Mountaineers do it for Tropico

« on: 02/27/03 at 11:24 AM »

NEW FULL SCENARIO LIST     (( N. B. A new Zip of complete list as at  20/8/04 is included with the sixth item on Page 2))

I have been researching/updating Bethanys list since he first posted it and the following is so far as I can tell a complete list of all the English scenarios available plus one in Italian (Jacht Club) as it is available somewhere here. I hope the columns come out correctly - they dont on the small type-in box!

Column 1 is the title in the order it appears on your menu when entering the complete new scenario listing on P I except First Attempt which has to be downloaded into (Saved) Games.  It is not strictly in alphabetical order as (for example) The is not ignored so The Good Earth comes under T not G along with another five.

Column 2 is which disc it appears on and in which area of P I. Original is Tropico, P I and M M are obvious. All indicates that it is a download so only appears after it has been downloaded and unzipped to Tropico (Maps).  A blank again shows a download that I have been unable to get so cant guarantee the correct title.

Column 3 is for games available as downloads.  CT addtnl indicates that it is available from the Player Scenarios section on the Main Lobby of Café Tropico (to get there from here click on the C T icon on the top left of this screen, then go down the menu on the left), the first few play on Tropico, the remainder need P I.    T World is the Tropico World site and not all its scenarios are available at the moment.  All the M M scenarios are available as a download for owners of P I.  Some of the P I and M M ones are also available as individual downloads so appear in both columns.

Any other entry indicates the website it comes from, to get the full address go to Bethanys list, if there is no entry in Col 2 it shows that I have been unable to get to the site.  If there is no entry in this Column and Col. 2 is All then I have downloaded it from somewhere here in the Café Tropico Users Forum, almost certainly from this section.

Column 4 is the given difficulty level. Very Easy, Easy, Moderate, Hard, Very Hard, Ridiculously Hard.  Question marks indicate that I (and others) think them harder.  On one I have indicated that I think it easier. If I havent got them obviously I dont know the difficulty level.

Column 5 is self indulgence.  Ive played every scenario in full with no cheating (codes or other scams) and where I have achieved the objective I have entered Done so on the  others you can have a good laugh over my pathetic attempts if you have succeeded easily on them!  Ive got a bigger list with notes on problems and such like, nothing like as detailed as the notes on M M by Mateo, just a few words, actual score and so on, I have used these to reply to anyone when they have been stuck and Ive done it. Its also useful for ones you have completed so that you can go back and try again but with a higher random events factor built in.  Mind you that was before I had discovered just how many extra scenarios there are.  Now I dont have time!

One scenario is not worth playing as it always goes down after 20 years (Respect of Nations).  Another two have flaws so that they can never be won, but you can tell whether you have achieved the objectives by counting the sales from jewelry factories (Le Grand Meadows) and smoked meat from ranches (Capitalisto). Personally I do not believe that Playa Del Sol is achievable as there seems to be insufficient gold on the island to meet the target, but I stand to be corrected. Four scenarios included in Bethanys lists are not proper scenarios (per their author) so are not included but are mentioned at the end for the sake of completeness.

Finally, then, can I say that if anyone has got one of the scenarios that I am missing I would be grateful if they could send it me (or post it here).  If you do you could post a note to that effect here or I might get ten copies of one and none of the rest!    john@belbincolne.co.uk            If I do manage to get some of the missing ones and the list needs updating I will post a revised list later.

Well it looked better than I'd expected but far from perfect so I'll try adding it as an attachment although there wereproblems zipping it so it still may not work.

I also have to apologise because every inverted comma has become #8217 etc - this happened last time I pasted a posting in - if everyone thinks its worth redoing I'll re-post without using any inverted commas - but why on earth does it happen?

Attach a new list updated to today.  There's a new reference for where to find the Scenarios "Brf" where most of the additional scenarios can be found:

http://home.insightbb.com/~b.fermanich/tropico3.htm

There's 122 scenarios in English plus Jacht Club. I'm 9 short so if anyone's got them I'd be pleased to have them.

I would recommend that the site be submitted to the CT web-ring.   It would be the logical and handy location to make it available to all.

