In a private discussion of editing buildings... this question came up:

Does the Capture edict work the same as the Arrest edict... while a coup is in progress?

Will soldiers capture their fellow brothers-in-arms?

El, I have tried to arrest fellow soldiers during a coup, but nothing happened; the soldiers from the dungeon just continued in their merry efforts to shoot up my nice palace.

I'll need to look at it again and see if issuing the edict alters the thoughts of the soldiers from the Dungeon.

I'll have to check it out again tonight, as I am currently at work, however I'd say based upon what I have seen myself, the Capture edict is of no use during a coup.

Darn it, there goes my idea to edit Police Stations to be a building for soldiers.

Dave's NIC '37 scenario (my all-time favorite scenario) gave me the germ of an idea.   Since the Guardia Nacional was a unitary para-military force... I wanted to reflect this by using only soldiers.

I would still need cops around to arrest those that attempted to over-throw my divine right to rule.

Police will capture people sent to the dungeon. Just last night I saw this happen as I sent the head of the intellectuals faction off for a little siesta in Siberia. She needed to realize that just because it's 1980, we have no college, and I'm an "asthetically challenged" shmoozer is no reason to be gettin' all riled up.

So, this means we may be able to arrest those traitorous soldiers after all. I will have to try this out.

I will donate a couple of bucks to get sraque... some new specs  Grin.

I'm playing a game now to see what results I get with the capture edict.   I should have known it, when I want a coup... I cannot get one  Roll Eyes.

I had a policeman join two soldiers in pursuing a suspect, but it was a soldier who made the Capture.

I think the way the 'Capture Edict' fits the game world is abundantly clear. The Army (Soldiers - has anyone ever seen a General dirty his hands by eliminating someone?) runs the Colonial Fort Dungeon (which has a three year term) ; while the Police run the Prisons (which have a seven year term).

The key point is that all the "person" edicts have to have an "enforcer" who is in work mode and is either already in or arrives at his employment building to receive the order. The Eliminate and the Capture are Soldier enforced edicts. The Coup is a special, overriding 'work mode' which prohibits Generals and Soldiers from actions other than their internal fight until it is resolved by El Presidente's being 1. sustained or 2. sent to the row boat. Therefore, those two edicts are useless during a Coup. I do not believe that the Soldiers employed at the dungeon are especially tasked by the 'Capture' edict.

I believe that the Police Prison system remains the main defense against Coups in Progess; but that is really too late anyway. El Presidente simply has to manage his Army better to prevent coups. The Colonial Fort Dungeon is an improved preventative measure for use in internal management of the Army. Using it to punish other random, simply irritating citizens is akin to pulling wings off of flies.

sraque's report is hardly reliable.

I suggest that El Malo simply edit the Guard Stations to employ eight or sixteen or more Soldiers rather than screwing around with the Police Stations. It's not the building; it's the avatar.
