True friends stab you in the front.

« on: 05/20/01 at 04:13 PM »

When I was newbie I just decided to screw around and see how big I could make my military...And while I was experimenting with that I decided to mess with everyone and made their lives miserable because I THOUGHT my military was unbeatable, being at 22 soldiers. Well.....that just didnt work out. To stir up things a bit, I bulldozed all the churches, cathedrals, high schools and colleges & pissed off both religious and intellectual factions.

And after that, my friends....I was greeted by 49 machine gun totin' rebels. I wish I had the picture to prove it. I was wondering what you guys had for your highest number of rebels.

I had an experience where 3 of my 4 soldiers became rebels, but the 1 faithful guy managed to crush the rebellion Smiley
I was pretty surprised.

The most I've had at one time is 6.

Mmmm, I tend to find I don't have anymore than say 12 rebels. I would normally aim for an army of about 20-25 soldiers per 500 Tropicans, which is usually more than enough to handle the rebels.

I find my Tropicans go straight from vocally complaining to rebels, I have had no uprisings whatsoever. I really must try harder!

I've had plenty of protesters in the streets, but never had any rebels. But then again, I haven't played on the really rough political side, mostly with harder economic settings than political.

And also, I doubt I am as ruthless as mr P. I trust you are ruthless in a very conserned way. "For their own best"...  Wink

I find it's bad to have too many soldiers, as all you need is to have a bad bank balance, and a chain of events happen. First wages go down, soldiers get unhappy. Soldiers start a coup d'etat. 10 loyalists, 20 anti....your stuffed lol  :-/

Greetings to my fellow banana republic fans. I wish you all a great day or night and this is my first post.
I picked  Farmer/Generalissmo/Military Coup/Charismatic/Hardworking/Paranoid/Womanizer : I had like a +60% Military Faction rating with the Charismatic bonus bringing it to +65%.
I refused to build houses except for $1000 homes for the soldiers and generals. I had three generals,4 palace soldiers and 1 guard tower with three troops. I kept civilian pay at 5 dollars. My pop was about 80 when there was a civilian uprising. Forty five citizens stormed the palace (not rebels). Even thought my heavily paid troops were not "special op"....I had the Generalissimo bonus of soldier efficiency of 15% and faster shooting.  It was hilarious. :-)  The fisherman character was too funny jumping up and down on the palace door with .....YES....his POLE! My guard lost a general and two soldiers but the rebellion was crushed.
Then I was crushed. Somehow people went to work after that but did not produce at the peacetime rate. Teamsters...and I'm sure this happened twice...STOLE their load before it got to the dock. (I think it was fish). Maybe there was a graphics flicker on the screen...but I saw no goods delivered on the sand before the docks.
I was eventually overrun by rebels (about Cool. Who slowly whitled down my reduced pay palace guard (i was - 15000 tresury with no goods delivered to ships).
Did the whole thing purposely and the citizens running wild and the others in hiding looked for a second like Age of Kings combat.I'm trying to master a max elevation map with 75% water coverage and UN monitored elections now. With the other  difficulties it is set at about 175%. Ive lost 4 out of 5 and high score was around 1575. I LOVE this games varietal factor. I want to try and do a map with NO churches or cathedrals soon.
 Take care.

This may sound a bit ohhh INSANE but what the hell...

I once played on the smallest map size with 70% watter coverage so my island was about as big as half a football feild  Shocked. and i played to piss my people off. My 4 palace guards were the ONLY people with money or a job or a nice house. I closed all other jobs and fired everyone, my people had 0 food, 0 money and it was set on "Rebel yell!" so I started to piss my people off even more by killing them at random (I used the pesos cheat to fund my weird regime) then saved.

the next time I started up I was attacked by rebels and ALMOST beat but then I came back only to be invaded by the U.S.

Then i started the saved game again and started killing everyone till my people rioted at my palace, my guards were killed, my followers were killed, hell, I even saw a guy running away to hide ambushed by 3 people and beaten to death Shocked. Soon enough I was on the rowboat...

The last time I played I saw what was probably the weirdest thing ive ever seen. My people were apparently to tired to riot and I just slowly killed my entire adult population (70~ people Wink ) untill my population was all children and millitary officers... the marines that landed must have been quite surprised Grin .

Im currently playing a real game and my millitary is around 1 per 25 NON-Armed people. Ive already killed/bribed (faction leaders)/jailed around 50 protesters and have fought off only 1 rebel. Who says martial law is useless Cool

I've had something like 19 rebels on the rebel scenario. I played it like 2 months ago so the numbers aren't exact.

I usually have 18 police and 30 soldiers per 500 citizens. And I'm not that tyrannical. The militarists and capitalists adore me and the commies are 7 on the scale of ten. Religious 5 out of 10. Always play on hard/hard. My theory is "Screw the nerds and envirosomethings" Grin I just forget about liberty.I allow 1 election out of 3 requests when I "interpret" the votes.
The intellectuals don't leave because they have a lot of money, good housing, entertainment, and sometimes thier books get burned Grin (I put my most skilled journalists on LwL).
