What are your views on the two labor settings?  Last night I switched all of my Construction Offices and Teamster Shops to Easy Does It in an effort to raise their happiness.  I didn't notice a big difference, at least not enough to justify the lack of production.  Any comments?

I've noticed the same problem - but I think I was approaching the idea in the wrong way. The sweatshop and easy-does-it settings have more to do with production levels, I think, and less to do with overall happiness.

You want to see an increase in job satisfaction, pay them more. Especially right before an election - wink, wink. Smiley

If the only difference is production level, then what is the drawback for making them all sweat shops?  It can't be just to make me feel guilty,... cuz that ain't happenin'!  I know that it says something in the info box as you select each one, but I don't have the game here at work (... good thing) so I can't check it out right now.

i'm almost certain the info bar at the bottom says something like work 14 hours a day but reduces happiness by 20% for sweat shops.  it has to affect something and i'm quite certain it's happiness.

Maybe that classification has more of an impact on whether or not citizens will want to be employed there or whether they'll stay at the job in the event another higher-paying job comes along... that could have a significant impact on your labor.

I have just started playing around with this.  Easy does it should make your workers at that particlar job site happier although thier production is reduced.

I've started to use 'easy does it' in some of my factories when I notice the the input queche tends to stay low.  They can afford the work slow down and still get thier job done. It tends to work better to raise thier happiness then to go and irritate a very skilled employee by firing them.  It takes a long time to get them trained well and if I can increase the factories input then it's back to 14 hour days with a skilled workforce...  just call me Kathy Lee  Wink

I keep all production at “Easy does it" for the benefit of the workers. The bourgeois exploitation of Labor stops here.

I'm pretty sure setting buildings to Sweat Shop decreases the job happiness, I guess by 20%.  The effect on the worker depends on how important job happiness is to them.  I usually keep everything on sweat shop, unless no construction is needed.  Then I cut my already high wages and set work at the construction office to easy does it.

Kazarian, you have hit on the key.  The 20% reduction is to job happiness, not overall happiness.  That's just a small part of overall happiness, and not a very important one.  Food and housing are much more important.  A low job rating will cause some Tropicans to look for other work, but most of them are satisfied to have any work at all.

You don't have to make them happy as much and not make them angry.

I actually got my last island happy last time. I had tons of entertainment all over the place and made sure it was cheap enough for a farmer to at least go to one a place once a month. I had a population of about 350  and 4 pubs, 3 resturants, 1 house of ill morals, 1 night club, and 1 casino.

But, that's off topic. Kazarian has the right idea. I had a couple of canneries and during the off years (relocating coffee and pineapple farms) I would set the canneries to easy does it. Then, the worker would be able to stay busy and I would have a constant flow of goods even though very little was being grown.

I found the way to really make people happy.  Papal visit.  It gives a bonus across the board that is substantial.  Mardi Gras is also a nice little one.

I have noticed that sometimes they will actually be more productive on Easydoes it.  If it is on sweatshop, they work longer days.  They get tired out quicker and then it takes them longer to get back to work.  On the Easydoes it mode, they seem to balance work and everything else better...

Which setting has the foreman with the whip, the guy beating time on the drum and the slaves chained to their oars?  That's the setting that I like! Smiley

Oh that's easy.  You have to have the customized version that poptop sent me.

It has "Lazy slackers" (easy does it for you guys)

Average - 14 hour work days

And then there is the bonus level only in my game.

"Eddyatwork" - You people live only to serve you.  They are born at the factory.  Work at the factory.  Eat at the factory.  Die at the factory.  You are generous though.  They are allowed two hours a day to conduct personal affairs like sleeping and bathing.

I've had 17 rebellions in 3 years though.  Smiley

I still think you should have another option of "Chain Gang" in the jail.  So you can send them out to build roads etc at no labor cost...
