I was reading the Breakaway games Paradise Island Forum and found this:

In a post on 4/4/02 in the thread "Problems with Tropico & Espansion," Breakaway Mac said: "There is a known occasional crash associated with storms. It'll be fixed in the patch, which is due out late next month."

Is it still planned to issue a patch towards the end of May?

Yes -- the latter part of May is the plan.