Question -- do you think it's possible to beat Tropilegio with no cheats? With cheats, I've been able to build enough luxury items (church, etc.) to keep folks happy, _and_ create the industries necessary to motivate the people to get an education.

Without cheats, they boot me off quickly.  Embarrassed

It's becoming an obsessions! Help!

Yes it is - I did it with 4 yrs to spare at my 5th attempt. Score 541.  Cant remember how its so long ago.

I keep thinking I must post my own list of
(a) definitely impossible scenarios (because technically cant be done) (eg Respect of Nations/Capitalisto)
(b) probably impossible ones (because there isn't enough of the commodity available to do it) (eg The Foundry/Playa Del Sol)
(c) Ones I cant do although others can(eg Mt Sucio,Green Island, Jailhouse Rock)

But I cant find time to get round to it!

Hi belbincolne,
what a pity you didn't like Playa del Sol, but I can assure you that it IS possible to win this game. Some players did. If you like to have a save game, tell me.

What about Canon Grande? Did you get it somewhere? I made it a while ago, and I still have it on my harddrive.

Thanks for the good listing, greetings,
Che

Thanks Che M.
Playa del Sol. It's not that I didn't like it but I found it impossible to make more than about half the jewellry requirement because the gold supply became too deep to dig out.  I read somewhere that you demolish the gold mine(s), build a house on the site, demolish the house and rebuild the gold mine but in 30 yrs there was hardly time for this. Is there some other secret?

Canon Grande - no I never found this so if you could post it here or send it me I'd be grateful - it's new scenarios that keep you playing! Thanks.

I think it's time to post Canon Grande at the Cafe- I realized I never did it... Maybe there will be players who like it. As far as I remember it's quite difficult  Huh

Oh, about Playa:
I didn't use any *tricks* like building houses over a mine. But I did realize a bug several times: if you build more than one gold mine AND jewelries, the miners stop digging. They go to the mine, walk around, go to the dock (!!!), go home, go to the mine and so on. They do not produce any gold.
I realized that from time to time, not always, and I never found out to avoid it.
Maybe this happened in your game(s), also.
Have fun with Canon Grande, Playa isn't that thrilling, anyway.

Hey ho I shall commence immediately. Playa - I always built two mines so may be that is what's up - so that's another one to have another bash at. I'll report back shortly but I'm on hol next week so it may be a while.  Thanks Grin Grin

Well I beat Canon Grande at the 2nd attempt.  Quite good fun but there didn't seem to be any penalties for failing to meet Uncle's requirements - unless the number of rebels is related to this.  Why not post it in a separate post as there seems to be several new players coming who may not have picked it up here?

Still haven't had time to retry Playa del Sol but will do soon.

If anyone has these files or links to them, please send them to me.  I have almost every other scenario and can send them as needed.

Belbincolne,

I have attached a winning solution to Play del Sol.  I had four mines going and two factories.  I wish I remembered a timeline for construction.  All I do remember is that I did not wait to get construction going on that first factory.  I did not have power until later in the scenario, but I had it long enough to get those condos and high-class homes built, and to power the mining machinery.  It seems to be easier with the addition of the condo, I think.  Playa del Sol has been one of my favorite scenarios because of the goal and the small size of the island.

Thanks DaveISA - you've inspired me to try P del S again but it'll have to wait until after the Comptn!

Pee Wee - I'm not convinced that Gold Isla (Poppy in Goldrausch) is Golden Isle which comes from Tangerine as does Golden Sands (have you got that?).  I thought all Bethany's original list were English maps and this is in German - can you provide a translation at least of the games objectives - my German is so poor I'm only (fairly) certain of two of them.

I've now updated the full list  and I'll post as a separate entry.

O/K a zip for all the 137 scenarios in English (but incl 1 Italian and 1 German as available here) follows. I can include in full but it's a lot of space and it isn't in nice columns like the zip.

I'm short of seven (eight?) if anyones got them -
Golden Sands (and Golden Isle?)
Independence
San Felipe
Somero
Tierra de Sol
Tin Tin Island
Tropico de Cuba
Any others I can supply or tell you where to get them

For more info on the Column contents go to the first post which is still (more or less) correct.
