Senoras e senores, after the competition I planned to post a new scenario. But all the overwhelming response at the Cafe made me change my mind. The idea of this new competition map is the same as the idea of the scenario. I just modified the scoring, so that it can be used for a competition. And of course, in this competition map there are no additional events or modifications of the *normal* settings. It's a straight random game again, BUT ... Winning conditions: Make your residents HAPPY. The score depends on two factors: 1) the number of residents after 30 years and 2) the percentage of happy residents, multiplied by 5. So with a total number of 200 residents and 50 of them being happy (= 25%) the score would be residents x 1 = 200 25% x 5 = 125 total score = 325 More than in other games you can alter your strategies. It's a really challenging scoring system, I promise. But I don't want to tell too much- just play around and you will see. Please do not post your results on this board this time- as we saw, the *MAGICAL 601* of Mr.P. kept many players from sending in their maps. And IMO it's much more thrilling when nobody knows how much points all other competitors have. Alright, thanks again for the nice response, and - HAVE FUN ON ISLA CORONA !

Just coming back from "holiday" on Isle of Scaia - my doctor said, I should have a rest from that stress. He suggested a nice and relaxing vacation on an isle, where many happy people live on. And there it is - Corona (sounds healthy)! Thanks Che, I had a first try - this is really different to Scaia... but I wonder what my doctor will tell me in May!?

Oh, I see... Cam, PeeWee- we just need Mr.P., and the three winners of Scaia make their own competition! Maybe nobody else knows about the new map? Have fun, Che

I'm here Che, and I can assure you I will not be posting any of my miserable scores at the Cafe; for fear of both public humiliation and because I want as many players as possible to enjoy your competition. Apologies if you felt my posting in the previous game caused some to not play.

Oh, please don't missunderstand me- I know that many members played the map, but only seven friends send it in. So I think that they knew they couldn't win and decided not to send the map in. But maybe there were other reasons. I would like to know why those who played the map on and on finally didn't submit the results. But it has something good: my 360 points were quite a good result ... Hope you like Corona, Che

Well I'm in on the new comp. Started last night. Very interesting. It's going to take me awhile to work out this scoring thing. - but I do like to make my people happy When's the dead line?

Hi Coffeebean, deadline is April, 30th. I thought I had written it on the final almanac page on December 1979. So the conditions are the same as in competition #1, just one day less. And you may submit TWO maps per player. (So with a little luck we will have a TOP TEN) Greetings, Che

Argh! My hard drive is dead, and along with it Tropico. Sorry I didn't make the last deadline Che. Hopefully, by the the end of the month the hubster will have spruced up my computer and I'll be able to play again.

Another great scenario Che! Oh, no! This means I will have time for nothing else for the next 3 weeks again. Personally, knowing what score I had to aim for was what kept me trying and trying again. I guess I would have sent an entry earlier if I had not known, but it would not have been as high. It should be interesting to see what the entries are this time. I think the idea to allow 2 entries is a good one. I was going to suggest allowiing more since only one forced me to go right to the deadline before sending any in.

I understand both arguments, but do agree with CafeDave on this. I'm sure I would have been happy sending in a 350 game last time if it weren't for Mr. P's 601 target 'leaked' so early on. Maybe all of the entrants could let Che know their best score as at say 20th of April, and Che could post an average? Just a thought.

Of course I wouldn't want to keep anybody from posting his score. It's just I thought it would be more thrilling NOT to know where you stand. For example, at the moment I think that I have a brilliant score. But maybe at the end of April I might realize that I'm average or worse. - I don't know if I had sent in my Scaia result- from the posts I knew that I was worse than 5th place, and I think I'm not alone with that feeling of being *out of range*. If anybody wants to post his result, it's okay by me. I do like Cam's suggestion of posting an average score. April, 20th is a good date. Che

A plague on all your houses! (Well, those who manage to get a lot of happy Tropicans anyway. ) Out comes the loving nurturing side of El Presidente, and what do my peons do? Act all content. Content.....do they not know the importance of being happy on my island?! I kid you not, if there was a happiness stick I could beat my people with, they would all be in for a good pummelling. Peons....hmpf.....miserable bunch, the lot of them.

Thank you Che. I am new in town and barely found the cafe in time for the first competition. I look forward to spending my rainy april days getting happy on the new island.
Mr P's 601 still amazes me. But it also challenged me to try again. After using some of the different techniques I observed on the top 3 posted maps, I still haven't broken 500. Posting scores is a great idea. Would any leaders be bold enough to post their maps?

Hey Estio, to check out the top 3 games go here.Posts 5, 6 and 7, the attached zip files. PeeWee and Cams games are a great example of how to create a profitable economy and a large island in only 20 years. There is a lot to learn from these games. Mine is more related to squeezing as much profit as you can out of your peons, whilst providing the barest of essentials. I recall I only had 3 tenements for over 260 people, and 2 farms to feed them, although pay was fair. If you check the Almanac you'll see the low scores under happiness. Lets just say, you can make people work on empty stomachs. If the game had been any longer, you would need to drop some Guard Posts and an Armory to keep the peons repressed. A few prisons would help of course too.

@ Mr. P. : thanks for your nice comments on our games.
I'd never tried hader - without knowing your "magic 601" - you had a very clever, tricky strategy.
On the other hand I agree with Che: with "only" 400 points, I wouldn't have joined the competition. It was really the last day, I broke the magical 600 border.
So I think it's a good idea to have a clue to what is possible with the scenario: an average score would help. So we should send our first high-scores to Che before April, 20 th.

Hi competitiors, since I know you are women and men of honour there will be no need to send in a savegame on April, 20th. Just an email with your high score is okay (if you want to send in that map anyway, you can do it, of course). Again- a great idea, Cam. Greetings, Che

Me too - and improving Infact I was so pleased with my very first score (and seeing that we can send in two saved games) I already sent the first one into to Che! Now if only there was an edict to make babies happy - the "This Little Piggy Went to Market" Edict perhaps.

Very enjoyable map/competition. Oh the joys of being nice every once in a while. I've emailed my score. Suffice to say it was higher than the winner's score in the last competition (oh were we not to post scores? ) I guess I was being nice...this map rubbed off on me. Oh yeah...good to be back even though you moved and forgot to tell me.
