Okay I got it, its Alamanac, People, and then Income Disparity.  I tried to delete this thread but I guess you're not allowed to delete the first post in a thread.

Actually, I think that the income disparity in the almanac section applies to the disparity on your island only.  You can decrease this by making the upper echelons pay and the peons pay closer.  Lowering the gap pleases the communists and annoys the capitalists, I think.
I have heard of people talking about the average wage of the Caribbean in these threads also.  I'm not sure if there is a default set in the programming anywhere.  I have always assumed since this information, if there is any, is not viewable by the player that it is a moot point.  If my thinking is correct, making your island life appealable (the happiness of your population high) plays the biggest role in determining how many immigrants you attract.  Also the immigration office and the skills of the workers in them are a big factor.

No. The "Average Carribean Wage" is provided in the almanac. It is located on the "Income Disparity" page, as the last item just above the graph, which is probably not where most people would look for it  Cool

The Average Carribean Wage tends to rise steadily throughout the game, but does also reflect the average wage on your island. If you drop all your wages to $1, then the Average Carribean Wage will also take a slight dip. The reverse is true for massive pay rises  :-/

I guess someone with too much spare time could calculate the theoretical Carribean population based on how much of an effect your island has  Roll Eyes

dadgumed, what promised to be my first useful post just blew up in my face.  Perhaps I should just return to trolling and leave it at that.

Caribbean, that is. It is linked to the Economic Difficulty slider in the game setup. It probably always starts at the same amount; but in any case, it then increases on a straight-line progression the steepness of which varies with the economic difficulty setting. It tops out at the 70 year amount or $50 which ever comes first; therefore, if you play for centuries, it ceases to be a factor.
