I cannot win the Ecotrop scenario and would really appreciate some help. I'm never had such a problem winning a scenario.

I've put the hotels next to the archaelogical dig and included a nature preserve.  My island rating is very high with almost no pollution. I have all houses and no tenements or apartments--just an occasional bunker far away from any tourist view. I reforest and landscape. I have tried to keep the hotels sheltered from the living environment, but I had to include some housing nearby because naturally the hotel workers would quit if they had miles to walk.

I issue the geographical package edict later in the game, and issue the non-littering edict early on.

I can't get more than half ecotourists in a hotel--and usually its more like a fourth. I tried all bungalows once and that didn't help much either.

Political stability has not been a problem at all so that's not affected my game.

Any winners of this scenario have some advice? I'm really p.o.'ed at this game and my inability to win it!!!

C'mon, no one going to resond? What happened to all the Tropico experts? Where's your bragging spirit? Here's your chance to brag AND tell someone--me--what she did wrong. What more could you ask for?

Sheesh! Wink

Mountaineers do it for Tropico

Well I'm like you - I cant get anywhere with this so cant help - I do remember there was a large post about eco tourists somewhere here a few months back so if you search around you might find some hints.  They didn't help me though!!  So far as I can remember you're following the right strategy - no night clubs etc only look outs, beach sites, pools but dont take any notice of me cos I'm hopeless!

If you get to complete it do post to tell us how!

I don't know that scenario since I've played almost no pre-made scenarios at all.

I assume that the objective is to get a large number of ecotourists to the island and, preferably, not many tourists of other types. Correct?

Then I'd guess the way to go is to have as many nature type facilities as possible while minimising the other.

Nature preserve, Conservatory, Scenic view, Arcaeological dig should all help you.

Beach, pool, spa, restaurant, pub, etc. draw other types of tourists.

Cheers

I tried the scenario last night.
No success. Sad
Huge financial problems, especially to get money to the Swiss account, and difficulty to get more than about 20% ecotourists (as percentage of all tourists).

When it ended I had about six (6) ecotourists on the island (of the 80 demanded) and less than 30,000$ in Switzerland (of the 100,000$ demanded).
Environment rating was 92 though! Smiley

Cheers

Eco-tourists are a subset of rich tourists, so in addition to building your bank account you want to do everything possible to encourage rich tourists to visit, and minimize the slobs. Normally this would include a 1st-class-only airport, but if I recall correctly this island is pretty mountainous (? -- it's been a while now).

Hope this helps...

I managed to get through this after about 15-20 attempts. The hardest scenario I've tried. I don't remember excactly how I did it, but I remember that I let the Texans drill for oil and I bribed the inspector. Didn't have to worry about the environment after that. Started out with coffee palntations and a cannery. Only put up the free hotel in the beginning. Built up my economy on other industries. Didn't put in to much entertainment because the tourists went to pubs and nightclubs instead of being eco-tourists. I think I had over 150 tourists in the island in the end and still I had to replay the last year twice to get to 60 eco-tourist instead of 59. Hope that helps.

Someone call for a economic/tourism expert? You got one  Grin (Okay enough boasting for me)

There is no specific way to get eco-tourist. There can only be a differnce of rich and poor tourists. Slobs/Springbreakers and Rich/Eco-tourists.

If you want eco-tourists, my advice is that you build medium hotels or luxury hotels. Medium hotels would be preferable as they do not require electricity until later in the game then you can upgrade to luxury hotels.

When tourists come to your island, what determines what type of tourists that come depends on a percentage. Either you have groups A, the poor ones or group B the rich ones. To attract the groups is very simple, hotel differnce, attraction prices. To change the type of people e.g. rich/eco then you have to issue edicts such as the geographical project.

The game works in percentages so only a certain percentage of the goup B would be eco-tourists and issuing edicts can alter that percentage.

Example
I have 200 tourists. 40% of them are eco- tourists, that is 80 tourists. The other 60% are rich ones, that is 120 tourists. If my target of eco- tourists is 400, this means i need 1000 tourists. Are you with me? So the trick is to just keep on expanding but at the same time you have to manage your population. I once played a game where 70% of my population was working in the tourism industry, the others farming.

If ya need more help, just look up at the older threads, one of them written by me about how you can jump start the economy with tourism and earn $5000 in profits by the end of the first year.Quite a masterpiece that one was if i do say so myself Smiley
