Huh

Okay, lets see now, I play the game and more times than not, it leaves me going HUH?Huh

Coups, okay only experienced one so far in a game, but kept getting warnings that my military needs to be appeased somehow.  Okay HOW? They are making the most money of all Tropicans, they have zero dollar housing nearby to them as well as a pub, marketplace, restaurant, what more can I give them.

They ended up revolting and destroying my palace, lucky for me I had that rowboat to at least escape with my life.

Labor shortages abound, one moment everything is fully staffed, the next thing, everything is understaffed, even though they are all getting paid really well, plenty of free housing, heck, Im footing the bill for most entertainment completely.

So, Huh? I think what this game really needs is a central repository for all labor force, so that you can adjust all labor wages in one place, I find myself jumping from place to place trying to adjust wages to keep everybody happy.  Perhaps in the almanac it would be a good place to have some more detailed information, perhaps, what my army wants to appease them would be in order.

Building: building, building, building, Im constantly trying to build something, but never seem to really grasp what it will do for my island, sure I understand what a construction crew does, but I build a TV station and see little impact on its behalf.

We want, we want we want! My unloyal b@st@r~ population screams that they want things constantly, I make the money available to build, but the slackers do nothing, I see people wandering all over the island, but nothing being done.  I need an execution edict to just start executing people at random so that maybe that will put the fear of their dictator into them, and get them off their lazy arses to do something beyond ciestas.

Okay, gotta go play some more and see what I can come up with.

One of the things mentioned a few times in the Strat. Guide which came with the EB bonus CD is that you're soldiers are males.. males can find entertainment at the Cabaret..

And yeah.. soldiers are dadgumed hard to keep happy..

1.  What do you mean "you make money available?"  You have to order the construction for the laborers to do it.

If you have a lot of jobs for them to do of equal priority, they will start with the closest to their office.

Construction crews go to sites where you have ordered something built and build it.  It may take a few months.  If you want that mine built now, click on the mine then adjust the green "priority" arrows at the bottom so they are higher than any other "desired" construction on your island.

2.  Click on a building i.e. your construction office.  Follow the instructions at bottom on how to "universally" adjust wages.

Im really starting to think the game mechanics behind this game are a lot like Pharoah or Zeus where you have to build things in really close proximity of other things, for example build a cabaret within an inch or so of the armory, else the soldiers  wont walk 6 inches to get to the cabaret, but building buildings close to each other in Tropico are a pain to say the least since you cant rotate to really stuff things close together.

Im sorry I wasnt clear, when I say i make the money available, that meant that I put my stamp of aproval on building something.  As far as the green arrows are concerned, they are iffy at best, I have layed down the blueprint to build a cathedral, and made it the highest priority, and have layed down some blueprints for 3 houses, and made them low priority, guess which was built first, the houses were built first and the cathedral hadnt even been touched yet.

While you can adjust all wages for a certain industry, like construction companies, I'd really like to see it where all industry, or anything that gets paid a wage be put to one screen, where you can adjust it from there, instead of jumping from one industry to the next especially since scrolling at anything but the closest zoom is choppy (yes, hardware mode is turned on with a 32mb agp 3d video card), 256mb ram, yada, yada yada.

Thanks,

There is a feature for universally adjusting all wages at a certain educational level.  Just click on a building and read the instructions.

... Coups, okay only experienced one so far in a game, but kept getting warnings that my military needs to be appeased somehow.  Okay HOW? They are making the most money of all Tropicans, they have zero dollar housing nearby to them as well as a pub, marketplace, restaurant, what more can I give them.  ...

A big problem with what the developers thought would be player intuitive -- they tried to emphasize the faction leaders. The "Army" is integrated with and a tool of the Militarist Faction. It's the Leader of the Militarist Faction who is the leader of the "Coups." Make him\her happy and it's doubtful that the army alone will raise many coups.

Labor shortages abound, one moment everything is fully staffed, the next thing, everything is understaffed, even though they are all getting paid really well, plenty of free housing, heck, I'm footing the bill for most entertainment completely.  So, Huh? I think what this game really needs is a central repository for all labor force, so that you can adjust all labor wages in one place, I find myself jumping from place to place trying to adjust wages to keep everybody happy.  ...

What the game really needs is players who are willing to learn about the game world rather than start demanding redesign of everything. The married females get pregnant and take a tiny bit of time off of work -- that messes up your happy - happy sandbox. Wages are not the only thing to watch. Oh, and there's emigration - so sad.

Building: building, building, building, I'm constantly trying to build something, but ["it"] never seem to really grasp what it will do for my island, sure I understand what a construction crew does, but I build a TV station and see little impact on its behalf.

What do you expect the buildings to do when you place them?

We want, we want we want! My unloyal b@st@r~ population screams that they want things constantly, I make the money available to build, but the slackers do nothing, I see people wandering all over the island, but nothing being done. ...

Just because the game engine gives you "prompts" about what is happening, you go crazy insane over them. You have to have a plan of your own. You have to start trying to understand why people are just wandering around rather than just cursing about it.
