In the recent preview at Gamepower, the writer mentions jungle rebel bases and naval blockades not being in the game, but alludes to the fact that they just haven't been implemented yet. What function will the naval blockades serve? And in another thread there are mention of rebel bases, but the conclusion was these are invisible. Rebels exist in the game world, but you don't really see them until they come out of hiding to attack your palace or other buildings.
Any thoughts on this?

I guess the naval blockades just simply prevent you from trading. That is if you don't have support from the opposite foreign power.

maxim thats a great point and that would be cool if that happened. i mean in wars its best to cut of the supply and then attack when everything is weakend and to tired or hungary to defend

I am slowly working to over come this problem

I agree. Blockades could be used to restrict trade and also prevent the movement of arms. One of the suggestions,in a preview I read, was that a foreign power could aid you militarily and perhaps a blockade prevents/restricts this.
What did we decide on the rebel hideout in the other thread? I can't remember.

According to PopTopDave we'll be able to see the naval vessels off our coast. I don't know if this will prevent your ships from leaving/returning or if they will "accidently" sink your trading vessels if they leave port. I'm confused about the rebel base. I read they were invisible until a soldier found it. Maybe this was old information, and the rebel bases don't actually exist in the game for us to find?

Hey, I got an idea for the Tropico sequel: You're the rebel trying to overthrow the Dictator!
Mr. P., any ideas?

I'm easily pleased Spike. Give me a few new buildings and characters, multiplayer and erm...enhanced military and I'll be a happy man.

Brian, you seem to be running for Dictator shortly, huh? I just might do the right thing by planning my way to the hills... packing my bags with all that rum made from the sugar in my farm...

Maxim, you are always welcome to bring you rations of rum and live on may yacht (nested between the Battleship and the Aircraft Carrier). My seamen can pay handsomely for the rum! Then we can consort who (if anyone) to support in the revolution.

I believe there is another way of spelling that word, which would most fall off their chairs in laughter... I'll leave that up to everyone's dirty minds to find out... Anyway, however much I'd like to rest comfortably on yer yacht, I must take my leave now and head for the mountains, The revolution is historically inevitable, as any marxist would know. If I'd been a fan of Bruce Dickinson this would be the time to chat: "Ruuuun to the hiiiiills... "

Maxim... thank you for pointing out something so obvious it should have smacked me in the head! I'm going to be joining Luke and Mr.P as the third dicator (will that make us the 3 Amigos or the 3 Stooges?) I promise fair wages, honest leadership and plenty of Mardi Gras celebrations for all! And quick and merciful death to anyone who stands in the way of myself and the penquins!! Oh... did I say that outloud?

Lie dammit, yes lie. These Tropicans cannot be told the truth, never. They would not understand the legal reasons for keeping a stash of Tropican government money in a swiss bank account. Or the exclusive tourist resorts for the soldiers....

Here's where Brian makes himself look like a complete idiot to the entire board! Everyone paying attention? One thing I could never[/b] figure out when playing Railroad Tycoon II was how to use your own money for the railroad after you had started the game, especially if you didn't use all of your own money to begin with. So... I'm hoping it's easier to tap into your Swiss Bank account (you can do this, can't you?) in case you need some extra funding for that new hospital... or, if you're like Luke or Mr.P - if you need some extra cash to add a swimming pool to the President's Palace!

Oh cool! Does this mean we get to lament our Railroad Tycoon troubles over a few pints of Guinness at the local pub? We could meet halfway, but that would be the middle of the Atlantic Ocean

It will be very interesting once Tropico is released to see how much influence RRTC has in the design. I think it will be substantial, and that is a good sign.

Going back to the Jungle Rebel bases, do you think it would be possible, once your island has grown sizeably, to have a presence in all corners of your Tropico paradise and prevent the rebels from creating bases? Or perhaps you 'discover 'them as soon as they are 'created'?

It depends on what the rebel bases look like, and it's still unclear if the bases will be visible in the game at all! If the rebel base is a complex of huts, towers and offices, my educated guess[/b] would be yes, you can limit the amount of bases that will form if the majority of your island is developed. However, I think there will always be the threat of rebels, regardless of how little natural cover they can utilize. It will depend on the finished version of the game, and how the rebels are incorporated into the gameplay!

Hmmm, given rebels are a fundamental part of the game, I'm sure there has to be some kind of default that allows them to exist, no matter what you did to the island. Who knows, maybe they become urban rebels and reek havoc throughout the land.

maybe they can hide in town, act like normal citizens and then at night (or during the day), do their dirty work.

I was just flipping through the newest string of screenshots at tropico.godgames.com (the fourth set!) and I noticed that a lot of them said that a freighter had just pulled in, but with no immigrants aboard. Haha, I can imagine middle class Americans selling everything they own and paying hundreds of thousands to sleazy freighter shipworkers to smuggle them into Tropico for a chance to start a better life. anyway, if you end up getting blockaded, you're losing a little bit more than just cash (even if they would just be people from 'inferior' neighbouring islands instead of rich Americans).
