Anyone beat this one yet?

I have tried about a dozen times and I lose the election every single time.

So what?!
Did anybody beat it? Otherwise I do not even try. Some scenarios make me feel like throwing the monitor out of the window (although my poor monitor is not responsible for Tropico scenarios!)

Well whatever, move my posts for no good reason.

Since this is a Paradise Island Scenario, doesn't "Paradise Island" section seem appropriate?

Oh who cares?

Damian,

Please find attached file with a win (just after victory achieved).

The 'recipie' is fairly straight forward ... you'll need eight (ideally nine) mines to achieve the mining part of the victory condition, and otherwise maintain a happy island; good housing, a variety of entertainment, plenty of social services. The 'moronic' flaw means that you have to pay through the nose to get your island fully electrified, but with all that gold and jewelry, cash shouldn't be too hard to come by. Hit the population with a lot of happiness edicts all at once to get the 55 happiness. 'Coupons n More' is a great money spinner in this one, as the population can get to 500 with an 'open door' immigration policy. As it turns out, I didn't take advantage of the 'Booze Baron' characteristic, but that would be one thing to also consider. Oh ... and build a second dock fairly early on at a more accessible location for commodity export. The initial dock is probably best used for tourism and immigration.

I do.

That's why I suggested the move. By moving it to this section the strategy gurus will see it. And you've already recieved some help here too. I realise it is a complicated forum we have here. In time you will catch on to our ways.

Thanks for the suggestions, unfortunately they really dont help much since most of what you said is either covered by the mission statement at the beginning of the level or is a general strategy suggestion.
Gold rush is somewhat unique in that u start with so many people and they all displace the skilled "local" who then have to go find new jobs, and you gotta figure a way to make them all happy enough to elect u 6 years after u start.   Note that the construction office starts with only 2 "locals" who can work and the immigrants are so dang slow getting to work you can pretty much bank on them not showing up to any job site for a year and a half after the start of the level.

However the suggestion to *build another dock* is KEY.
I figured that one out when none of my dockworkers (the aforementioned illegal ingrates... i mean immigrants) wouldn't go to work for 3-6 years at a time.  Once my dock had over 80!!!!!!!!!!!! in the output store. Bad bad bad.

That is what I was stuck on.  I eventally figured something out that worked, and it didn't involve building a single mine.  It involved of a massive tax cut / mardi gras celebration / free rent for a year.  Whoopie!   Of course this makes the population EXPECT the same treatment the just before next election, so its bad strategy but at least I won the first election.

And to the moderator who moved my post:
When you do that you, in essense, are telling the guy who posted it "You are an idiot for posting in the wrong place".   I dont like that.  Your strategy section is under "Tropico", not "Paradise Island".  Thats why I didn't post it there.  Technically, its not a Tropico question;  Its a Paradise Island question.  So you can see why I just dont care... There are a dozen ways to skin a cat and they are all just as valid as the next one.  Having moderators come in and "move posts" from one to another without obvious need for it is a waste of your time.  Get back to playing Paradise Island so next time u see a question of mine posted in a forum u think is wrong, can just answer it instead of playing "Thread God".

Have a nice day,

Damian, Trouble-Maker.

Hehe.

Damian,

Glad you figured it out! As I recall, my starting money for that game was spent generally on a construction office, forestry, mining, and a dock. The first loads of gold were exported before the election, which permitted the clinic, high school, and churches.

I've only played this game the once (essentially to reply to your question), and going with rum in addition to jewelry is probably the envisaged strategic approach.

Possibly a low class hotel on that north bay area might work well, using the beach site and the scenic lookout.

Junta_Joe,

Having been a moderator on another community board, I appreciate the reasons of what you've done here.

(6)Damian, Trouble-Maker.

1) You said it, I didn't

2)The Paradise Island board was made for the sole purpose of giving feedback to the Breakaway folks. Breakaway doesn't give game advice.

3)"Technically" it is a strategy question. PI does not have separate board except the for the reason listed above.

4)It's what moderators here do.  Roll Eyes

5)I would not ever give you advice on scenarios because I never play them. I was refering you to the people who did.

6) I agree

As a last note: I'm not a moderator. I didn't move you. I simply left a note for the movers.

Get a life, it's only a game.

I know you were making a jest Railnut, but, I was trying to point out that the moderators are not just for editing off color verbage here. They maintain a sense of order. Be it through warnings, editings, and moving things to their correct place the peace is kept and the flow is unimpeded.

Even a "bull in a china shop" like me can appreciate the work that the mods do. Messing with them means you mess with me.  Wink

All I can say about Damian's comments is no good deed goes unpunished.  Roll Eyes

Actually, the thanks was meant sincerely. Damian kind of plucked my nerve with his post, and your reply was perfect. I only picked on number four because of your 'rolling eyes'. It is nice to know that our work is appreciated by some. We do spend some time behind the scenes doing our job when we might rather be here just to have fun and enjoy the forum.
