I believe I have achieved a military of 50+ without cheating.
I like to just go up to the top of my palace and snipe people with my muerte gun occasionally.
Especially tourists about 3 squares from getting to the dock to leave.

Just a thought - (I have only played the demo, after all) I had a couple of military just to keep that faction happy, but I left them at regular training, while my guards were all higher paid and spec ops trained...

Evenin!
I've always found that you keep your military as low as possible, unless you have rebels.
Once you have rebels, have as many soldiers as you can, as spread out as possible.
I wouldn't worry about having special training, just have them. The rebels aren't trained so why have the soldiers?
You might want to pay them a little more, just to make sure that they are always staffed...

Me I keep about 10 to 30 soldiers around my island but problems with pay arise becaues I pay 20 to the normal soliders and 35 to generals to keep em happy but that eats my cash in the tresury

Thought I'd replied to this but must have been a similiar query. Answer is 0 and 0 again if you can get away with it. The more you have the more revolting they are. If you dont have any they can never revolt.
If you've got some and they're complaining fire 'em before they revolt!
Seriously unless it's a militiary scenario where you know you need them to quell invaders or your own peasants the less you have the better. For one thing they need more pay than other High School kids and as they bring nothing in its just costing you money. Get Priests instead he says speaking as an atheist. At least they make some people happy.
If you've got a high school (and immigration on skilled workers) so you've got educated doing unskilled jobs you can afford to have no soldiers until you need them and then just open the jobs up, pay big money and they'll flow in. Then fire them when they've killed the rebel/invader!!! One rebel does less damage than a revolting soldier.
Same with police. Those 'orrible spring tourists usually do so little damage that it's not worth the lack of liberty (and cash) caused by building/manning a police station. There's even a couple of scenarios which start with every kind of military in place but they seem to be the cause of the people's uprisings and, if you fire them, the people are a lot happier and dont revolt.

Answer is 0 and 0 again if you can get away with it. ... If you dont have any they can never revolt. In theory, yes. The problem is that there can be soldiers even if you have none employed! I know this because it's what happened to me in my last game. I stayed at no soldiers, and then, when the one Rebel on the island attacked, I temporarily hired four palace guards to fight her off. As soon as the attack was repelled I fired them. The result was of course that the militarist faction went nuts. One day I got a message that there was a military coup starting. I was amazed to see a soldier, in uniform but "employed" as college student, running towards the palace. Of course I hired a couple of guards to get rid of him, and got some serious firefight. Cheers Olle

Or just get the editor, type "exacto" and give yourself whatever total you want. Or better yet, just say you won and don't bother playing the game in the first place...

Too right, Vinraith. If he would even bother to try to learn this site, he would see we list all the editor and cheat codes anyway. I guess he supposed that after 2 years after the original Tropico release that we haven't discovered them yet.

I've had close to 150 soldiers before, but its hell when they revolt.
In the end, it was the 110 traitors verses my fourty loyalists...Poor me.

Have had an armed force in excess of 600-700, and a police force about 50. A bit of overkill, but no complaints

Wow I usually play the game so there is a coup or rebel attacks because I have fun with it. The largest army I've had so far was 157 and then there was a coup and I ended up with only 4 left after it. But it was fun

The largest I had was only six or seven . Shortly after I got the station and soldiers, I had a big coup outside the palace. I later thought of just using the police to keep the rebels at bay.

Uh... Georgie, cops will not engage in combat with Rebels. The exception is when an Uprising is underway. KidKapri, if you like being a militarist, read the thread at the link below: http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~tropico/cafe/index.php?topic=6680.25Then go play the scenario.

Gracias, I forgot that. But the most rebels I had at a given time was no more then three. That may mean I can get away with just an army of four.

The Policemen actually go against you in an uprising? I've only built the police station once, and then I had a coup d'etat right after.. So I didn't have time to see.

Im big into the military scene. When my population is 1,000 I will typically have 150-200 soldiers and generals. I usually make a huge Army installation in the South. It contains about 4 Army Bases, 12 Armourys, and 16-24 Guard Stations. I also have some military around the whole Island. ~*~QUESTION ABOUT POLICE~*~ What do the police really do? I've never seen them fight or do anything, all they do is walk around the island, unless I arrest someone. I hear that they can beat people and stuff but I haven't seen that.
