Everyone seems to be saying that the political aspect seems to be diminished, what I would liken to know is what was scraped from the politcal gameplay. Any other comments would be appreciated.

I asked the same question, Beesting. In two interviews, Poptop's Brent and Paul both said that the political side of gameplay suffered the dreaded axe. I also am curious to know what was removed. Brent said they didn't want to make it too complex. Paul assured me that gameplay was still deep, and that political aspects were still being added. Maybe they cut some things when they worried about making deadline, and are now adding them as they have time. Or maybe some additional political intrigue will be added in a patch or expansion (although Phil is constantly hinting that there will be no expansion pack...)

Hmm, there SHOULD BE and expansion. Tropico El Presidente's State of the Union! I like the Politcal aspect, but I wish maybe it would have been a little more in depth. Anyways El Presidente does not tolerate pant wetting. You shall be elimanted!.....

I had similar concerns when I read the two interviews at Tropico Paradise. But it appears that the boys were just unhappy that not all the things they wanted in were included. As Kendahl says, it is still expectes to be a deep game, so I'll keep smiling.  |

Based on the dictator profiles at GOD, it seems that politics are still a complex key part of the game.

BeeSting -- you're getting the drift of these threads.
EnigmaJa and Mr. P. discuss something serious, and I zing them.
Of course, I could have chosen from two other bodily functions in my pants, but I thought wetting them was the least malodorous.
As for the Dictator Profile, I gather it will be quite complex enough that (assuming a Version 2 is eventually released) it would allow us to climb up the learning curve -- as we have done in RT and RT II and RT Gold.

I hate Trains. I tried the RT II demo and was confused, he he he. Trains aren't my thing. Opressive, evil, money mogering, uncaring rule of an island is certainly something that is my thing.  |

see the way i se it the expansion pack/sequel is not ensured.
If tropico is a smashing success as i expect it to be, then GOD and all of us will be pushing for a sequel.
But Phil it appears is his own boss and will do as he sees fit. If it means no tropico, then no tropico

What is to say that Phil has to produce the expansion.
With proper licensing, we could do what we should do for RT II and package the best new maps (like DaveG's and Gwizz's) on a CD and sell them!
I would expect that the same possibility would exist with Tropico -- especially if Phil does not want to be bothered with a sequel!

I am concerned about this rumor about diminished political gameplay. I thought political gameplay was the whole enchilada. Otherwise its just a Simcity clone. Ay yay yay!
