Basically, it's an MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Roleplaying Game) set in the Star Wars universe. One of the reasons I'm not going 'Oh no..." is that they've grabbed some developers of Everquest, sat'em down, told them to create a game, and make sure it's NOT Everquest in space.
The screenshots look beautiful, and the gameplay looks awesome, with both Character created missions as well as NPC created missions, three factions to choose to join, or stay "neutral", about 9-12 planets, each 16x16 KM, 8 playable races, dozens of professions, including such things as a hardresser, all the way to a informant or Bounty Hunter.
There is no "Level" system. It's all experience. The longer you've been say, a surveyor, and the more the resources you've found are used, you can from, say, "Basic Surveyor" to things like "Master Surveyor". Now, all of this works on skill points. The more skill points you earn, you then "Spend Them" and a career tree, giving you certainly abilities.
Now this game IS NOT all about combat. They've tried to do everything in thier power to offer other ways of playing the game. The crafting system is one of the most complicated I've seen. It kinda goes like this: Find Resources, Mine Resources, Refine Resources, Somebody desgins something, anything from a blaster to a speeder using that resource, sells that schematic, somebody manufactures that using the resource, and then finally it gets sold. Now, every part of that requires a different job, so there were about half a dozen people involved in that.
Obviously, I can't describe it all here, so go to
www.starwarsgalaxies.com for more. If you decide to go to the message boards, read the FAQ first, and DON'T ask if you can be a Jedi. I'll be there as CowOfSteel.
P.S. Yes, you can be a Jedi, but it's very rare. VERY rare. First you have to become FS (Force Sensitive) which appears to be random, and then you have to train for it, which could take weeks.
P.P.S. I'm sorry, but I'm very excited about this game.
