Best Name: Infernal Demon (it lasted 30 years on my map, then Morgan got captured and it promptly sank after having plundered $30K on that cruise)
Worst: Giggling Girl (renamed it to the Terrible Terror)

My coolest name for a ship was the Iron Castle for a galleon. I think it was cursed by an angry sea monster though because I sent it on a cruise and it never came back. So I built a new galleon named Iron Castle II and it sank to the bottom of the pond. I went through Iron Castle III, IV, and V before I believed that this was really true.

Normally I always name my ships...Dragon Breath, Dragon Scale, Iron Dragon, Steel Dragon, Blue Dragon, Fire Dragon, Ice Dragon, and one frigate christened the Murky Depth.
You should know not to name a ship after a ship that's sunk, it's bad luck!

It's fun to charter an accountant
And sail the wide accountancy,
To find, explore the funds offshore
And skirt the shoals of bankruptcy!

It can be manly in insurance.
We'll up your premium semi-annually.
It's all tax deductible.
We're fairly incorruptible,
We're sailing on the wide accountancy!

I record all my ship names before changing them to something that tells me the ship type (a Sea Scrouge idea).

These four names came up on four sucessive ship builds:

Lost Baby
Giggling Baby
Surprising Treasure
Giggling Shark

None of these strike me as a suitable name for a pirate ship...maybe a name for an captive worker at the wench house... but not a pirate ship.

I usually hate the names the ships first come with, so I always change them.  I change the names of buildings as I please.  But some buildings, like inns, I have a name that I use over and over in every game.  I usually have only one inn on the island, so I need not worry about coming up with a different name for multiple inns.

Inn - The Dead Parrot Inn (from Quest for Glory V)

Now onto ship names:

Snow - Scout
Schooner - Faithful Scout or Swift Wind
Sloop - Battle Dog
Brig - Scout (I know, I use that name for Snows.  But I so rarely build these underarmed ships that I don't really care what their name is, that is, unless the original name really stinks.  If I do build this class of ship, I use it for raids and long-range scouting missions.)
Frigate - Freedom's Light, Outlaw Star (from the anime show "Outlaw Star"  Grin), Battle Flag, or Pirate Moon.
Galleon - Geomancer, Rememberance (if I had a beloved ship sunk), or Arch Angel.

Like Silent_Bob, I use "The Revenge", but only on Frigates. Blackbeard had a ship named "The Queen Anne's Revenge". You can pretty much substitute anyone's name with "Revenge" and have one in keeping with the spirit of the era. ("Severous's Revenge",  "The Clever Duck's Revenge", "Strongblade's Revenge") I like "The Skipjack" for schooners (or Snows), [insert Captain's name+] -"Scourge", -"Fancy", -"Luck" for Brigs, "The Sea Lion", "The White Shark" or "The Sea Wolf" for Frigates and "The Victory" or "The Leviathan" for Galleons. I do not build Galleons often-bigger is not better in this game-Frigates are the way to go if you want large hauls. I actually had Charlotte de Berry bring back 34,000+ and a dozen captives back one time-several of them skilled workers- all on a Frigate called "The Revenge". I suppose that is the best I've ever done on a single ship-I DO recall that it was in a zone with a French and a Spanish trade route that had been explored. No one was more surprised to see the ship actually come back than I.... Smiley Wink Grin
