI must admit that this is the *FIRST* negative thing that I've posted on this board, but all I can say is one thing... "arsehole" -:(

rfnagel: By slamming, I mean someone who by their behavior deserves a sharp slap to the cheek. As an example, their is fascination with trashing people based on where they live going on in the official Black & White boards. The moderators have been good about getting the blatantly racist posts deleted, but this has caused a stir among the offenders on the basis of freedom of speech. Since BWGame owns the forum they have the right to decide what they will allow on THEIR forum, but these guys continue to try to cause trouble, or say something offensive in a popular thread to try to get it banned. Two days ago I replied in the following thread: http://boards.bwgame.com/showthread.php?s=a6ce847940126a91a3f0aa42fd223e31&threadid=12588Mine is the eighth entry down and entered under the name IMProg. I slammed this guy because he was truly hateful and really making it hard to enjoy the board. It didn't do any good, though. In his response to me a little further down in that thread, he let me know what a useless piece of trash I was and what a superior being he was. Kind of how Hitler was I suspect. Anyway THAT is what I consider to be perfectly acceptable SLAMMING. Lord Corwin

I misconstrued what January posted as "slamming", but it seems now more like a child who is in severe need of parental controls on his daddy's PC. Your message post in the B&W forum was definatly warranted -:)

January needs some mothering! His or Her MOM needs to teach him or her some manners! Not just because he or she can remain anonymous on the board means he can blatantly disregard basic human courtesy and decency! He should just shut up! He's been slammin everyone!

Anyway, to get back on topic (Brian? Oh dear. He fainted).
I would like to see Tropicans have more thoughts that are practical instead of "I feel so animated" and "Aliens are in my head". I'd love to be able to see individuals say "this area is pretty" or "what a slum" or even "I wish I could get a better paying job" or "I'd love to be a banker, but I need education".

I think I've figured out why most of the people who post here are generally polite and civil. We have all discovered that it is in our own best interests to be polite. With so many Generalissimos, dictators, and other assorted "bad a** dudes" around those who step out of line have a nasty habit of disappearing mysteriously. Take January as a prime example. Have you seen him around recently? Hmmm? I rest my case, and thanks to whoever took him out!

For the rat-milking factory, one must be able to employ the young children. Only their fingers are small and nimble enough for the tiny teats.

Rest in pieces muchacho.

Boucaner: I thought your idea was a good one. If you took the time to arrange an area in the form of a park or such -- it [ought to have] had more value than just the sum of the parts. It would also carry on to a greater area (because of all the people talking about what a great time they had there). ... Lord Corwin did a useful thing by summarizing and restating the original comment. Sadly, he then renforced the slide off-topic. And the thread was destroyed. Given the mechanical nature of the units\people, it is difficult to imagine how to endow conceptual things (e.g. a park) with a value greater than the sum of the parts without a precise (i.e. coded) description of the whole. One thing that tends in that direction is the tourist accommodation plus attraction pod.
