I'm still farting around with Born Again. My new experiment is to play slower and add lots of landscaping. I'm really enjoying this beautification process and it doesn't seem to be slowing my economy notably, I guess it's because people are happier and this makes all things flow better.
My question is: is there any list of the plants and trees available in Landscaping? I'm playing on my laptop and can barely see the icons. I expect there must be a difference in the quality improvement by using 25/50/75/100 $ vegetations.
I really like the fruit trees and the hydrangea, and various palms, but I'd really like to know what the others are, like those weird small leafy shrubs, almost like grasses?

Well --
You could carry your question off to a forum about the editor for Railroad Tycoon. Such a list may exist somewhere there.
The map editor and flora were lifted from sources related to RRT.
The flora certainly has very little to do with the tropical Caribbean.
But, you certainly should feel free to use 'advanced search' to see what you can find.

Hey TNT,
The Brady Games store bought strategy guide I have lists the different plants and their prices and beauty ratings. I'm not sure if you were looking for more precise vegetation types than "Ornamental Tree" but I figured I write the list down anyway so you have the beauty ratings.
Type Cost Beauty Fountain $200 9 Large Fountain 1000 21 Statue 600 5 Note: I think this also has a positive effect on military presence in area (and therefore maybe also a negative effect on liberty) Wild Shrub 25 to 75 .3 to .7 Wild Tree 50 1 Hedgerow 25 .9 Ornament Bush 75 1.2 Ornament Tree 100 4.5 Flowers 25 2.5
Personally, I like the fountains, ornament palm trees, and flower beds (there are only two kinds, I like not having to think too much when I'm quickly filling in my tourist area). Sometimes I use this purple bush they got in there also. Occasionally the fountains can make later building a little difficult because they won't level the land near it. Blah.

thank you dear, those are indeed good figures. I havn't tried to complete my last 5 predesigned scenarios in the past 2 months, I was getting nowhere and frustrated with them. I decided to get my thickening BEHIND away from the laptop for a while and pursue other activities. I think that big purple bush is a hydrangea, I love the look of it, yeah I'd like to know what on earth all the green things are, I tend to place them around beach sites, docks, anything near the water... probably don't belong there at all but they're cute there. So I was just curious. Cheerio!

TNT,
Yeah, the vegetation can be nice to add. I just put some down wherever I have an empty cell. I forgot why I originally picked the landscaping items I chose to put in, but now that I look at the numbers again, those are the ones with the best beauty numbers for the money. That bush is something I've been putting in recently, but it may be a bad return on my investment. If I knew for sure that the statue had no negative effect on liberty, then I would definitely use it in my tourist areas for the military boost so the soldiers wouldn't be walking around with their AK-47s scaring everybody. I generally don't start landscaping until I get those banks up and running with their 60% construction discount. You only need two banks for the 60% discount; ignore the game information that says you need three! Spread the word and tell your friends! Shout ONLY TWO BANKS towards the heavens!!!
Sorry. I got a little overexcited.

The Brady Games store bought strategy guide I have lists the different plants and their prices and beauty ratings. [on page 123, at the end of Chapter 5] ... The guide is partly in error because it does not show construction points for the vegetation items. When you "plant" them from the construction menu in the ordinary course of events in the game, the construction Laborers must stop by and give them a few wacks before they are well & truely planted. So, construction points are indeed involved. Then, one should know that most of these vegetation items can be added to a map through the "Vegetation" tool of the Editor - at no cost. In Game, these items are available through Construction (hammer) / Landscape. They appear in two rows of five icons. When one clicks on an icon, the price appears in the "Circle Window." In some, one can rotate through several selections for the actual plant to be placed. - Top Row
- Flower Beds, $25
- Shrubs (really wild ?), $50
- Large Trees, $50
- Small & Fruit Trees, $75
- Small Fountain
- Bottom Row
- Single Flowers and Single Bushes to make a hedge, $25
- Ornamental Trees, $100 (do not grow)
- Stones (?), $25
- Statue
- Large Fountain
. It is very hard to correlate the Game Guide list with the construction menu (my description of the construction menu is by no means exhaustive). It may be that something was lost when the construction menu was changed with the Paradise Island expansion. One clue is that wild vegetation grows, dies and springs up again; ornamental vegetation does not. There is also the question of how many of which plants can occupy a cell/tile. That has not yet been carefully cataloged. Note: Farmers and Loggers will chop down your $100 Ornamental Trees if you plant them in their work zone.

Apparently it was during the period of posts that was lost in the "big hack" that I posted the information on how the tile (green grid square) is broken down for vegetation.
By memory, the tile is divided into quarters for some plants such as flower beds; into three rows of three large trees; and smaller spaces for individual flowers. You can figure it out by using the editor's vegetation tool while zoomed in.
The plants will appear not in line if the tile is on a steep slope. Otherwise, you have to be careful and meticulous to place the plants while zoomed in. That is especially true if you are trying to use a hedge to control traffic.
I suggest a paused use of the editor's vegetation tool for extensive gardening; but the construction menu plants are good for a few, scattered plantings.
