I have some questions about tourism. Some have been asked before on this board, but I am not sure they were ever answered.

Will tourists ever become members of society? In other words, will they take jobs, marry local citizens, etc? Or if they have such a crappy time on your island, will they join the rebel forces?

Can you "make" tourists stay on your island?  Perhaps cutting off all ways for them to get home (like closing down airports, etc.)

Can you 'eliminate' tourists and if so, what affect will it have on your relations with the US/USSR? On the same note, can you arrest tourists?

How do you get tourists to your island? I know one of the edicts is to run a national tourism campaign.  Will they still come even if you don't advertise? I think that how enjoyable of a time they have will determine if others come, but I am not sure how this works.

Since we know that tourism will be your most profitable source of revenue, it will be interesting to see how the tourism model works...

i trutly think that cutting off the airlines aint the hottest idea. i mean yeah you dont want the tourists to leave but then you wont get the higher class toursits spending the big bucks.

think about this. you hear about great places why. yes they are addvertised and all but how does that get that way.

building your island to being a great place is what going to attract your tourists.

example my backyard. hmmmm what about it you ask? nothing aing going to get me anything.

now get me a rollercoaster or hot chicks in the backyard and oh yeah money is rolling in baby.

Yeah, the chat covered these questions I think, in fact we had most of our outstanding questions answered.

Given that Tourism will bring in more money than any other element of the game, I'm going to have to change my planned tactics. Plenty of tourism to fund the army (I would say secret police but Hmmmm Sad ) and to keep the Tropicans happy.

I'd be interested to know what things we will be "scored" against, as I don't want a really high oppression score compared to you guys...Do we know what the "score" consists of and how it is made up?

Now that policeman is cool, and the action shot of him unloading his pistol, WOW! If this is what we can expect from the game, and with real close zoom onto the island, it's gonna blow our minds.

It's when you have another look at the action pics of the islander's that you realise, once it is all put in context with your island, how amazing this game really will be. And that's just when you stare at island life, let alone actually playing it.

Yup, my pint glass is half-full!

No Secret Police? Gutted, but hey, did you see the policeman and his gun?! . Think what the soldiers can do! Cheesy

All those in this thread
have been answered.

Tourists have their lives and Citizens have their lives, and the two do not mix. They may both use a few of the same entertainment buildings, but otherwise they go their own ways.

Tourists arrive and stay for 600 to 750 days and then they leave. They leave when they walk into the Port or Airport Terminal buildings; the player has no gameplay way of stopping them.

The player can not assassinate\eliminate tourists. The 'Spring Break' tourists may riot, but the player may not arrest them or any other tourist.

Well there aren't any secret police and that is a bummer ...

What did all those early players want, an egg in their beers? My word!! It's hard to understand how any "on map" NPC 'spooks' could provide a more complete dossier on each citizen and tourist than is already available by clicking on one and looking at the seven information panels. The spooks are "subsummed" into the background.  O.K. - there isn't any way to do a secret 'disappearance' - but is there ever a way to do that? In a small country, everyone knows who the secret police are -- except perhaps the secret police themselves who often aren't the brightest bulbs in the string. El Presidente is the only one smart enough to put it all together.  Or else the whole game could run without a player, eh?
